We seek a highly skilled and detail-oriented Fact-Check Editor to join our editorial team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for verifying information, reviewing investigative and editorial content for accuracy, identifying misinformation/disinformation, and ensuring adherence to the highest standards of journalism and editorial integrity.
The Fact-Check Editor will work closely with researchers, factcheckers, analysts, and the digital team to strengthen the credibility, accuracy, and reliability of published content.
Key Responsibilities
Manage and supervise the daily running of the FactCheckHub newsroom.
Edit, or assign for editing, all content published on factcheckhub.com.
Maintain the FactCheckHub website to ensure its dynamism, user friendliness, security and optimal operation at all times.
Maintain high ethical standards in the FactCheckHub newsroom and taking steps to sanction unethical conduct.
Approve assignments and budgets for all reporters in the FactCheckHub newsroom.
Assist the HR & Admin Department in evaluating the performance of all FactCheckHub newsroom staff.
Evaluate all developed news and content to ensure accuracy and recommend modifications and changes to ensure achievement to all quality standards
Prepare and maintain effective editorial calendars and develop various strategies for all editorial promotions and email campaigns.
Factcheck reports to ensure accuracy, adherence to copyright laws, rid of libel or go against Centre’s policy
Ensure compliance with ICIR workplace policies, especially on non-discrimination, sexual harassment, gender equality, whistleblowing, among others.
Liaise with and manage relationships with FactCheckHub partners, including funding partners and other media or factchecking organisations
Minimum Qualifications/Requirements
BA/BSc degree in Journalism, Mass Communication, Arts or Social Sciences or equivalent media work experience.
Minimum of 3–5 years’ experience in journalism, editing, fact-checking, or investigative reporting.
Must have strong research skills and experience with using Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) tools.
Candidates must have a demonstrable fact-checking portfolio (Include links to published fact-checks in your CV).
Must be able to display good editorial judgement related to the collection and analysis of intelligence, information, especially on mis/disinformation campaigns.
Strong written and communication skills.
Strong organizational skills and a creative thinker with an ability to analyze a wide array of data.
Must be tech-savvy (i.e., understands Google Tools for fact-checking and can easily work with Google Docs, Google Sheet etc)
