    Agro-Pastoralist Officer

    Action Against Hunger is currently looking to fill the role of Agro-pastoralist Officer who will be responsible for the strategic implementation, technical oversight, and coordination of agro-pastoralism activities under the PASCO project. The role focuses on enhancing sustainable livestock and pastoral livelihoods, improving market access, and promoting resilience among agro-pastoral communities. The Officer will work closely with local authorities, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), and private sector actors to implement innovative solutions that support cross-border livestock marketing, pastoralism and livestock value chain.

    Reporting to: Agro-pastoralist Programme Manager
    Proposed start date: August 2025

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Promote climate-resilient and conflict-sensitive pastoralist interventions;
    • Collaborate with the Agropastoralist Programme Manager to develop and refine methodologies for intervention strategies;
    • Ensure the integration of gender-sensitive and youth-inclusive approaches in project activities;
    • Spearheaded the implementation of agro-pastoral activities, ensuring timely execution in line with project work plans;
    • Supervise and provide technical guidance to the Community/Stakeholders Engagement Assistant;
    • Conduct regular field visits to track project progress, identify challenges, and propose corrective actions;
    • Support the development of activity progress reports and contribute to donor reports;
    • Ensure synergy between agro-pastoral components and other project initiatives to maximize impact;
    • Work closely with the Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) team to ensure robust data collection, analysis, and learning;
    • Engage with local government authorities, traditional leaders, and other stakeholders to facilitate project buy-in;
    • Support the development of cross-border agreements and cooperation frameworks for livestock mobility and trade;
    • Represent ACF in meetings related to pastoralism, livestock value chains, and rural development.
    • Strengthen partnerships with relevant technical institutions, research bodies, and private sector actors;
    • Ensure compliance with PASCO project communication and visibility protocols;
    • Support the planning and execution of PASCO agro-pastoral interventions, ensuring alignment with ACF’s FSL policy and international best practices;
    • Conduct feasibility studies and needs assessments related to agro-pastoralism, livestock market systems, and rural livelihoods;
    • Provide technical guidance on sustainable livestock production, pasture management, animal health, and value chain development;
    • Support the establishment and strengthening of livestock producer organizations, pastoral committees, and cross-border marketing groups;
    • Identify training and capacity-building needs of field staff and local partners, designing relevant interventions;
    • Support the recruitment and onboarding of field personnel engaged in agro-pastoral activities;
    • Organize knowledge-sharing sessions, fostering innovation and best practices in agro-pastoral livelihoods.

    Position Requirements:

    • Bachelor Degree in Animal Production, Agronomy, Agro-economics, Animal Science, Veterinary Medicine, Agriculture or other relevant disciplines related to rural development and livestock management;
    • Minimum of 4 years of experience in core livelihoods, food security, Agro/Livestock related interventions and climate adaptation projects;
    • Proven experience in managing complex Agro-pastoral projects, including infrastructure development and Value chain support;
    •  Knowledge of climate-resilient agriculture and livestock integration strategies in fragile environments;
    • Demonstrated expertise in livestock value chains, natural resource management, and pastoral resilience programming;
    • Prior experience in humanitarian and/or development programs, particularly in conflict-affected settings;
    • Experience in team management, stakeholder engagement, and community mobilization;
    • Proven management and coordination skills (HR, projects, and stress management);
    • Proven ability to translate analysis and evaluation into operational planning and strategy;
    • Experience with evaluations and monitoring as well as Program Cycle Management;
    • Clear understanding of child and gender protection issues in the field;
    • Good understanding of the North East Nigeria social and operational environment;

    Community/Stakeholders Engagement Assistant

    Action Against Hunger is currently looking to fill the role of Community/Stakeholders Engagement Assistant who will be responsible to support the PASCO project through effective community mobilization, stakeholder coordination, and participatory engagement processes. The role involves facilitating access to community structures, promoting inclusion, and ensuring that local actors are informed, consulted, and actively involved in agro-pastoral activities. The Assistant will liaise with local leaders, pastoralist groups, women/youth associations, and relevant CSOs to build strong relationships and ensure ownership and sustainability of interventions.

    Reporting to: Agro-pastoralist Programme Manager
    Proposed start date: August 2025

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Mobilize and sensitize targeted communities about PASCO project goals and planned activities;
    • Facilitate access to and engagement with local leaders, livestock associations, and pastoralist groups;
    • Organize and document community meetings, FGDs, and consultation sessions;
    • Ensure inclusive participation of women, youth, and vulnerable groups in project activities;
    • Address community concerns and provide feedback to the Agropastoralist Programme Manager;
    • Support mapping and engagement of key stakeholders including local CSOs, market actors, and livestock cooperatives;
    • Facilitate local networking sessions and dialogue forums to promote collaboration and trust-building;
    • Maintain a database of key contacts, actors, and engagement outcomes;
    • Assist in organizing multi-stakeholder workshops and field visits;
    • Ensure robust data collection, analysis, and learning;
    • Engage with local government authorities, traditional leaders, and other stakeholders to facilitate project buy-in;

    Position Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences, Rural Development, Community Development, or related fields;
    • Minimum of 2 years of experience in community mobilization, stakeholder engagement, or support to livelihoods, food security, or agro/livestock-related interventions;
    • Proven experience in engaging community leaders, CSOs, cooperatives, and market actors in humanitarian or development settings;
    • Knowledge of participatory approaches, social inclusion, and accountability mechanisms in fragile or conflict-affected environments;
    • Demonstrated ability to build trust and maintain positive relationships with community members, traditional leaders, and local institutions;
    • Prior experience working with NGOs or local government agencies, particularly in the Northeast Nigeria context;
    • Experience supporting workshops, community sensitizations, and feedback mechanisms;

    Mental Health, Psychosocial Support and Protection (MHPSS) Officer

    Action Against Hunger is currently looking to fill the role of Mental Health, Psychosocial Support, and Protection (MHPSS) Officer, who will be responsible for providing psychosocial and protection services to vulnerable populations and capacity building to non-specialists at primary health care and community levels. 

    Reporting to: Nutrition and Health Programme Manager

    Proposed start date: August 2025

    Work location: Nguru, Yobe State

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Conduct psychological assessments and plan the appropriate interventions and follow-up for the beneficiaries;
    • Ensure an appropriate, safe and confidential environment for psychological interventions (framework to discuss highly emotional issues, set up group rules, values, exercises, etc.) , in communities, schools, camps, primary health care centres, community based-organizations, and home visits;
    • Ensure the high quality of intervention and care are provided to beneficiaries;
    • Ensure regular and proper use of psychometric scales;
    • Provide individual and group therapeutic sessions and activities for persons in need, including children, adolescents, adults, families and persons with specific vulnerabilities;
    • Strictly follow standard ACF protocols;
    • Ensure confidentiality and proper documentation of clinical details in the patient file;
    • Ensure referrals to specialized services (MHPSS, Health, Protection etc) when needed, according to ACF protocols and national standards; Follow-up the quality of care provided by partnering agencies and actors; Follow-up closely on protection issues;
    • Provide staff care to health workers and community helpers, according to ACF protocols and national policies;
    • Provide psychological support remotely if needed (in case of no access to the field);
    • Prepare (with the program manager) and conduct trainings for general practitioners, nurses, midwives, health workers, and psychosocial workers in primary health care centers, hospitals, on MHPSS, protection and care practices, according to ACF international standards (like mhGAP, PM+, IPT, Thinking Healthy, child development, basic helping skills, Life skills, Social and Emotional skills, etc);
    • Conduct regular on the job and group supervision of trained non-specialists, including technical support, case management, patients assessments, counselling skills;
    • Assist the ACF psychosocial workers to prepare and conduct training and technical supervision for community-based organisations and stakeholders (conduct trainings in absence of psychosocial workers);
    • Contribute to the training and supervision of ACF psychosocial workers and ACF teams of other department (particularly on Psychological First Aid and psychosocial/protection issues and referral);
    • Ensure the high quality standard of capacity building;
    • Participate actively in clinical and technical supervision conducted by the Program Manager and HoD MHPSS; proposing monthly case studies;
    • Contribute to the design of sectorial guidelines, protocols, SOPs and methodologies of work for tailored interventions;
    • As defined by the project manager, contribute to any other project activity, including multi-sectorial integrated activities, psychoeducation and awareness sessions and campaigns, needs assessments, gender and protection risks assessments, mapping of actors and services, workshops, selection of beneficiaries, identification of vulnerable groups, planning of activities, etc;
    • Permanently evaluate needs and gaps related to MHPSS and protection, report challenges, suggest project improvements for implementation and propose new interventions;
    • Contribute to data collection, monitoring, evaluation and reporting on a daily, weekly and monthly basis, according to ACF tools and processes; Guarantee and ensure the confidentiality of beneficiaries information and data collection at any time, and for any activity;
    • Understand and follow the logistic, financial, HR and security procedures enabling the project implementation;
    • Collaborate actively with other ACF departments;
    • Contribute to represent ACF at the field level through meetings with implementing partners, INGOs and NGOs, cluster and working group coordination, on request of the program manager and HoD MHPSS;
    • Ensure adherence to ACF gender requirement; commit and comply with ACF gender, age and diversity principles;
    • Support the implementation and the promotion of gender, age and diversity principles at anytime during activities.

    Position Requirements:

    • Post-graduate degree in psychology, counseling (master's degree and clinical psychology and mental health counseling are assets)
    • Minimum 2 years of professional experience;
    • Experience related to MHPSS, Protection and/or Care Practices;
    • Experience in the humanitarian context, with vulnerable populations, IDPs, refugees, in host communities, camps, and PHCs;
    • Experience in psychological assessment, counselling and follow-up;
    • Experience in case management and referral.
    • Experience in training and supervision;
    • Knowledge or experience of MHPSS IASC, WHO and community-based guidelines;
    • Technical skills in psychological assessment and testing, counselling, psychotherapy. Knowledge or experience in trauma, severe mental health conditions, SGBV, child development, care practices;
    • Training and supervision skills for health workers and community members. Skills in data collection, monitoring and evaluation;
    • Excellent communication, listening and observation skills;
    • Empathy, tolerance and flexibility; Sensitivity towards protection and confidentiality issues; Capacity for team work and team spirit;
    • Autonomy;
    • Good knowledge of local customs, norms and culture;
    • Fluent English (both oral and written);
      Hausa is an asset (both oral and written);
    • Availability of candidate who can work in stressful environment. This position requires field travel at least 80% of the time.

    Nutrition and Health Programme Manager

    Action Against Hunger is currently looking to fill the role of Nutrition and Health Programme Manager who will be responsible for the overall management including personnel, budget, logistics and work plans management of Nutrition project implemented in Sokoto State (Sokoto North, Denge Shuni and Gadabawa LGAs)
    The post holder is also in charge throughout the project life cycle, this involves effectively managing and reporting on the projects in line with its specific scope, schedule, resources, quality, risks, representation, coordination and contractual requirements. The PM will provide technical support, leadership and strategic direction to Nutrition team.

    Reporting to: North West Coordinator
    Proposed start date: August 2025

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Ensure projects are implemented in line with donor proposals and requirements and in accordance with Action against Hunger, country and international standards;
    • Finalize and manage the update and implementation of the detailed Project(s) Implementation Plan (PIP) and project operational plan;
    • Develop detailed monthly/weekly implementation plans for project staff in order to achieve the activities in the PIP;
    • In collaboration with the Nutrition and Health HOD, support the development of strategies addressing the problems linked to malnutrition in the Northwest region;
    • In collaboration with Nutrition and Health HOD/DHOD ensure continued review of remote management strategy based on the evolving context, work closely with relevant Government agencies to ensure quality in implementation of remotely managed programs, when required;
    • Jointly with the SPHCDA and the LGA health authorities promoting and supervising high quality care for clients of the OTP/SC Sites supported by ACF;          
    • Monitoring the system of data collection concerning the Primary Health Care Services provided at the ACF supported health facilities as a basis for the evaluation and furtherance of the programme;
    • Initiate and oversee needs and technical assessments and analysis, as well as preparing the follow up reports in coordination with the Project Coordinator, HoD/DHoD Nutrition and Health, M&E HoD/DHoD and DCDs;
    • In keeping with the policy of ACF as a learning organisation, contributing to building on good practice, experience, and assessments, and working with the nutrition officers to ensure proper documentation of all aspects of the nutrition interventions;
    • Taking part in the recruitment of staff in collaboration with the HR Manager in the base and the Area Coordinator;
    • Collaborate ACF HR and SPCHDA HR for the recruitment and posting of seconded Health workers at ACF supported health facilities;
    • Support the institutional capacity building engagement DPM on identification of gap for health facilities using HSS lens and planning improvement plans based HSS components;
    • Identifying the teams' training needs on the basis of assessments and in situ observation;
    • Organising and carrying out training sessions for his/her teams taking into consideration their profiles and the cultural context;
    • Arranging joint training sessions for health facility staff covering:
      • protocols and nutritional service offered,
      • the logistical organisation and material aspects of the programme,
      • monitoring and reporting indicators
      • evaluation of the needs revealed by  enquiries undertaken  (nutritional surveys, rapid assessment, screening)
      • care practices and the reception of the beneficiaries and those accompanying them
      • integrating nutrition into the basic health care package
    • Organising and leading meetings with the team and individual staff members, on both a regular and ad hoc basis;
    • Creating and supervising action plans for individual team members;
    • Managing overall planning and the division and coordination of work in collaboration with the nutrition officers;
    • Establishing a programme of staff assessment interviews and organising follow up in collaboration with Human Resources;
    • Lending support to teams in the organisation and coordination of their work;
    • Resolving problems arising in the teams with the support of team supervisors and, when necessary, in consultation with the HR Manager in the base;
    • Assisting with the team members' routine questions (on technical matters relating to malnutrition) and liaising with the DHOD and or the HOD for technical support when required;
    • Managing the safety and security of the project team through the guidance of Safety and security team;
    • Proposing a program operational strategy adapted to the local situation;
    • Sharing his/her analyse of the needs in the area with the Area Coordinator and the Head of Nutrition and Health Department (HOD) and Deputy HOD);
    • Providing relevant inputs to area Coordinator and the DHOD/HOD for the design of proposals with a view to developing shared and integrated approaches;
    • Presenting the programme to partners (the authorities, funding agencies, nutrition and health sector coordination mechanisms etc);
    • Monitoring the budget and targets achieved with reference to the project proposal, and making any necessary adjustments in consultation with the Finance Manager in the base and the Area Coordinator;
    • Contribute monthly budget forecast and budget review including monthly BFU review;
    • Sharing information on a regular basis with the Area Coordinator and the Program Managers in charge of Mental Health and Care Practices, Food Security and Livelihood and Water Sanitation and Hygiene in order to promote the development of an integrated approach;
    • Representing nutritional issues at the level of the programme and the geographical area of intervention in the state and LGA coordination meetings, meetings with the authorities and visits by funding bodies and partners;
    • Identifying partners and other agencies in the area;
    • Developing a framework for communication with local representatives (regular meetings, identification of key local actors and development of collaboration with them) in order to facilitate harmonious and productive relations;
    • Adhering to the terms of agreements signed off with the health and nutrition sectors and partners working in the same field and referring to them regularly to ensure that collaboration follows the lines intended;
    • Ensuring that the relationship established with partners respects the principles and values of the ACF partnership policy (currently being developed: trust, respect, common purpose, complementarity, transparency, mutual dependency and shared learning...);
    • Consolidating and building on experience to ensure the long term maintenance of activities and the spread of good practice;
    • Ensure that all technical reports for external release are validated by relevant line Managers including the Nutrition and Health HOD/DHOD, DCD program, Technical Advisor;
    • Ensure project databases are up to date;
    • Prepares and share for technical review monthly activity progress report (APR) both qualitative and quantitative using ACF standard APR templates validated by Health and Nutrition HoD/DHoD and MEAL team, this should also integrate all indicators to be reported to donors;
    • Finalize the monthly activities reports presented to the State and LGA and Health and Nutrition sectors including 5W matrix;
    • Contribute to project donor reporting in His/her project component;
    • Regularly report and coordinate with line manager regarding challenges, issues faced in the field for timely and appropriate decision-making.

    Position Requirements:

    • Master’s Degree in MPH with strong background in nutrition program planning & management, nutrition in emergency, development studies or other related field with more than 5 years’ experience.  
    • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Public Health, Food science/Technology or other related courses with more than 5 years’ experience in nutrition program management can also apply.
    • Willingness and capacity to be flexible and accommodating when faced with difficult and frustrating working conditions;
    • Prepared to live and work in an uncertain security environment;
    • Three years relevant work experience in a similar position
    • Excellent report writing skills and proficient in Microsoft Office software Skills (Outlook, Excel, Power Point, Word);
    • Fluency in Hausa preferrably;
