    Internal Audit and Compliance Consultant

    Job Description

    • We are seeking an experienced Internal Control/Auditor and Compliance Consultant to support our commitment to high standards in financial and operational integrity.

    Position Summary

    • The Internal Control/Auditor and Compliance Consultant will be responsible for evaluating and strengthening GREENCODE’s internal control systems, ensuring adherence to financial and operational policies, and enhancing risk management processes.
    • This role is crucial in providing independent, objective audits and assessments of organizational practices to ensure compliance with internal policies, donor regulations, and industry standards.

    Key Responsibilities
    Internal Control and Risk Assessment

    • Conduct a thorough assessment of GREENCODE’s internal control systems, including financial, operational, and compliance controls.
    • Identify, assess, and document key risks within the organization, providing recommendations to mitigate them effectively.
    • Develop and implement a risk-based internal audit plan, aligning with GREENCODE’s strategic objectives and compliance requirements.

    Audit and Compliance:

    • Conduct internal audits of financial and operational processes to evaluate compliance with organizational policies, donor requirements, and regulatory standards.
    • Review and audit financial transactions, documentation, procurement processes, and other operational activities to ensure accuracy and compliance.
    • Track and ensure timely implementation of audit recommendations and corrective actions to address identified issues.
    • Verify compliance with donor guidelines, government regulations, and GREENCODE’s policies, documenting instances of non-compliance and recommending solutions.

    Reporting and Documentation:

    • Prepare comprehensive audit and compliance reports, detailing findings, risk assessments, and recommendations for process improvement.
    • Provide regular updates and a final report to GREENCODE’s management and Board, highlighting significant audit findings and compliance concerns.
    • Maintain organized documentation of audit processes, compliance records, and internal control evaluations to ensure transparency and facilitate follow-up audits.

    Policy Review and Development:

    • Review existing policies, procedures, and workflows, identifying gaps in controls and recommending updates to enhance compliance and effectiveness.
    • Support the development of new policies as needed to strengthen GREENCODE’s internal controls and risk management framework.
    • Provide guidance to project and finance teams on policies and best practices for compliance and internal controls.

    Training and Capacity Building:

    • Conduct training sessions for GREENCODE staff on internal control processes, compliance requirements, and best practices in risk management.
    • Develop and distribute reference materials, guidelines, and tools to empower team members to maintain high standards of accountability and compliance.

    Qualifications and Experience

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field; CPA, CIA, or similar professional certification is preferred.
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in internal audit, compliance, or financial management, preferably in the non-profit or humanitarian sector.
    • In-depth knowledge of internal control frameworks, risk management, and auditing standards.
    • Strong understanding of donor compliance requirements and experience auditing donor-funded projects.
    • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
    • Proficiency in using financial management and accounting software.
    • High ethical standards, integrity, and objectivity in conducting audits and compliance assessments.

    Preferred Skills:

    • Familiarity with grant compliance requirements of major donors (e.g., USAID, EU, UN agencies).
    • Experience conducting audits or compliance checks in remote or field-based contexts.
    • Effective communication skills, with the ability to present audit findings and recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

    Consultant - Security and Safety

    Position Summary

    • The Security and Safety Consultant will provide strategic and operational support to GREENCODE’s leadership and field teams, ensuring that security policies, procedures, and practices are robust, up-to-date, and aligned with the security risks in our operational areas.
    • This role is essential for enhancing GREENCODE’s security risk management framework and ensuring the safety of all personnel and assets across project sites.

    Responsibilities
    Security Risk Assessment and Management:

    • Conduct comprehensive security risk assessments for GREENCODE’s operational areas, identifying potential threats, vulnerabilities, and risks affecting the organization’s activities.
    • Develop and implement tailored security risk management strategies and mitigation plans to minimize threats to staff, assets, and operations.
    • Continuously monitor changes in security environments and update risk assessments as needed to reflect current threats.

    Security Policy Development and Review:

    • Develop emergency response plans, evacuation protocols, and incident management guidelines to address potential security incidents and crises.
    • Advise on and incorporate a gender-sensitive approach within security policies, ensuring safe practices for all staff, including women and vulnerable groups.

    Training and Capacity Building:

    • Conduct security training sessions and safety briefings for staff, covering topics such as personal security, travel safety, and risk mitigation measures.
    • Build the capacity of GREENCODE’s local security focal points, providing ongoing coaching and support to maintain safety and security standards.
    • Develop user-friendly security training materials, such as handbooks, quick reference guides, and checklists for field staff and partners.

    Incident Response and Crisis Management:

    • Support GREENCODE’s management in responding to security incidents, including assessing the situation, coordinating emergency responses, and recommending appropriate actions.
    • Serve as an on-call advisor during security incidents, providing expert guidance to manage threats effectively.
    • Document and analyze incidents to identify lessons learned and implement improvements in security practices.

    Networking and Coordination:

    • Establish and maintain strong relationships with relevant stakeholders, including local security forces, NGOs, UN agencies, and government bodies.
    • Participate in local and regional security coordination meetings to stay updated on security trends and potential threats.
    • Liaise with GREENCODE’s partners and field teams to ensure coordinated and standardized security practices across operational areas.

    Qualifications and Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree in Security Management, International Relations, Risk Management, or a related field. Advanced certifications in security management (e.g., Certified Protection Professional (CPP)) are a plus.
    • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in security management, risk assessment, or safety advisory roles, preferably within the humanitarian or non-profit sector.
    • Proven experience in high-risk environments, with demonstrated expertise in security planning and crisis management.
    • Strong knowledge of security risk management frameworks, emergency preparedness, and security protocols.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
    • Proficiency in using security management tools, GIS mapping, and risk analysis software is an advantage.

    Preferred Skills:

    • Experience working with organizations in conflict-prone or high-risk regions.
    • Familiarity with donor security requirements, including those of UN agencies, USAID, and the EU.
    • Ability to conduct and facilitate security training for diverse teams and levels of experience.

    Security and Safety Intern

    Job Summary

    • The Security Intern will support the security team in maintaining effective communication with field staff, conducting security assessments, managing incident reports, and collaborating with stakeholders.
    • This role provides an opportunity to gain hands on experience in security operations within a humanitarian context.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Communicate regularly with Field Managers and Field Officers regarding security updates.
    • Back check with Field Officers to confirm receipt of security advisories.
    • Document special reports generated by staff members and inform the Security Manager as necessary.
    • Confirm security incidents reported by staff.
    • Directly contact stakeholders within our security networks and community gatekeepers for updates.
    • Share special reports indicating heightened risks for visiting staff with the Security Manager via phone.
    • Draft security reports detailing actions taken in response to incidents.
    • Shadow Field Officers to assess adherence to security protocols and identify training gaps

    Learning Objectives:

    • The intern will gain practical experience in:

    Education and Work Experience Requirements

    • BSc or its equivalent in Social Sciences discipline

    • Candidate must be resident in Maiduguri.
    • Good organizational skills, effective time management, ability to meet deadlines, multitask, and prioritize tasks.

    Language Requirements:
