    Nigeria Grain Aggregation Specialist (Commercialization)

    About the Role

    • We believe that linking our farmers to markets is one of the most important actions we can take to unlock profitability for our clients, promote the use of good agricultural practices and create employment within the value chain in general.
    • In your role as the market access Specialist, you will report to the Field Operations Lead and collaborate with other departments in designing, piloting, evaluating and scaling up projects aimed at improving access to markets and cash crops for farmers.
    • You will support strategy development of new services to sustainably improve our impact per farmer, while building a team, together with expertise and capabilities.

    Responsibilities
    Lead Strategy:

    • With support of the Field Operations Lead, you will gather evidence and develop a multi-year roadmap detailing the integration of new crops and interventions to target.
    • You will conduct primary and secondary research, data analysis on agronomy, value chains, market structures, potential fit within existing One Acre Fund activities for multiple crops and processed products
    • You will create recommendations on best bets and possible pathways, and set up feedback loops with country leadership and other internal important partners to ensure agreement
    • You will conduct background studies, operational and financial estimates and create an impact model for the proposed interventions.
    • You will collect data on grains, sales/volumes etc.to analyze markets and market opportunities, be knowledgeable about existing and potential market conditions.
    • You will implement a technological innovation for monitoring and evaluation of the commercialization processes.

    Lead Execution:

    • You will coordinate grain purchases from thousands of smallholder farmers across multiple states.
    • You will organize a seamless arrangement with off-takers to guarantee the smallholder farmers the best possible income and impact.
    • You will train farmers on proper post-harvest handling, grain quality standards, and warehouse systems process.
    • You will support other field operations' projects such as farmers' enrollment and compliance
    • You will design Indicators and ensure targets are met

    Relationship/Leadership:

    • You will manage relationships with important partners to the success of commercialization projects.
    • You will create strategy plans in collaboration with other departments, and gather feedback and build agreement from partners and field team members at all stages of the process
    • You will support leaders across One Acre Fund in preparing for commercialization, e.g. by writing talking points to farmers
    • You will coordinate with partners and buyers, such as the largest mobile money service provider in Nigeria, to ensure farmers are provided with the best service and opportunities
    • You will initiate and manage collaborative projects with external partners, which includes rafting MoUs, periodic reporting and ensuring OAF policies are followed in all communication
    • You may directly or indirectly manage staff and partners involved in projects, and the activities of the field staff involved in the market access projects.

    Qualifications
    Candidates who fit the following criteria are encouraged to apply:

    • Educational background; Bachelor's Degree in Agribusiness Management, Business Administration, Environmental Economics and any related field.
    • 4+ years of relevant work experience in a business setting involving sourcing, transformation and sales of agricultural produce.
    • Experience leading and accomplishing projects specifically in Market Facilitation will be an added advantage
    • Data analysis fluency.
    • Experience with design of multiple services targeting smallholder farmers
    • Passion for team building and collaboration with colleagues from diverse backgrounds and through multiple media including remote work.
    • A willingness to commit to living in remote location.

    Nigeria Rural Retail Operations Specialist

    About the Role

    • We are seeking a Strategy and Operations Specialist to work on several improvement projects related to the Rural Retail program, communications, operations, and overall strategy.
    • You will manage between 5-10 team members who will be responsible for individual districts and you will report directly to the Rural Retail Lead.

    Responsibilities

    • Manage the scouting process to ensure that top-quality new sites are found and secured for the placement of Shops in new locations.
    • Work with our Government Relations team to have the correct permits for operations issued.
    • Manage all lease agreements and relationships with landlords across the shop portfolio.
    • Manage contractors for shop set up and ensure all works are to the required quality standards;
    • Manage all One Acre Fund assets across the portfolio, develop and run sound systems;
    • Manage the implementation of inventory control systems at the shops;
    • Manage procurement requests from the team, including daily demands, and general set-up requirements;
    • Manage the records and payments for all staff employed on a short-term/casual basis.
    • Make program design recommendations and systems improvements;
    • Support data analysis needs across the department;
    • Work on short-term support projects as informed by the needs of the operation.

    Nigeria Country Director

    About the Role

    • The Country Director will directly manage all operations in Nigeria and grow the number of farmers we serve from about 120,000 in 2023 to over 1 million farmers by 2030. In addition to generating rapid growth in our existing programs, the Country Director will develop new opportunities for impact and revenue, while also having the Nigeria program break-even over time.
    • Our vision is to build a presence across the country, and to diversify our portfolio with new programs that help us serve as many farmers as possible in Nigeria in a financially sustainable way.
    • You will report to a Senior Director in the Growth Unit and liaise with top leaders across the organization.

    Responsibilities
    Build Vision and Oversee Operations to Serve 1 Million Farm Families by 2030:

    • You will work with senior leaders, both in-country and on global teams, to develop and refine a long-term vision for how we can serve over 1 million farmers across the country by 2030
    • You will rally the team behind that Vision to build support for the program. This would include a Vision document, long term financial model, and OKRs
    • You will oversee all field programs via a Deputy and hit annual targets
    • You will revise our strategies and operations to produce impact and financial results
    • You will specifically focus on financial sustainability and ensure that the country program breaks even in the next 5 years.
    • You will also identify near term and long-term risks which could affect our ability to achieve our goals. You will work with your deputies and other leaders to craft creative and thoughtful mitigation strategies.

    Develop and Scale Operational Foundation to Achieve Impact Goals:

    • You will manage all back-end Systems via a Deputy and oversee the development and deployment of new processes to lower costs and improve execution.
    • You will pay attention to Systems and Controls to ensure that the program is ready to grow rapidly in the coming years, with a much lower risk of leakage and fraud.
    • You will lead new investments in Tech to maximise our ability to expand our programs, improve our data quality, and simplify operations for staff.

    Develop a Strong Team of Leaders and Build Partnerships:

    • You will directly manage a team of 3-6 strong deputies who oversee Program execution, Systems, People, and Expansion. You will invest in the development of these key deputies and other rising leaders on the team.
    • You will build our recruitment capacity to find great people to fill open roles - the workforce will likely triple in size in the next few years.
    • You will prioritize investments in our team and culture, especially as we grow. You will oversee the creation of new development programs, cultivate a productive and positive working environment, and invest in deepening team cohesion.
    • You will also supervise our external relationships across the country. You will manage our Government/Partnership work streams and work with leaders across the team to strengthen our important strategic relationships.

    • 10+ years of dynamic professional experience, with considerable exposure to rural development
    • 7+ years experience managing senior staff
    • Experience producing results
    • Experience launching new investments or building successful partnerships
    • Vision and ability to identify opportunities and the right partners to take advantage of those

    People Development & Management:

    • Experience coaching other leaders
    • Great collaborator and team member who can engage with different people, from rural farmers to high-level executives
    • You will communicate with executives across One Acre Fund and with high-level leaders in other organisations

    Critical Thinking and Problem-Solving:

    • Capacity to both develop high-level strategies and work with others to develop detailed operational plans
    • Ability to drive towards results in a dynamic and fluid work context
    • Experience working with budgets and financial models
    • Comfort and experience using data to make decisions
    • Ability to identify risks and develop thoughtful mitigation strategies

    Other requirements:

    • University or Advanced Degree in relevant fields
    • Business English required
    • Ability to travel to Minna and other areas outside of Abuja up to 40% of the time

    Eligibility

    • One Acre Fund can support a work permit for this role. However, nationals of (or those with an extensive professional background and work history in) our countries of operation are preferred.
