    Production Manager

    Context and Background for the Arewa Inspiration Project

    • Girl Effect Nigeria is looking for a production company to produce highquality audio content as part of a new strategy in Northern Nigeria.

    By distributing shortform behaviourchange content on an Interactive Voice Recognition platform (IVR) and radio, the new strategy seeks to:

    • Empower Arewa girls to change their own lives by sharing the knowledge they need to make informed decisions
    • Bring a digital experience to people without access to the internet through a lofi digital product for vulnerable girls and boys
    • Reach more people than Girl Effect’s existing brands in Africa (specifically in Ethiopia, Malawi and Rwanda)
    • Girl Effect Nigeria currently has two existing products in the market for adolescent girls; Girls Connect, an IVR service that distributes shortform scripted content, and Springster, a digital platform and website. The new strategy will merge these products under one new brand, double the capacity of the IVR service, and introduce a radio element to promote the IVR line.     • Girl Effect are in a strategic phase between now and October, during which we will establish our impact framework, our new brand positioning and identity, our final product mix and our content strategy. Although we don’t know exactly what our content formats will be right now, we do know that we’re likely to produce both shortform scripted and shortform factual entertainment audio formats. We also welcome suggestions for other formats which could form part of our new offer.
    • The majority of these formats will be distributed on an Interactive Voice Recognition service and will need to be recorded in a way that’s both creatively and technically ‘fit for purpose’ for this distribution channel.

    What we are looking for

    • An established production company with specialist audio production expertise and credentials with multiple media industry clients. The production company must demonstrate the ability to record creative audio to an exceptionally high standard.
    • You will partner with us during a content development phase to pretest content ideas, work with the Girl Effect Production lead on the recruitment of a local writing team, casting and talent management, and lead on the ongoing production of all audio content.
    • Girl Effect Nigeria aim to have the production company onboard by the end of October 2018.

    Specific Deliverables

    • Work collaboratively with Girl Effect during a content development phase for the new brand in Nov and Dec 2018
    • Work with Girl Effect’s Production lead to recruit Hausa writers
    • Work with Girl Effect’s Production lead on casting and talent management
    • Provide of a fully equipped studio for rehearsals and production
    • Provide producers/directors, audio engineers and quality equipment (including multichannel mixers) for both studio and outdoor recordings.
    • Prepare preproduction meetings and schedule all audio recordings
    • Organise and attend script review meetings to ensure scripts are ready for production
    • Book location and permissions for outdoor recordings
    • Editing and mixing to deliver highquality audio in line with the production schedule
    • Creating and maintaining a bank of sound effects for use in the IVR and dramas. Such sound effects shall be unique to Girl Connect
    • Production of radio adverts for Girl Effect promos
    • Production of audio cues for Interactive Voice Recognition service

    Topline Timings for new Strategy Production:

    • Strategic phase for new brand: September
    • Development of new brand + content framework: October
    • New production company onboard: By end of October
    • Content development for new brand: November, December
    • Preproduction: January
    • Production: February
    • Products live: April

    Proposals must include:

    • Your company profile, outlining how your experience fits our requirement
    • Evidence of past work of a similar nature
    • Testimonials from other media industry clients
    • Profiles of key production personnel
    • Your rates or proposed methodology for costing
    • Audio recording of 2 short form content scripts provided by Girl Effect
    • Interested companies’ staff may be required to undertake safeguarding checks.

    Selection Criteria

    • Girl Effect Nigeria will assess all bids through a prewritten and fixed set of criteria which will consider technical quality, cost, personnel and experience.

    Senior Gender Manager

    Context of Role

    We are looking for a dynamic individual to lead the Gender team and work collaboratively to implement the gender strategy in Nigeria. The Gender team is Girl Effect’s gender technical function that integrates gender technical expertise into Girl Effect’s unique approach to social norm change for girls’ empowerment. The Senior Manager, Gender will be responsible for driving forward core gender components of our 3 products and will work closely with the product leads in Nigeria and London to ensure each product achieves social norm change for girls in Nigeria.

     What You’ll Do

    • Lead the overall implementation of the gender strategy in Nigeria ensuring Girl Effect’s highest possible impact in changing discriminatory social norms and empowering adolescent girls in Nigeria
    • Provide gender technical expertise to the development, delivery and assessment of the GEN country strategy and processes, bringing the voice of the girl and her needs into all strategy and product development
    • Contribute to increasing GE gender technical thought leadership by developing Nigeria specific research, supporting the global team on developing theoretic frameworks and other thought pieces to contribute to GE’s body of knowledge
    • Provide gender technical input to core GEN products, including TEGA, Girls Connect and Springster
    • Enable GEN team to ‘walk the talk’ by spearheading an internal learning agenda on gender-related issues and GE’s work for staff through formal training, films, huddles, talks, cross-country learning, etc.
    • Overall management of the Gender team, including effective line management and development of work plans that are aligned to country and global priorities
    • Represent GEN in external gender technical meetings to remain up-to-date on the current thinking and trends in the sector, feed learning back into organisational work and to showcase GE’s approach
    • Provide gender technical expertise into safeguarding policies and procedures to ensure all children and young people’s well-being, safety and best interests when engaging with GE’s work, acting as safeguarding focal points where required.

    Who You Are

    • You should have in depth demonstrable experience working on Gender and Development projects with specific knowledge of girl-centred programming and gender norm change theory and practice
    • You possess a deep understanding of national and international best practice on working with adolescent girls
    • You can demonstrable experience of working with girls and young women on the design, implementation and monitoring of programmes focusing on girls’ and women’s rights and gender equality, digital programming experience is desirable
    • You have knowledge of the partner and policy landscape as they relate to adolescent girls and gender norm change
    • You have excellent project management and planning skills with demonstrable experience in managing budgets and timeframes
    • Your report writing, presentation and communication skills and fluency in written and spoken English will be of a high standard  - the ability to speak Hausa is desirable
    • You have a high attention to detail and ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines
    • You are a team player with strong interpersonal skills and experience of and comfort with working in a multi-cultural team
    • You have a strong commitment to diversity and non-discrimination on grounds of culture, nationality, sex, disability, religion, race and age
    • You are adaptable - able to work in complex, unfamiliar and changing environments
    • You are proactive with a solution focused mindset
