    National Consultant, Rapid Market Assessment for Girls’ Skills Development and Economic Empowerment in Katsina State

    Terms of Reference

    Specifically, the consultancy will deliver practical, evidence-based recommendations to:

    • Identify priority sectors and livelihood pathways that are accessible, safe, and socially acceptable for adolescent girls
    • Align Skills4Girls training interventions with local labour market demand
    • Address structural and gender-based barriers to girls’ participation in education, training, and employment
    • Inform the design of context-sensitive and scalable interventions that strengthen employability, entrepreneurship, and financial inclusion.

    Minimum Requirements
    Education:  

    • Master`s Degree in one of the following fields: An Advanced University Degree in Economics, Statistics, Education, Gender and Development, or other fields.

    Work Experience:

    • Minimum eight years of experience in economics, labour market research, skills development, or girls’ and women’s economic empowerment programming
    • Demonstrated experience conducting qualitative and quantitative research
    • Experience working on adolescent and youth-related programming

    Skills: 

    • Strong expertise in gender and social inclusion analysis
    • Knowledge of Nigeria’s labour market, education and skills development systems, and policy environment
    • Strong analytical and report-writing skills
    • Experience working with UN agencies or development partners
    • Ability to engage with government stakeholders.

    Language Requirements:

    • Fluent in English
    • Knowledge of Hausa
    • Desirables:
    • Experience working in northern Nigeria
    • Familiarity with UNICEF programmes and systems.

    Driver

    About the Job

    • As a Driver you will provide reliable and safe driving services while ensuring compliance with local traffic rules and UNICEF protocols.
    • You will be expected to demonstrate the highest standards of professionalism, discretion, integrity, adaptability and protocol awareness.
    • You will also be expected to support administrative tasks and engage in self-directed learning during non-driving periods.
    • As a driver you will demonstrate  a client-oriented approach, courtesy, tact, a high sense of responsibility, and the ability to work effectively with people of diverse national and cultural backgrounds.
    • Safe and Reliable Driving Services 
    • Routine Vehicle Care, Maintenance and Readiness
    • Use of Digital Tools and Tracking Systems
    • Trip Documentation and Reporting 
    • Communication and Emergency Readiness
    • Support Office Operations During Idle Periods.

    Minimum Requirements

    • Education: A secondary education and a valid driver`s license is required.
    • Work Experience: Minimum of two years of professional driving experience in an international organization, embassy or UN system with a safe driving record is required.
    • Skills: Knowledge of the local driving rules and regulations, local context, vehicle maintenance, GPS navigation or VHF radio is required.
    • Language Requirements : Proficiency in English and basic Hausa is required.

    Desirables:

    • Language: Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.
    • Experience working in emergency response, international organizations or embassies, with protocol awareness, and airport reception of guests is an asset. 
    • Relevant experience at country level, particularly in development, fragile settings and humanitarian contexts is an asset.
