    News / Features Editor

    Job Description

    • We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated News/Features Editor to oversee, research, write, edit, and publish news stories and feature articles on our news platform, The Journal Nigeria.
    • The ideal candidate should have a strong grasp of journalistic principles and editorial processes and the ability to manage a team of writers while ensuring accuracy, relevance, and timeliness in reporting.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Oversee the creation and publication of news stories and feature articles.
    • Ensure all content aligns with the publication’s editorial policies and target audience.
    • Manage and guide a team of reporters, writers and contributors.
    • Plan and coordinate editorial meetings to brainstorm, assign and review stories.
    • Edit and fact-checked articles to ensure accuracy, clarity, and adherence to ethical journalism.
    • Research and identify current news trends, breaking stories and feature ideas.
    • Uphold journalistic integrity, copyright laws and press regulations.

    Education & Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Mass Communication, English, or a related field.
    • A Master’s degree or professional certification in journalism/media studies is a plus.

    • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
    • Excellent news judgment and ability to identify compelling stories.
    • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
    • Leadership and team management capabilities.

    Experience:

    • Minimum of 7 years of experience in journalism, editorial management, or news reporting.
    • Previous experience in a newsroom or media organization.
    • Proven track record of writing and editing high-quality news and feature articles.
