    Immunization Advisor

    Overview

    • The Immunization Advisor will provide technical leadership and support to Jhpiego Nigeria's immunization activities, focusing on strengthening routine immunization (RI) services, particularly for under-five children and tetanus toxoid (TT) or Tetanus with low dose diphtheria (TD) vaccination for pregnant women. The advisor will be responsible for leading the implementation of activities aimed at increasing immunization coverage, improving vaccine safety and quality, strengthening the cold chain system, and enhancing community engagement. They will work closely with the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), State Primary Health Care Development Agencies (SPHCDA), Local Government Health Authorities (LGA), and other relevant stakeholders to achieve program goals and objectives across Ebonyi, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi and Ondo States. This role requires a strong understanding of immunizationprograms, public health principles, and experience in implementing and managing large-scale health programs in Nigeria.

    Responsibilities

    Technical Leadership and Program Implementation:

    • Provide technical leadership in the design, planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of immunization activities in alignment with national immunization strategies and global best practices
    • Lead the implementation of strategies to increase immunization coverage for under-five children and TT or TD vaccination for pregnant women, addressing barriers and bottlenecks in access and utilization
    • Develop and implement innovative approaches to improve vaccine delivery, including outreach services, mobile vaccination clinics, and integration with other health services
    • Provide technical guidance on improving vaccine safety and quality, including adverse events following immunization (AEFI) surveillance and management
    • Lead the implementation of activities to strengthen the cold chain system, ensuring vaccines are stored and transported at appropriate temperatures
    • Support the development and implementation of training programs for healthcare workers on immunization protocols, vaccine management, and AEFI management
    • Collaborate with other technical advisors within Jhpiego particularly the Nutrition
    • Program Manager and QI Specialists and partner organizations to integrate immunization services with other health interventions.

    Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning:

    • Work with the Snr. Strategic Information Advisor to develop and implement a robust monitoring and evaluation (M&E) system to track progress towards program goals and objectives
    • Collect, analyze, and interpret immunization data to identify trends, challenges, and opportunities for improvement
    • Prepare regular progress reports, including data analysis and recommendations for action
    • Conduct routine field visits to monitor program implementation and provide technical assistance to healthcare workers
    • Utilize data to inform program adaptation and continuous quality improvement.

    Stakeholder Engagement & Coordination:

    • Work closely with the NPHCDA, SPHCDA, LGA, and other relevant stakeholders to coordinate immunization activities and ensure alignment with national priorities
    • Participate in national and state-level immunization meetings and technical working groups
    • Represent Jhpiego at relevant forums, Technical Working Groups and conferences
    • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders, including government officials, healthcare providers, community leaders, and partner organizations
    • Support community engagement activities to promote immunization uptake and address community concerns and misconceptions

    Capacity Building and Mentorship:

    • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to immunization officers/technical officers at the state/LGA level
    • Support the development of training materials and job aids for healthcare workers
    • Conduct on-the-job training and coaching to improve the skills and knowledge of healthcare workers
    • Facilitate knowledge sharing and best practices among healthcare facilities and LGAs

    Program Management and Reporting:

    • Contribute to the development of annual work plans and budgets
    • Manage program resources effectively and efficiently.
    • Prepare timely and accurate reports on program activities and achievements.
    • Ensure compliance with Jhpiego's policies and procedures
    • Participate in program-related meetings and workshops.

    Documentation and Dissemination:

    • Document best practices and lessons learned from program implementation
    • Prepare abstracts and presentations for conferences and workshops
    • Contribute to the development of publications and other knowledge products
    • Disseminate program findings and recommendations to relevant stakeholders.

    Required Qualifications

    • Medical Doctor (MD) or Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Public Health, or a related field with a Master's degree preferred
    • Minimum of 8 years of experience in implementing and managing immunization programs in Nigeria
    • Strong understanding of the Nigerian healthcare system and immunization policies and strategies
    • Experience working with the NPHCDA, SPHCDA, and LGA health authoritiesProven experience in developing and implementing training programs for healthcare workers
    • Experience in monitoring and evaluation of immunization programs, including data collection, analysis, and reporting
    • Strong knowledge of vaccine management, cold chain systems, and AEFI surveillance
    • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
    • Fluency in English and at least one major Nigerian language
    • Experience working with USAID or other international donors is an added advantage

    Monitoring and Evaluation Assistant

    Overview

    • The Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Assistant will support the Momentum Country and Global Leadership (MCGL), project on all strategic information (SI) related implementation including data management. S/he will provide technical assistance to the State Ministry of Health PRS/M&E department and M&E designated officers at the supported health facilities at state level. S/he will additionally support the Senior Strategic Information Adviser (SIA), the Nutrition officers, the Immunization Advisor and other colleagues to implement MNCH, Nutrition and Routine Immunization data analysis, use and dissemination. In addition, he/she will contribute to activities to improve capacity on triangulating data from multiple data sources to inform policy and decisionmaking.
    • S/he will contribute to data collection, visualization and data dissemination to enhancestate-led and nationally supported evidence-based programming for improved understanding of MNCH, Nutrition and Routine Immunization services.

    Responsibilities

    • The Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Assistant will support all Monitoring and Evaluation initiatives and data related activities of the project. Specifically, the M&E Assistant will work closely with the Snr SIA to coordinate the implementation of all activities in the MCGL workplan
    • The M&E Assistant will participate in conducting routine data quality validation/audit and provide regular feedbacks to improve the quality of data in all supported sites at the State level
    • S/he will support the Snr SIA in collecting, collating and reporting all data tracked by the programs in addition to ensuring state M&E officers report and upload all required data on the DHIS2 every month.
    • Work closely with the Snr SIA (MERL Advisor) in preparing PMP and responding to other M&E issues on all supported projects
    • The M&E Assistant will support the Snr SIA in proposing strategies to increase data use and demand amongst program staff and support the program staff on ways to properly organize and capture program progress and document lessons learned
    • S/he will assist the program staff in preparing sections of program reports that deal with monitoring and evaluation, and in the implementation of program assessments and evaluations
    • S/he will work closely with the Snr Strategic Information Adviser in collating and submitting monthly and quarterly data through the DHIS2
    • She/he will also support the state Team lead, Service/Quality Improvement Officers and Nutrition officers in data collection, collation, validation and capacity building of HCWs, Records officers, Nutrition officers, Health promotion officers and Immunization officers at State level
    • Perform other duties relating to the project assigned by the supervisor

    Required Qualifications

    •  Bachelor’s degree in Medical Sciences, Public Health, Demography and Statistics or equivalent in any discipline in the social sciences
    • At least 2 to 3 years’ post-NYSC working experience in the implementation and management of health Strategic Information systems (MNCH programming preferred)
    • Good computer skills using MS Excel, MS Access, SPSS and/or SAS and Epi-Info Windows
    • Attention to detail and accuracy in basic data management, analysis and reporting
    • Knowledge of electronic medical records systems and deployment of database systems for patient monitoring will be an added advantage
    • Cooperative, competent, hardworking, flexible and dependable in a multi-cultural, open office situation
    • Self-motivated and proactive with a positive attitude to work
    • Ability to organize and coordinate information and logistics for programs and activities

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Demonstrated ability to perform robust data extraction from internal and external information systems
    • Familiarity with Nigerian public health sector, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) is highly desirable
    • Demonstrated written, presentation, communication and organizational skills in English
    • Ability and willingness to travel within Nigeria

    RMNCAEH+N Quality of Care Capacity Building Trainer

    Overview

    • Nigeria continues to face high maternal and child mortality rates, with a maternal mortality ratio of 512 deaths per 100,000 live births, under-5 mortality at 132 per 1,000 live births, and neonatal mortality at 39 per 1,000 live births (NDHS 2018). Despite efforts, the NDHS 2013 and 2018 show minimal progress in reducing these rates. The 2019 Verbal and Social Autopsy Study (VASA) revealed that neonatal deaths account for 30% of under-5 mortality, primarily due to sepsis, intrapartum injuries, and pneumonia most occurring within the first seven days of life.
    • Poor quality of care remains a significant contributor to preventable maternal, neonatal, and child deaths. In response, the MCGL project, in collaboration with the State Ministry of Health (FMoH), aims to strengthen the capacity of selected states in implementing Quality of Care (QoC) strategies. This includes establishing and supporting State Quality Improvement (QI) teams at health facility levels.

    Purpose of Assignment

    • To support the State Ministries of Health in building the capacity of five implementing States, Kano, Kastina, Kebbi, Ondo, and Ebonyi. On the RMNCAEH+N Quality of Care strategy, thereby improving health outcomes for women, newborns, and children.

    Objectives

    • Build capacity of state teams on the RMNCAEH+N QoC strategy
    • Support the establishment and functionality of QoC structures at state and LGA levels
    • Promote data-driven decision-making and continuous quality improvement

    Responsibilities

    You will support the following activities in the six states:

    • Train state teams on RMNCAEH+N QoC strategies
    • Train teams on dashboard use
    • Establish and inaugurate QI teams
    • Review and align data collection tools with QoC documentation needs

    Expected Outcomes

    • All five states trained on RMNCAEH+N QoC strategy
    • Active participation in TWGs
    • Regular submission of QoC data from all states

    Required Qualifications

    Essential

    • Master’s degree (PhD is an added advantage)
    • Medical degree (MBBS, Nursing/Midwifery, Pharmacy) with MPH
    • Minimum 8 years of relevant experience
    • At least 7 years of consultancy experience with local/international organizations
    • Experience working with Federal and State Ministries of Health

    Desirable

    • Postgraduate degree in Obstetrics and Gynecology
    • Publications in maternal and newborn health, especially RMNCH QoC

    Knowledge and Skills

    • Proficiency in MS Office
    • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
    • Ability to work under pressure
    • Excellent written and spoken English
