    Health Promoter IEC Officer

    Main Purpose

    • Implement Health Promotion/IEC (Information, Education, Communication)activities with patients and local population to raise their knowledge and skills on relevant medical topics.

    Accountabilities

    • Inform patients and communities about MSF and services it provides.
    • According to medical priorities, deliver information to the patients and community on specific health topics
    • Implement activities of health education and awareness (sessions in schools, worship places, and strategic places in the community), under the indications and supervision of the HP Supervisor.
    • Under the guide of HP Supervisor, assess the impact of activities (with questions, verifications and behaviour observations), and report problems, success and constraints to him/her.
    • Collect all type of information related to specific health and living conditions of the population, in particular to identify the most vulnerable populations to target.
    • Report to HP Supervisor: activities, problems met, strengths and constraints.
    • Establish and maintain contacts with social partners, including other NGO’s, governmental health services that can provide answers to social problems.
    • Keep education and communication areas clean and tidy and professional materials available.
    • Participate in creation of any material needed for the activities of information, education and communication

    MSF Section/Context Specific Accountabilities

    • Promote MSF services among patients and communities, through clarifying MSF’s mandate in Borno state and explaining admission criteria for MSF facilities.
    • Management of information related to HP activities, including reports, materials.
    • Monitoring of stock related to HP activities, non-food items for patient kits.
    • Ensure all necessary patient in formation forms are properly collected, documented and stored; admission forms, testimonies, relapse, re-admission etc.
    • Organize -in collaboration with Nilefa Kiji Hospital based staff especially laboratory- blood donation campaigns/drives. In addition to facilitating blood replacement activity through 1) follow-up blood bank stock level in the laboratory, 2) monitor the pool of blood donors and 3) update donors list.
    • Create positive relationships with community groups (youth/women/leaders etc.), ensuring interactions are based on their needs, and aligned with MSF principles.
    • Provide health education sessions at the facility and the community when needed.
    • Support HP Manager/Supervisor in monitoring and evaluation of Health Promotion activities, through setting indicators to assess performance.
    • Support the HP Supervisor in the pre-testing of IEC tools where necessary
    • Responible for follow-up of absentees and defaulters through home visit and phone calls.
    • Analyse behaviours of caregivers and staffs, and act in response in collaboration with the medical team.
    • Conduct assessments and surveys in colaboration with the medical team.
    • Support caretakers in navigating facility structures to enusre compliance with rules, rights, responsibilities, and adherence to IPC measures.

    Minimum Required Skills and Qualifications
    Educational Qualification:

    • Education level in Social Science, Health Education, Social Communication, Nurse or Teaching
    • Internal MSF training on health messages will be necessary

    Experience:

    • Preferable previous experience in teaching, nursing or social work, community mobilization (for MSF at least two years).

    Languages:

    • Essential Fluency in English, Kanuri and Hausa.
    • Shuwa, and Ngamargu language is desirable

    Community Health Educator

    Main Purpose

    • Prepare, provide and present health education sessions to the population/patients according MSF principles and values in order to promote health information through health measures and hygiene conditions as well as provide information about MSF activities in order to facilitate access to healthcare

    Accountabilities

    • Prepare material and deliver health education sessions, messages and topics addressed to different populations regarding hygiene, diseases and prevention.
    • Ensure all the patients and caretakers are well informed, according to protocols, about health related issues and services provided.
    • Monitor health situation and living conditions of the population by conducting nutritional screening, collecting information related to food security, checking vaccination status of children, looking actively for any defaulters in programs that require this type of research, collecting information on number of people arriving or leaving the community, births and deaths in the community, etc.
    • Identify people with medical problems, contact with medical team and report for immediate transfer if needed. He/she has to inform to the line manager about any problem encountered (population, equipment, material…).
    • Report to line manager of all results of screening and visits on a regular basis.

    MSF Section/Context Specific Accountabilities

    • Strengthening the link between community and MSF and its activities:
    • Responsible for health education activities in the selected communities about MSF and different health topics.
    • Home visit/follow up to ATFC non-respondents/defaulters and TB patients.
    • Home visit/follow up to all eligible patients discharged in the ITFC
    • Organize meeting/capacity building sessions with the community leaders, community key people in the target communities.
    • Support the HP activities of ATFC/ITFC to ensure patients and caretakers receive good quality communication.
    • Implement health education and awareness campaigns, of specific health days in both facility and communities.
    • Participate in community-based surveillance during outbreaks.
    • Report to line manager of any constrain and results of activities on a regular basis.

    Minimum Required Skills and Qualifications
    Educational Qualification:

    • Essential: Literacy. An internal MSF training on health messages will be necessary.
    • Desirable: Diploma in Community Health, health education or CHW training (done by MoH or NGO) will be an asset

    Experience:

    • Desirable: 2 years working experience in a similar position.

    Languages:

    • Essential: Fluent in English, Hausa and Kanuri
    • Desirable: Shuwa and Ngamargu

    Competences:

    • Results oriented, Teamwork, Flexible, Committed, Stress Management
