    Lead Consultant, Qualitative Research

    Summary

    The objective of the lead qualitative researcher is to coordinate and implement the Monkeypox Behavioral Exploratory Research activity using the already designed methodology. He/She will play a critical role in ensuring the research is conducted effectively, insights are gathered, and recommendations for effective interventions are developed.

    Scope of Work

    The lead qualitative researcher will work closely with Breakthrough ACTION RCCE Technical team to coordinate and implement the Monkeypox Behavioral Exploratory Research using a predefined methodology, ensuring adherence to research protocols and ethical considerations. They will supervise qualitative data collection, analyze the data, identify behavioral trends and risk factors, and prepare comprehensive reports with recommendations for effective interventions, while maintaining effective communication with stakeholders and partners throughout the research process.

    Responsibilities:

    • Develop and refine the research plan and methodology for the Monkeypox Behavioral Exploratory Research, in consultation with the research team and consultants.
    • Coordinate and supervise the qualitative data collection activities, ensuring adherence to research protocols, ethical considerations, and quality standards.
    • Support to train, and supervise the qualitative data collectors, providing guidance and support throughout the data collection process.
    • Conduct pre-testing and piloting of data collection tools and instruments to ensure their effectiveness and relevance.
    • Monitor and manage the progress of data collection, ensuring timely and accurate completion of interviews, focus group discussions, and observations.
    • Oversee the translation and transcription process, ensuring the accuracy and consistency of the qualitative data collected.
    • Conduct data analysis, interpret findings, and identify key behavioral trends, risk factors, and drivers related to Monkeypox transmission.
    • Collaborate with the research team and consultants to integrate qualitative findings with other research components for a comprehensive analysis.
    • Prepare and present reports, including detailed summaries of qualitative data, analysis, and recommendations for effective interventions including additional literature review.
    • Ensure the research is conducted within the defined timeline and budget, addressing any challenges or issues that may arise.
    • Maintain effective communication and collaboration with stakeholders, partners, and relevant authorities throughout the research process.

    Deliverables:

    • Detailed research plan and methodology for the Monkeypox Behavioral Exploratory Research with a robust extensive literature review.
    • Supervision and coordination of qualitative data collection activities, ensuring quality and adherence to research protocols.
    • Transcribed and translated qualitative data, ready for analysis.
    • Comprehensive data analysis, including the identification of behavioral trends, risk factors, and key drivers related to Monkeypox transmission.
    • Reports summarizing qualitative findings, analysis, and recommendations for effective interventions.
    • Effective coordination and collaboration with the research team, consultants, and stakeholders.

    Minimum Qualifications & Skills

    • Advanced degree in public health, social sciences, or a related field with a focus on qualitative research.
    • Minimum of 8-year extensive experience in designing and conducting qualitative research studies, preferably in the field of infectious diseases or public health.
    • Strong understanding of behavioral research methodologies, data collection techniques, and analysis frameworks.
    • Proficiency in qualitative data analysis software or tools.
    • Excellent project management and organizational skills, with the ability to coordinate and prioritize multiple tasks.
    • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to interpret complex qualitative data and draw meaningful conclusions.
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills to effectively present findings and recommendations to diverse stakeholders.
    • Leadership qualities and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
    • Knowledge of research ethics and confidentiality protocols.

    Qualitative Researchers

    Summary

    The objective for the qualitative researchers is to collect data and gather in-depth insights into the behavioral aspects of Monkeypox transmission, prevention, and control. Their role is crucial in supporting the research activity and contributing to the development of effective strategies to combat the infectious disease.

    Scope of Work

    The consultant will work closely with the RCCE technical team of Breakthrough ACTION-Nigeria to carry out qualitative data collection on specific themes. This will be done concurrently in the following states: Kebbi, Lagos, FCT, and Rivers

    Responsibilities:

    • Conduct qualitative data collection activities, including interviews, focus group discussions, and observations, following the approved research protocols and guidelines.
    • Engage with individuals and communities in the selected areas (Kebbi, Lagos, FCT, and Rivers) to gather relevant information on Monkeypox behaviors, perceptions, and practices.
    • Facilitate open and meaningful discussions to explore behavioral patterns, risk factors, and key drivers associated with Monkeypox transmission.
    • Ensure confidentiality and ethical considerations throughout the data collection process.
    • Take detailed notes, audio recordings, and/or visual documentation as required during data collection sessions.
    • Assist in the translation and transcription of qualitative data, ensuring accuracy and maintaining the context of the information collected.
    • Collaborate with the research team and consultants to provide timely updates and reports on the progress of data collection activities.
    • Adhere to the project timeline and deliverables, completing assigned tasks within the agreed-upon timeframe.
    • Maintain professionalism and respect cultural sensitivities while engaging with research participants.

    Deliverables:

    • Complete and accurate qualitative data collection, including interview transcripts, field notes, and observation reports.
    • Timely submission of data collection updates and progress reports.
    • Active participation in team meetings and discussions.

    Minimum Qualifications & Skills

    • Minimum of five years of experience conducting qualitative analysis for health-related development projects.
    • Strong experience in qualitative data collection techniques, such as interviews and focus group discussions.
    • Good understanding of public health and behavioral research principles.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to engage effectively with diverse individuals and communities.
    • Proficiency in local languages spoken in the selected areas (Kebbi, Lagos, FCT, and Rivers) for effective communication with participants- Hausa required for Kebbi and FCT applicants, Yoruba in Lagos, and Pidgin English in Rivers state.
    • Attention to detail and ability to document data accurately.
    • Familiarity with research ethics and confidentiality protocols.
    • Ability to work collaboratively in a team and adapt to changing circumstances.
    • Ability to conduct literature review on specified theme.
    • Fluency in English language (Spoken and written)
    • Proof of previous experiences collecting qualitative data.
    • Ability to mobilize resources and deliver within specified timeline

    Transcription and Translation Consultants

    Summary

    The consultant will work closely with the RCCE technical team of Breakthrough ACTION-Nigeria to carry out qualitative data transcription and translation on specific themes. This will be done concurrently in the following states: Kebbi, Lagos, FCT, and Rivers

    Deliverables:

    • Transcribe and translate audio recordings, field notes, and observation field reports from indigenous languages (Hausa, Yoruba, Pidgin) to English.
    • Prepare a translated scripts in English to each question using the assessment tool.

    Minimum Qualifications & Skills

    • Minimum of Five years of experience conducting qualitative analysis for health-related development projects.
    • Strong experience in qualitative data collection techniques, such as interviews and focus group discussions.
    • Good understanding of public health and behavioral research principles.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to engage effectively with diverse individuals and communities.
    • Proficiency in local languages spoken in the selected areas (Kebbi, Lagos, FCT, and Rivers) for effective communication with participants.
    • Attention to detail and ability to document data accurately.
    • Familiarity with research ethics and confidentiality protocols.
    • Ability to work collaboratively in a team and adapt to changing circumstances.
    • Ability to conduct literature review on specified theme.
    • Fluency in English language (Spoken and written)
    • Fluency in Hausa required for Kebbi and FCT applicants. Fluency in Yoruba is required for Lagos Applicants and Pidgin English is required for River’s applicants.
    • Ability to use qualitative tools like Nvivo, ATLAS.ti, Maxqda or other Research Text tool.
    • Provision of at least 2 samples of previous work (To be provided if contacted).
    • Ability to mobilize resources and deliver within specified timeline.
