    Digital Communications Officer

    Job Summary:

    • The Digital Communications Officer will support the Communications & Media Relations team in social media management, content development, research, writing, creative storytelling and more. In this role, you will play a critical role in refining and elevating MOWAA’s profile both locally and globally. This role requires a keen eye for storytelling on digital platforms including but not limited to social media, strong and precise writing and copyediting skills, creativity and an understanding of project workflows. The ideal candidate should have a strong interest in West African arts, history, and culture and be eager to carry out in-depth research on various topics as part of MOWAA’s broader content strategy. Genuine engagement and investment in this area are essential.

    Responsibilities

    Social Media Management & Content Creation

    • Manage MOWAA’s social media platforms (Instagram, X, LinkedIn, Facebook, YouTube), ensuring consistent and engaging content.
    • Plan, develop, and schedule content aligned with MOWAA’s voice, brand, and objectives.
    • Monitor social media trends and innovative ideas in the arts and culture sector and advise on new formats and best practices.
    • Create and edit short-form video and visual content tailored for digital platforms.
    • Source, edit, and coordinate images, videos, and multimedia assets for digital campaigns.
    • Monitor analytics and produce reports with insights and recommendations to improve engagement.

    Content Development & Writing

    • Research and write engaging, audience-appropriate copy for social media captions, blogs, newsletters, and website updates.
    • Translate complex research, curatorial, and programme information into accessible and engaging digital content.
    • Develop creative storytelling ideas to amplify MOWAA’s exhibitions, collections, archaeological projects, and education initiatives.
    • Work closely with development, curatorial, education, programmes, and community engagement teams to uncover content opportunities.
    • Attend and provide on-the-ground content coverage of events, activations, and key moments in Benin City.

    Video Production & Storytelling

    • Conceptualize and develop ideas for video content that align with MOWAA’s mission, programmes, and exhibitions.
    • Collaborate with videographers, photographers, and editors to produce high-quality video content for digital platforms.
    • Develop key messaging, scripts, and narratives that reflect MOWAA’s voice and strategic objectives.
    • Oversee video projects from ideation and storyboarding to final delivery, ensuring alignment with brand guidelines and audience engagement goals.

    Digital Strategy & Analytics

    • Support the implementation of MOWAA’s digital communications strategy to grow audience engagement and visibility.
    • Track digital campaign performance and audience metrics across channels, and provide actionable insights to improve content and platform performance.
    • Ensure content is optimized for search engines (SEO) and platform algorithms.

    Skills & Professional Development

    • Stay updated on global digital communication trends, tools, and best practices, particularly in arts and culture.
    • Contribute ideas and creative concepts to enhance MOWAA’s storytelling and digital footprint.

    Qualifications

    Education

    • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Languages, Humanities or any related field.

    Experience

    • Minimum of four years of professional experience in digital communications, social media management, content creation, or a similar role. We are open to candidates within the range of 4-8 years of experience.
    • Proven experience managing social media platforms (Instagram, LinkedIn, X, Facebook) and growing engagement.
    • Demonstrated ability to conceptualize and develop creative content
    • Experience working with videographers, editors, and creatives to produce multimedia content.
    • Experience writing and editing digital content for diverse audiences, including general public, partners, and donors.
    • Familiarity with web content management systems (CMS), email marketing tools, and social media scheduling platforms.
    • Track record of delivering digital campaigns and measuring impact using analytics tools.

    Essential Skills

    • Exceptional writing and editing skills with attention to detail, accuracy and tone.
    • Strong conceptual and visual storytelling skills, including experience creating storyboards and messaging.
    • Ability to simplify complex information into engaging content for digital platforms.
    • Solid understanding of digital trends, social media algorithms, and audience engagement strategies
    • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
    • Collaborative mindset with the ability to work across departments and with external creatives.

    Nice-to-haves

    • Understanding of West African arts, heritage, and global arts and culture conversations.
    • Basic video editing skills (i.e. Capcut, iMovie, TikTok) and familiarity with production workflows.

    Video & Digital Media Associate

    Job Summary:

    • The Video & Digital Media Associate will be responsible for producing high-quality video and photo content that elevates MOWAA’s storytelling across platforms. This role demands strong technical expertise in video production, photography, and editing—capturing compelling footage, executing creative shots, and developing narratives that bring MOWAA’s work to life. Reporting to the Head of Communications & Media Relations, the associate will manage end-to-end production, from filming to editing, while ensuring alignment with MOWAA’s brand and messaging. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, flexible, and comfortable travelling for shoots, often working independently on-site.

    Responsibilities

    Video Production & Photography

    • Lead the planning, storyboarding, and execution of video and photo shoots to support MOWAA’s storytelling, campaigns, exhibitions, and events.
    • Capture high-quality video footage in cinematic, documentary, and editorial styles, as outlined in creative briefs
    • Manage and maintenance of MOWAA video and photography equipment, as well as be responsible for any equipment leasing.
    • Work closely with external video and photography consultants or agencies, ensuring oversight and delivery.
    • Record interviews, b-roll, and event coverage with attention to sound, lighting, and visual narrative.
    • Operate cameras, audio equipment, lighting kits, and other production tools during shoots.
    • Manage and organize visual assets, footage, and archives for easy retrieval and future use.
    • Develop shot lists and schedules in advance of production.
    • Edit and retouch photography for publications, social media, and digital platforms.

    Editing & Post-Production

    • Edit video content into polished, engaging final products for multiple platforms, including social media, website, presentations, and exhibitions, under the guidance of the Head of Communications & Media Relations.
    • Select music, sound effects, and graphics to enhance storytelling while maintaining brand identity.
    • Ensure all content is optimized for web and social media distribution, with attention to platform-specific formatting.

    Digital Content Production

    • Support the production of multimedia content for newsletters, donor reports, social media, website, and exhibitions.
    • Repurpose video and photography content for multiple uses, including short-form social clips and long-form storytelling.
    • Monitor digital trends and recommend new visual content formats and styles to enhance MOWAA’s digital presence.

    Project & Asset Management

    • Manage production timelines and deliverables for multimedia projects.
    • Ensure proper cataloguing, archiving, and maintenance of video and photo assets.
    • Source and manage external vendors (videographers, editors, photographers) when needed.

    Qualifications

    Education

    • Bachelor’s degree or Diploma

    Experience

    • Ideally 3–5 years of relevant experience in video production, photography, and digital storytelling
    • Proven experience filming, photographing, and editing content for different platforms, including social media and websites.
    • Hands-on experience operating professional video and photography equipment, including cameras, audio equipment, and lighting setups.
    • Skilled in producing creative shots, including interviews, documentary-style footage, and event coverage.
    • Experience editing video and photo content using industry-standard software (Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, Lightroom, Photoshop, or similar).
    • Track record of conceptualizing, storyboarding, scripting, and managing video shoots independently and/or with creative teams.
    • Experience working within arts, culture, heritage, or creative industries is an advantage but not essential.

    Head of Operations

    • The Head of Operations will oversee the efficient management of the museum’s facilities, utilities, and security while also supporting event logistics and travel coordination. This role is essential to ensure the seamless functioning of the museum’s physical and operational infrastructure, and to maintain a safe, efficient, and well-managed environment for staff, visitors, and collections.

    Key Responsibilities

    Facilities & Utilities Management

    • Oversee the maintenance and functionality of museum buildings, conservation labs, exhibition spaces, and office areas.
    • Manage utility services, including electricity, water, and HVAC systems, ensuring efficiency and sustainability.
    • Establish and oversee maintenance protocols with MEP suppliers, ensuring all servicing equipment is up to date.
    • Coordinate with the collections management team to regulate climatic controls and generate facility reports in adherence to object care regimes and loan agreements.
    • Ensure compliance with safety, health, and operational standards.

    Security, Safety & Risk Management

    • Supervise security teams and implement protocols to protect assets, staff, and visitors.
    • Develop emergency preparedness plans, including evacuation and disaster response procedures.
    • Conduct risk assessments and ensure adherence to regulatory compliance.
    • Review and select appropriate building insurance providers to ensure adequate coverage for facilities and assets.

    Vendor & Contractor Management

    • Manage contracts and relationships with service providers, including facility maintenance, cleaning, and security firms.
    • Negotiate service agreements to ensure cost-effectiveness and quality.
    • Monitor contractor performance and enforce institutional standards.
    • Compliance, Budget Oversight & Staff Training
    • Ensure all operations align with regulatory and legal requirements.
    • Manage operational budgets, optimize resource allocation, and improve cost efficiency.
    • Oversee procurement processes and asset management.
    • Develop and enforce building management standards and procedures, including training staff on best practices, with support from the HR team

    Key Qualifications

    • A bachelor’s or postgraduate degree in Engineering, Facility Management, Business Administration, Operations Management, or a related field.
    • Minimum of 10 years of experience in facility management and/or operations, preferably within a cultural institution, university, corporate services or hospitality sector.
    • Strong leadership and problem-solving skills with experience managing teams and external vendors.
    • Good knowledge of health, safety, and security protocols.
    • Excellent vendor negotiation and contractor management skills.
    • Excellent organizational and communication skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities.
    • Ability to work collaboratively across departments and engage with diverse stakeholders.
