    Producer (Nigeria)

    Job Purpose

    • The Producer is expected to initiate and drive the entire production process of any radio, television, or digital output, from concept development to the delivery of the final product.
    • The role requires collaboration with other members of the production and training department to produce high-quality radio, television, and digital outputs.
    • The Producer will play a key role in planning, conducting, and recording interviews, discussions, and other content for BBC Media Action’s factual radio, digital, and TV productions.
    • The Producer will be responsible for ensuring that the produced outputs fulfil thematic objectives whilst having significant appeal within the target audience[s].
    • The Producer will be involved in scripting cues and editorial discussions on the content of each edition.

    Main Duties and Responsibilities

    • Under the supervision of the Head of Production and Training, and working with other producers and technical producers, ensure the design and delivery of radio and digital outputs from concept inception to post-production.
    • Conduct planning and budgeting to cover the entire process of media production: pre-production, production, and post-production.
    • To present designated outputs in a clear, exciting and engaging manner.
    • Plan, conduct and record interviews and other contents around Nigeria on a wide variety of topics.
    • Ensures that BBC Media Action’s digital and broadcast outputs are creative and impactful.
    • Produce a range of social media and radio outputs that are creative, informative, engaging.
    • Work with other members of the Production and Training team to ensure that all media productions meet project objectives and BBC editorial guidelines.
    • Work with other Production & Training team members to ensure that BBC Media Action’s digital and radio outputs complement one another for maximum reach and audience impact.
    • Pitch, write, record, report and edit original BBC Media Action content geared toward social media and radio audiences.
    • Coordinate and conduct research on themes and ensure all content information is accurate, clear and unambiguous.
    • Take the lead in the recording of media outputs on the production set.
    • This involves directing the recording/ filming of the outputs.
    • Work with technical producers in the post-production process and ensure that the final product is delivered within established timelines.
    • Coordinate with other departments as appropriate to ensure that production output meets project objectives, drawing on research findings, informing training, and being distributed on time.
    • Any other tasks assigned by Media Action to achieve project and organisational objectives.

    Required skills, knowledge, and experience

    • Experience in producing engaging, creative content for social media, television or radio.
    • Creative writing and content presentation skills in English and Hausa
    • Strong attention to detail and an ability to work within established deadlines.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, and experience using these skills in a media production setting.
    • Evidence of imagination and an enthusiasm for generating new ideas, particularly those with the broadest possible audience appeal.
    • Strong understanding of the role of communications in development.
    • Demonstrable experience applying sound editorial judgement in the production of social media, television or radio content.
    • Demonstrable understanding of BBC editorial values.

    Senior Technical Producer (Nigeria)

    Job Purpose

    • The Senior Technical Producer will work with the Head of Production and Training and other members of the production and training department to produce high-quality multimedia outputs.
    • The Senior Technical Producer will oversee studio management and production activities for BBC Media Action in Nigeria, focusing on delivering dynamic and distinctive radio, TV, and social media programming in line with BBC standards. In this vein, the Senior Technical Producer is expected to contribute to the actualisation of production objectives through the application of technical skills in the different aspects and stages of content creation.
    • The Senior Technical Producer will lead a team of technical producers and other production personnel to deliver outputs across different programme genres and formats.
    • The role reports to the Head of Production and will work closely with other producers.

    Main Duties and Responsibilities

    • Under the supervision of the Head of Production and Training, and working with other technical producers, take responsibility for a range of sound and video recording and editing needs for BBC Media Action in Nigeria.
    • This may include location recording of radio dramas, field interviews, debates, in-studio recordings, public service announcements, or any other potential output on any platform.
    • Supervise a team of technical producers as they conduct the recording and editing of original BBC Media Action content for publishing and broadcast across media channels.
    • Lead on ensuring that the technical quality of BBC Media Action’s production activities and outputs is as creative and impactful in a dynamic and evolving media market.
    • Be responsible for post-production editing of programs, sound balancing of programs for broadcast, and delivery of final versions to the deadline.
    • Work with relevant teams to plan ahead of production, including recces, equipment prep, logistics, and consideration of health and safety issues from a technical recording perspective.
    • Along with the rest of the technical production team, take responsibility for technical safety in the studio and on location, and operate all equipment safely adhering to safety regulations.
    • Keep up with the latest recording and editing advances, methods and trends and implement them into your work.
    • Contribute to content creation by participating actively in brainstorming and ideation activities.
    • Any other tasks assigned by Media Action to achieve project and organisational objectives.

    Required skills, knowledge, and experience

    • Strong experience in recording video and sound for radio, TV and digital, both in-studio and in a variety of outdoor settings.
    • Strong attention to detail and an ability to work within established deadlines.
    • Excellent planning and time management skills.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, and experience using these skills in a media production setting

    Producer - Drama (Nigeria)

    Job Purpose

    • The Producer will initiate and drive the entire production process of our Hausa language radio drama, creating, designing, planning, and producing the radio drama on agreed-upon themes.
    • The Producer will facilitate script writing, editing, and recording of the drama, ensuring compliance with our established production processes.
    • The Producer will be responsible for ensuring that the produced radio drama fulfils thematic objectives whilst having significant appeal within the target audience[s].
    • The role requires collaboration with other members of the production and training department to produce high-quality radio drama.

    Main Duties and Responsibilities

    • Identify, organise and oversee the activities of writers, actors, directors, technical producers, assistant producers and other personnel throughout the production process for a radio drama, including contracting, logistics, scheduling, research, writing, recording, and editing.
    • Conduct planning and budgeting to cover the entire process of radio drama production: pre- production, production, and post-production.
    • Ensure that all scripts and recordings meet project objectives and are in line with BBC Editorial values and standards, by working with scriptwriters in developing story outlines and editing final drafts and working with actors in rehearsals and recordings.
    • Coordinate and conduct research on themes and ensure all content information is accurate, clear and unambiguous across languages
    • Take the lead in the organisation of writing and script editing workshops. This includes creating storylines and writing scripts in Hausa and English.
    • Take the lead in the recording of the radio drama on the production set. This involves ensuring that all necessary resources for the activity are provided and collaborating with other relevant staff to ensure a smooth production process. It also involves directing the radio drama in Hausa and English.
    • Work with technical producers in the post-production process of the drama and ensure that the final product is delivered within established timelines.
    • Coordinate with other departments as appropriate to ensure that production outputs are meeting project objectives, drawing on research findings, informing training, and being distributed on time.
    • After appropriate training, be able to use a range of audiovisual & digital equipment and information technology to research, write, assemble, edit and deliver programmes in the appropriate medium, to the highest professional standards.
    • Any other tasks assigned by Media Action to achieve project and organisational objectives.

    Required skills, knowledge, and experience

    • Experience in producing engaging, creative content for social media, television or radio.
