    Head, Environmental Health Safety and Security (EHSS)

    Job Purpose:

    • The Head, EHSS is responsible for the day-to-day organization, monitoring, developing and the implementation of EHSS guidelines and standards for all Company's operation and projects in Nigeria.
    • Develop, Maintain and monitors implementation of EHSS Management System in Nigeria.
    • Create appropriate workplace culture and awareness of EHSS issues across the business.
    • Generate an awareness of Company's EHSS expectation at all staff levels.
    • Develop and maintain EHSS related standards to support management in discharging their responsibilities.
    • Engage contractors, JV partners and other companies through EHSS forums.
    • Develop national staff across the EHSS disciplines.
    • Report EHSS performance throughout the company and externally as required.

    Responsibilities and Key Objectives:

    • Ensuring that all Project EHSS objectives and targets are clearly defined and communicated to project team leaders and members in Nigerian operations.
    • Setting in-depth initiatives to improve safety performance in all operations.
    • Keeping the Senior Management appraised of safety performance and recommending methods of improvement.
    • Keeping appraised with the Company’s project wide safety program.
    • Ensure that all incidents and accidents are reported, investigated with detailed root cause analysis carried out to mitigate any future occurrences.
    • Ensuring that all lessons learned are communicated throughout the organisation.
    • Conducting EHSS surveys and ensuring appropriate corrective actions are taken if required.
    • Ensuring the conduct of sufficient site Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), firedrills, TBT’s, permit to work etc.
    • Conducting EHSS audits and inspections at various site locations
    • Ensuring the implementations of EHSS mandates within the working practices of each site location and subcontractor facility

    PERSON SPECIFICATION

    • Education: A tertiary qualification in an EHSS discipline is desirable. Masters in a Science or Engineering degree in a reputable
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Must have experience working with various computer systems, windows 98, 2000, vista etc
    • Strong management and leadership skills.
    • Working knowledge of local and international laws, regulations, codes, standards, and best industry practices for EHSS (e.g. ISO, OGP, IADC, UKOOA, API, ASME, NFPA,

    Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

    • The role of the Head, EHSS requires a skilled industry practitioner with no less than 20 years’ experience relevant to EHS, both in a line position and EHSS professional roles.
    • Considerable experience in health, safety, and environmental risk management in a systems or product engineering design, manufacturing and/or construction environment.
    • Considerable experience in an EHSS management/supervisory position in international work environments.oIn-depth project experienced for marine and onshore/offshore oil and gas facilities and operations
    • oExpert level in EHSS Management systems, their development, implementation and external certificationoExcellent interpersonal skills are critical in order to influence and engage management, contractors and Company's National employees.

    Rig Operations Manager

    Overall Purpose Of The Job

    • Formulating strategy for efficient rig usage, improving performance, procuring material and resources, and securing compliance.
    • To maintain, and enhance as appropriate, the rig and associated equipment to retain its asset value and marketability.
    • To continuously develop improvements to rig site practices to enhance safety and performance.
    • To work with Operator’s representatives and those of other contractors at site to optimize the use of resources, achieve cohesion of the inputs to drilling operations and to create a spirit of cross-company teamwork.
    • Manage the manpower and resources of the rig to achieve optimum performance so as to ensure the well program is carried out in a safe, efficient and productive manner
    • Promote and ensure that all Company Policies and Procedures are communicated and understood by Personnel and rig crew
    • Provide leadership, guidance and coaching to direct reports, and manage their efforts so as to maximize their contribution to operational effectiveness and performance
    • Direct enactment of the Client’s drilling programs and manage rig resources being applied to the drilling activities at site to achieve safe, efficient and effective operations.
    • Conduct, together with the Operator’s representatives, timely reviews of the drilling or work-over program
    • To maintain, and enhance as appropriate, the rig and associated equipment to retain its asset value and marketability, and to continuously develop improvements to rig site practices so as to enhance safety and performance
    • Ensures rig complies with Flag State and certifying Regulatory Bodies requirement.

    Principal Accountabilities

    Health, Safety & Environment

    To demonstrate and promote safety Leadership to the rig crews

    To plan and manage the activities of the drilling crews such that drilling operations are conducted safely, efficiently, and effectively in accordance with Company and Operator’s policies to the highest standards of international good oilfield practices in conformance with applicable legislation and standards.

    • Ensure that the Company HSE policies and other programs are communicated to and understood by all rig Personnel
    • Play an active part in the weekly meetings, Quality Improvement Plan program and all other Company safety management systems
    • Ensure that drills and exercises involving the use of all types of lifesavings, firefighting and other safety equipment are conducted regularly
    • Ensure a high standard of hygiene and housekeeping is maintained onboard the rig
    • Ensure the Emergency Response Plan is in place for the rig and understood by all personnel on the rig.
    • Ensure that incident reports are filled out in detail and in a timely manner in the event of an incident, illness, near miss, equipment damage or environmental spill.
    • Ensure understanding of, and compliance with, TDS permit to work system

    Operations

    • Manage the planning and efficient execution of any drilling program in coordination with Operator’s Representative and Company’s rig department heads
    • Ensure that the rig is operated in accordance with the design parameters and in accordance with rig maintenance systems
    • Hold daily operations meeting with Operator’s Representative and rig department heads
    • Ensure pre-job meeting is carried out for hazardous situations and non-routine operations 2.5 Ensure that the rig is operated in accordance with the design parameters and in conformance with RMS.

    Financials

    • Develop and submit a consolidated rigs annual maintenance budget to the GM Wells for approval
    • Review all rig generated Requisitions Purchase Orders for equipment or parts necessary to keep the drilling operation free of downtime.
    • Manages Warehouse inventory level to comply with targets. Ensure sufficient stock of parts and materials are maintained
    • Ensure all required paperwork and approvals in connection with payment for work done are duly completed and submitted to Operator’s representative for execution.
    • Personnel
    • Provide leadership, guidance and coaching to direct reports, and manage their efforts so as to maximize their contribution to operational effectiveness and efficiency
    • Mentor, develop and train crew members to ensure they are competent to work at their next job level
    • Ensure proper and relevant communication with all onboard personnel
    • Ensure all employees on the rig receive an annual performance appraisal
    • Ensure that all rig-based employees receive an annual performance appraisal. Recommend promotion or disciplinary action up to and including discharge
    • Take responsibility for all HR matters at rig site, including training and development of expatriate and national staff in the rig crews, particularly with regard to on-the-job training

    Maintenance

    • Implement recommendations from Audits as issued by Operator’s third party inspectors, Regulatory Authorities, or rig management.
    • Take responsibility for planned maintenance, certification, record-keeping, and reporting
    • Develop rig move plans and manage rig moves, taking personal responsibility for safely rigging-down & rigging-up of the drilling rig, camp, and associated equipment
    • Maintain the validity of personnel certification and training for the rig crews
    • Monitor the application of the Company Preventive Maintenance system program. Ensures equipment and systems are operational by setting priorities on equipment repairs
    • Monitor all onboard equipment and systems usage, supervise testing and inspection of critical equipment and systems

    Training

    • Assist rig departmental supervisors in the On-the-Job Training (OJT) system on board
    • Ensure rig-site training courses and accelerated rig training program for rig crew as per training matrix is carried out
    • Support training of rig management on the HS&E management system
    • Mentor, develop and train crew members to ensure they are competent to work at their next job level.
    • Manage the rig’s training program to ensure all personnel are competent to perform their allocated job.
    • Maintain the validity of personnel certification and training together with that for the rig crew

    Materials & Inventory Control

    • Liaise with rig organization departmental heads in the preparation of materials requisitions for all parts and equipment – Focus on planning to minimize urgent orders
    • Assist rig department heads in establishing a realistic minimum/maximum warehouse stock of all shut down or critical items.

    Risk Assessment and Audit

    • Review risk assessment done for each drilling project proposed by the Operator’s representative to mitigate well integrity issues or schedule slippage.
    • Define and implement rig equipment integrity management plan including assurance
    • Investigate rig equipment failures and deviations from operating envelop. Rig equipment failure investigations (including evaluating equipment performance integrity logs and data) and integrity technical reviews are performed.
    • Ensure rig equipment certification and performance checks are carried out as at when due and ensure validity is maintained throughout the operating life cycle of the equipment.

    Well Control Management & Prevention

    • Responsible for the application of technical and equipment operational solutions to reduce risk of uncontrolled release of well fluids to surface throughout the Operator’s drilling program execution which could have severe impact on people, Operator’s asset and environment.
    • Responsible for blowout emergency and well control interventions
    • Develop and maintain a blowout contingency and emergency response plan
    • Custodian of Company’s well control manual and ensures strict compliance to policy therein

    Manage Drilling Rigs

    • Maintain daily communication with the rig departmental heads on all relevant activities regarding the rig’s operation and other rig activities
    • Ensure manpower and resources required to operate the rigs are available to achieve optimum rig performance to ensure that Operator’s drilling programs are carried out in a safe, efficient and productive manner
    • Responsible along with Client representative for all third-party services on the rig

    Requirements

    • Expereince with managing Rig activities
    • Excellent understanding of well operations and rig activities
    • Well vast in knowledge of rig and service contractor equipment functionality
    • Understand of Mud Circulating systems, Rigging procedures, Rotary equipment
    • Ability to recognize signs of kick and loss of fluid situations and the procedures for circulating out a kick
    • Emergency shut-in procedures and be able to respond to any emergency efficiently.
