Position Overview

The Forklift Operator is responsible for operating forklifts and other material-handling equipment to support warehouse and production activities within the JV facility. The role ensures safe loading, offloading, stacking, movement, and arrangement of materials while maintaining compliance with operational procedures, quality requirements, and EHS standards. The Forklift Operator plays a vital role in supporting smooth material flow, preventing damages, and maintaining accurate inventory movement records.

The position reports to the Warehouse Manager.

Key Accountabilities

• Operate forklifts and material-handling equipment safely to move raw materials, finished goods, and consumables within the warehouse and production areas.
• Load and offload trucks, containers, and pallets in accordance with safe handling procedures and weight limits.
• Stack, arrange, and store materials in designated locations to optimize space and maintain warehouse orderliness.
• Conduct pre-operation and post-operation equipment checks, ensuring forklifts are in safe working condition.
• Report any faults, abnormalities, or safety concerns relating to equipment immediately to the Warehouse Manager or Maintenance team.
• Support physical handling of materials when necessary, including wrapping, labeling, palletizing, and sorting.
• Assist with inventory movement tracking by recording material transfers or confirming stock movement with supervisors.
• Ensure adherence to EHS requirements including speed limits, pedestrian safety, safe lifting, and use of PPE.
• Comply with warehouse SOPs, loading protocols, and quality requirements for material handling.
• Participate in cycle counts, stock verification, and inventory audits by providing accurate material movement information.
• Maintain a clean and orderly work environment, keeping forklift parking and battery charging areas hazard-free.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing material movement efficiency and minimizing product damage.

Experience & Education

• Minimum of secondary school education (SSCE) or equivalent.
• Minimum 1–3 years’ experience operating forklifts in a warehouse or manufacturing environment.
• Ability to operate different types of forklifts (e.g., diesel, electric, counterbalance) is an advantage.
• Basic understanding of stock movement, palletizing, and warehouse operations.

Relevant Certifications:

   Nigerian Primary (Mandatory):

• Valid Forklift Operator Certification issued by a recognized Nigerian training provider
• Basic HSE certification (ISPON or equivalent)

International (Added Advantage):

• OSHA forklift training certification
• Equipment-specific operator training
