    Program / Department Summary

    • With the insurgency affecting North East Nigeria and displacing millions of people, Mercy Corps is expanding its humanitarian programming to support the conflict-affected population.
    • As a result of the wide-scale needs, Mercy Corps is scaling-up food security, non-food items, nutrition, protection, livelihoods, and water sanitation hygiene (WASH) activities in Dikwa, Ngala, Damboa, Gwoza, Bama and Jere Local Government Areas in Borno State to address emergency needs.

    General Position Summary

    • The cook must perform all duties related to the preparation of meals for Mercy Corps staff.  Maintaining a high level of hygiene in the kitchen and in food preparation is of utmost importance

    Essential Job Functions
    Program Management:

    • Cooking:
      • Prepare and updates food menu based on request by Mercy corps staff.
      • Prepare and serve daily meals as required.
      • Control stock of food and replenish the ones needed on time.
      • Prepare shopping list and make purchases conscientiously.
      • Keep summary of expenses and retire all balance at the end of every shopping.
      • Set table before every meal and clean up table after each meal.
      • Have food ready on the right time daily.
      • Follow always all hygienic rules before, during and after cooking.
    • Cleanliness:
      • Wash dishes after each meal.
      • Clean cooker, fridge, cupboards and other kitchen items on a regular basis.
      • Assure cleanliness of kitchen and dining room.
      • Remove glasses and cups from all room ensure that there are always clean ones available.
      • Assist in any cleaning and household work, as required.
    • Reporting:
      • Ensure that line manager is informed of any problems that might be linked to the house as well as problematic kitchen items (e. g. broken, missing).
      • Ensure that no item is taken out of the kitchen without prior authorization.
    • Other Duties:
      • Replace empty dispenser bottle on the water dispenser machine.
      • Clean water filters for portable water on a regular basis and change them whenever necessary.
      • Ensure together with Admin officer/Assistant that all supplies related to cooking in the guest house are available on time i.e. matches, gas, cleaning items, etc.
      • Keep an inventory of all kitchen utensils, plates, glasses, cutlery, cookware, etc and report items missing or needing repairs to Admin Officer / Assistant.
      • Ensure that there is tea, coffee, milk and sugar available in the kitchen.
      • Know how to use fire extinguisher and fire blanket and where they are located.
      • Be available to help the Admin Officer / Assistant to organize parties and meetings.
      • Assist the Administration Officer/Assistant to organize parties and meetings and guests.
      • Conduct himself / herself both professionally and personally in such a manner as to bring credit to Mercy Corps and to not jeopardize its humanitarian mission.

    Security:

    • Ensure compliance with security procedures and policies as determined by country leadership.
    • Proactively ensure that team members operate in a secure environment and are aware of policies.

    Organizational Learning:

    • As part of our commitment to organizational learning and in support of our understanding that learning organizations are more effective, efficient and relevant to the communities they serve, we expect all team members to commit 5% of their time to learning activities that benefit Mercy Corps as well as themselves.

    Head Driver

    Program / Department Summary

    • The Head Driver will work within the Logistics department of Operational Support structure, committed to provide reliable and compliant support to program activities in order to achieve efficient service to program beneficiaries.

    General Position Summary

    • The Head Driver will provide safe, transport services for MC program and support staff in the described Area of Responsibility (AOR).
    • The Head Driver will adhere to all traffic and MC safety rules and follow the transport guidelines required by the MC transport department. In addition to these duties the head driver manages the safety of all assigned vehicles and keeps proper records of vehicles related documentation.

    Essential Job Functions
    Procurement:

    • General management of agency vehicles in co-operation with the Logistics Officer.
    • Ensure that all vehicles are safe and road-worthy.
    • Collecting and distributing of vehicle log-sheets to drivers; responsible for monthly compilation and submission of log-sheets.
    • Schedule vehicle use to meet programmatic and operational needs.
    • Ensure trip tickets are used by program staff and approved by necessary persons.
    • Maintain vehicle board daily.
    • Oversee and ensure proper use of the vehicles.
    • Oversee fuel consumption purchase and tracking including coordination with gas station(s).
    • Organize cleaning of vehicles.
    • Organize regular service schedules for vehicles. Maintain service schedule files.
    • Collect Vehicle Service Requests from drivers. Submit VSR-s to the Transport Manager for approval.
    • Ensure major repairs are done in a timely manner.
    • Collect and submit vehicle related receipts to the Transport Manager.
    • Coordinate with communications department to ensure regular vehicle communications.
    • Ensure security measures for vehicles such as parking, storage of keys, emergency supplies, etc.
    • In coordination with Security, organize levies as needed for field trips.
    • Ensure that security incident reports are completed and filed (if related to vehicles).
    • Ensure that accident reports are completed and filed.
    • Conduct himself / herself both professionally and personally in such a manner as to bring credit to Mercy Corps and to not jeopardize its humanitarian mission in country of operation.
    • Supervise Drivers with support from Logistics Officer, ensuring all duties are performed as per their PD
    • Vehicle allocation to staff including airport drop offs and pick-ups logistics.
    • Participate in recruitment of Drivers
    • Preparing monthly fuel consumption report for vehicles and generators.

    • Drivers, also responsible for the safety of MC vehicles and personnel when riding in vehicles. Responsible for upholding vehicle regulations / rules. Will report problems of passengers to supervisor.

    Accountability:

    A full report on vehicle activities will include at a minimum,

    • All collected Log-sheets
    • All collected receipts of vehicle expenses
    • Total number of serviceable vehicles.
    • Total number and type of vehicles off the road, including reason and estimated time to repair.
    • A balance of materials at the beginning of the period.
    • Distributions for the period.
    • Losses / anomalies for the period.
    • Balance of materials at the end of the period.
    • Distributions for the period should also match receipts on vehicle log-sheets for the same period. This data must also be available formatted by program and donor.
    • Works Directly with: Drivers and Logistics officer. Co-ordinates with Mercy Corps program and operations staff in the office / guesthouse

    Knowledge and Experience

    • Valid drivers’ license and extensive driving experience.
    • SSCE Certificate
    • Knowledge of the context of Borno State.
    • Clean record.
    • Good spoken English and writing skills
    • Thorough technical knowledge of 4 WD Vehicles, Toyota and Ford Makes.
    • Conscientious with an excellent sense of judgment.
    • Strong organizational skills.
    • Ability to work simultaneously on multiple tasks.
    • Willingness and ability to work effectively with a wide variety of people.
    • Ability to work as part of a team and coordinate with project personnel.
    • Computer literacy_ Knowledge of MS Office packages
    • Minimum of 3 years working experience with INGO.

    Cleaner

    • Maintain the cleanliness of the interior areas of the office and guesthouses including rooms and villas, kitchen facilities, common areas and bathrooms; sweeping, dusting, washing, garbage disposal, etc.
    • Maintain the cleanliness of the exterior areas of the offices and guesthouses including sweeping, watering of the plants, gardening, garbage disposal, etc.
    • Do the laundry of office and guesthouses (clothes, curtains, sheets, towels, etc.).
    • Identify needed repairs in the office, guesthouse and premises and alert Operations Assistant (or designee) for action.
    • Assist the cook in preparing and serving meals as required.
    • Ensure adequate supply of drinking water, cleaning materials are maintained all the time.
    • Assist the Operations team in all other office or guesthouse related activities as required.
    • Be available to help the Operations team to organize and plan for meetings and gatherings.
    • Conduct himself/herself both professionally and personally in such a manner as to bring credit to Mercy Corps and to not jeopardize its humanitarian mission.

    Hygiene:

    • Personal Hygiene: all staff working in the office or guesthouse must have very clean hands and nails. Wash hands thoroughly with soap before doing any work. All working clothes used must be clean.
    • Kitchen Hygiene: all working surfaces must be kept clean and tidy at all times and floors must be cleaned daily.

    Security:

    • Ensure compliance with security procedures and policies as determined by country leadership.
    • Proactively ensure that team members operate in a secure environment and are aware of policies.
