    Portfolio Manager

    Job Summary

    • The Portfolio Manager is responsible for constructing, managing, and optimising investment portfolios on behalf of individual, institutional, and corporate clients.
    • The role involves developing and implementing investment strategies aligned with each client's financial objectives, risk tolerance, and time horizon; monitoring portfolio performance against benchmarks; and making informed asset allocation decisions across equities, fixed income, money market instruments, and alternative investments.
    • The Portfolio Manager plays a critical role in delivering superior risk-adjusted returns while maintaining strict regulatory compliance.

    Key Responsibilities
    Portfolio Construction & Asset Allocation:

    • Construct and manage diversified investment portfolios tailored to each client's investment policy statement (IPS), risk profile, and return objectives.
    • Develop strategic and tactical asset allocation frameworks across equities, fixed income, money market, real assets, and alternative investments.
    • Conduct rigorous security selection using fundamental, quantitative, and technical analysis methodologies.
    • Rebalance portfolios periodically to maintain target asset allocation and respond to market conditions or changes in client mandates.
    • Optimise portfolio construction using Modern Portfolio Theory (MPT), risk-parity, and factor-based investing frameworks.

    Investment Strategy & Research Integration:

    • Develop and implement top-down macroeconomic and bottom-up fundamental investment strategies informed by in-house and third-party research.
    • Collaborate with the Research & Development Manager to integrate economic forecasts, sector analyses, and thematic investment views into portfolio decisions.
    • Monitor global and domestic market trends, monetary policy developments, and geopolitical events that may impact portfolio positioning.
    • Identify investment opportunities across listed equities, Eurobonds, FGN bonds, T-bills, commercial papers, and other instruments.

    Performance Monitoring & Reporting:

    • Monitor portfolio performance against agreed benchmarks (e.g., NGX ASI, JP Morgan EMBI, 91-day T-bill rate) on a daily, monthly, and quarterly basis.
    • Prepare detailed portfolio performance reports, attribution analyses, and investment commentaries for clients and senior management.
    • Present portfolio reviews to clients, explaining performance drivers, market outlook, and recommended strategy adjustments.

    Risk Management:

    • Identify, assess, and mitigate investment risks including market risk, credit risk, liquidity risk, and concentration risk within managed portfolios.
    • Ensure all portfolios operate within defined risk parameters, investment guidelines, and regulatory limits at all times.
    • Implement hedging strategies and use derivatives where appropriate and permitted under client mandates.
    • Stress test portfolios against adverse market scenarios and report findings to the CIO and Risk Committee.

    Client Relationship & Mandate Management:

    • Manage client relationships proactively, conducting regular portfolio review meetings and investment update calls.
    • Onboard new institutional and high-net-worth clients, drafting and agreeing investment policy statements and discretionary management mandates.
    • Provide timely responses to client queries and ensure all reporting obligations are met within agreed deadlines.
    • Identify opportunities to grow assets under management (AUM) through deepened client relationships and new mandates.

    Regulatory Compliance:

    • Ensure all investment activities comply with SEC Rules, ISA 2007, CBN guidelines, and the firm's investment management policies.
    • Prepare and submit required regulatory filings, fund reports, and compliance declarations within stipulated timelines.
    • Ensure proper disclosure, suitability assessment, and best execution standards are maintained for all client mandates.

    Key Performance Indicators

    • Client retention rate and satisfaction scores across managed mandates.
    • Portfolio risk adherence — zero breaches of investment policy statement guidelines.
    • Timeliness and quality of portfolio reports and client presentations.
    • Regulatory compliance rating — zero SEC sanctions or reportable violations.
    • New mandates won — number and value of new client portfolios onboarded per year.

    Requirements
    Educational Qualifications and Experience:

    • B.Sc. in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or related discipline. MBA or M.Sc. in Finance / Investment Management is an advantage.
    • Minimum of 6 years' experience in investment management, portfolio management, or asset management, with a demonstrable track record of managing client portfolios.

    Certifications:

    • CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) designation is strongly preferred. CAIA, FRM, or CISI qualifications are an added advantage. SEC Fund Manager Registration required.

    Technical Skills:

    • Proficiency in portfolio management systems, Excel modelling, and reporting tools.

    Research & Development Manager

    Job Summary

    • The Research & Development Manager leads the firm's investment research function, delivering high-quality macroeconomic analysis, equity research, fixed income coverage, and sector intelligence to support investment decision-making across portfolio management, stockbroking, and business development teams.
    • The role also drives product development initiatives — identifying and structuring new investment products, funds, and financial solutions that meet evolving client needs and market opportunities. The R&D Manager is the intellectual engine of the investment division, translating market data and research insights into actionable strategies and competitive offerings.

    Key Responsibilities
    Investment Research & Market Analysis:

    • Lead the production of high-quality, timely research reports, including equity research notes, fixed income analyses, macroeconomic outlooks, and sector reports.
    • Conduct in-depth fundamental and quantitative analysis of listed equities, bonds, money market instruments, and alternative assets.
    • Develop and maintain financial models, including DCF valuations, comparative analyses, dividend discount models, and earnings forecasts for covered companies.
    • Monitor and interpret macroeconomic indicators — GDP, inflation, MPR, exchange rates, fiscal policy — and assess their implications for markets and portfolios.
    • Track regulatory developments, corporate actions, earnings releases, and market-moving events and communicate their investment implications promptly.

    Research Output & Publication:

    • Maintain a research calendar and ensure the team delivers coverage on all priority sectors, companies, and macroeconomic themes on schedule.
    • Present research findings and investment views at client meetings, investor forums, and internal investment committee sessions.

    Product Development & Innovation:

    • Identify gaps in the firm's product offerings and develop proposals for new investment products, including collective investment schemes, structured notes, managed funds, and thematic portfolios.
    • Conduct feasibility analyses and market sizing studies for proposed products, assessing demand, competitive landscape, and potential returns.
    • Lead the end-to-end development of new products from concept design through regulatory approval, structuring, and commercial launch.
    • Collaborate with the legal, compliance, and operations teams to ensure new products are structured in line with SEC regulations and the firm's risk appetite.
    • Monitor post-launch product performance and recommend enhancements or product modifications based on market feedback and performance data.

    Qualifications & Experience

    Education:

    Experience:

    • Minimum of 7–10 years' experience in investment research, equity analysis, or financial markets, with at least 3 years in a research leadership or senior analyst role.

    Certifications:

    • CFA designation is strongly preferred. FRM, CAIA, or equivalent research/investment qualifications are an added advantage.

    Technical Skills:

    • Advanced proficiency in Bloomberg Terminal, financial modelling (Excel/VBA), statistical tools (R, Python, or SPSS), and presentation/reporting software.

    Stockbroker

    • The Stockbroker is responsible for executing securities transactions on behalf of the firm and its clients on the Nigerian Exchange Group (NGX) and other authorised trading platforms.
    • The role involves managing client trading accounts, providing investment recommendations, monitoring market movements, and ensuring full compliance with Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) regulations and NGX Rules.
    • The Stockbroker serves as a trusted intermediary between clients and capital markets, delivering value through timely trade execution, accurate reporting, and sound market intelligence.

    Key Responsibilities
    Securities Trading & Order Execution:

    • Execute buy and sell orders for equities, bonds, ETFs, and other listed securities on behalf of clients through the NGX trading system.

    Technical Skills:

    • Proficiency in NGX trading terminals (X-Gen / XETS), Bloomberg or Reuters terminals, Microsoft Office Suite, and portfolio management tools.
