    Food Technologist

    About the Role

    • We are seeking a highly skilled and commercially minded Food Technologist to join our growing Food Technology practice. This role is central to delivering innovative, safe, and market-ready food solutions for clients across the food manufacturing value chain in Africa.
    • This is not a routine lab role. It is a client-facing, impact-driven position that blends food science, product development, regulatory expertise, and commercial thinking.
    • You will work across the full product lifecycle—from ideation and formulation to scale-up, regulatory approval, and commercial launch—helping clients transform ideas into successful food products that meet international standards and market demands.

    What You Will Do
    Product Development & Innovation:

    • Lead end-to-end new product development (NPD) projects from concept to commercial launch
    • Develop and improve food formulations using scientific and data-driven approaches
    • Conduct product testing, sensory evaluations, and prototype development
    • Identify cost optimization opportunities without compromising quality or safety
    • Track global food trends and translate insights into product innovation strategies

    Regulatory Compliance & Food Safety:

    • Ensure compliance with NAFDAC, SON, Codex Alimentarius, and other relevant standards
    • Develop and implement HACCP, GMP, and ISO 22000 food safety systems
    • Manage product registration, labelling approval, and regulatory submissions
    • Conduct internal audits and risk assessments to ensure compliance readiness

    Process Design & Manufacturing Support:

    • Design scalable food production processes and workflows
    • Support clients in scaling products from pilot to full production
    • Conduct production facility assessments and process optimisation reviews
    • Develop SOPs for manufacturing, quality control, and laboratory systems

    Client Advisory & Project Delivery:

    • Act as technical lead on client engagements
    • Translate complex scientific outputs into clear commercial recommendations
    • Support client presentations, proposals, and technical documentation
    • Manage project delivery timelines and ensure high-quality execution

    Marketing & Commercial Support:

    • Support product positioning, packaging claims, and go-to-market strategies
    • Validate marketing claims for regulatory compliance
    • Contribute to product documentation and technical content for launches

    Knowledge & Team Development:

    • Stay updated on global food science trends and innovations
    • Document methodologies and best practices across projects
    • Mentor junior team members and research assistants

    What We Are Looking For
    Educational Qualification:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Chemical Engineering, or related field
    • Master’s degree and professional membership (e.g. NIFST) is an advantage

    Experience:

    • 4–6 years of experience in food product development, manufacturing, or food safety
    • Proven experience in end-to-end product development (NPD)
    • Strong understanding of NAFDAC, SON, HACCP, GMP, ISO 22000 frameworks
    • Experience in FMCG, consulting, or multi-client environments is highly desirable

    Technical Skills:

    • Food formulation and product development expertise
    • Laboratory testing and experimental design experience
    • Strong understanding of food processing and scale-up operations
    • Experience with formulation software (e.g. Genesis R&D, ESHA, Nutrium, or similar)
    • Strong data analysis and technical reporting skills
