    Community Mental Health Worker

    Job Summary

    • Providing optimal preventive and psychosocial aid to people with mental health and psychosocial needs at community level according to MSF principles, standards and procedures in order to provide the most appropriate mental health support for patients

    Responsibilities

    • Conduct brief psychosocial assessments to identify barriers to treatment adherence and psychosocial risk factors.
    • Provide psychoeducation to patients and caregivers on mental health, malnutrition, and coping strategies, in line with MSF guidelines.
    • Conduct psychostimulation and recreational activities in the Ambulatory Therapeutic Feeding/Follow-up Center (ATFC).
    • Collaborate with the medical and psychosocial teams to develop, adapt, and deliver mental health and psychosocial education messages tailored to the needs of caregivers of malnourished children.
    • Identify patients requiring mental health care, provide psychological first aid when appropriate, and refer for further counselling.
    • Ensure that patients attending MSF activities are informed about available MHPSS services and how to access them.
    • Trace caregivers on follow-up care, including defaulters, and support their re-engagement in treatment.
    • Conduct home visits when required to facilitate defaulter tracing, follow-up, or provision of psychoeducation.
    • Support the organization of community outreach activities, awareness sessions, meetings, and support groups in coordination with the team.
    • Collect, maintain, and update monitoring data daily, prepare regular activity reports and share with the supervisor.
    • Participate actively in supervision sessions, team meetings, and training activities, and contribute to continuous quality improvement of MHPSS activities.

    Requirements
    Education:

    • Training in psychological first aid and basic counselling skills is desirable.

    Experience: 

    • Desired experience in community (working with children, caregivers, and vulnerable populations) and/or social work.
    • Preferably coming from the beneficiaries’ community and well accepted

    Language: English and Hausa are essential.

    • Knowledge:
    • Desired knowledge of the affected population
    • Strong communication, organizational and social skills (attentive listening, open attitude, empathy, sensitivity)
    • Capacity to work in a multidisciplinary team

    Nurse Trainer

    Main Purpose

    • Plan, organize, and evaluate project activities related to the training of nurses, nutritional assistants, and nurse aides, in accordance with the protocols established as standards in the paediatric ward, to strengthen the quality and continuity of care and support the implementation of the action plan
    • Structuring training activities over annual plan, with topics tailored to the specific context and to the targeted health‑care staff, while providing both theoretical and practical approaches to support knowledge transfer and the effective application of learning.
    • Based on annual training plan, collaborate closely with medical teams to coordinate medical learning activities that may impact doctors and any others medical teams in the objective to improve quality of care of Ganjuwa hospital and ATFCs

    Job Description
    Training Needs Assessment:

    • Conduct regular assessments & learning needs analysis to identify training gaps and skills deficiencies together with the medical team, to define the learning activities to be included in the continuous professional development
    • In collaboration with the project’s medical team, assesses and prioritises training needs for medical and hospital staff

    Prepare and implement medical training:

    • Design and implement comprehensive annual training programs for all nursing and nursing assistant workers
    • Tailor training sessions together with experts to address specific needs of the hospital, including infection prevention, medical procedures, and patient management.
    • Lead and conduct training sessions, workshops, and simulations for medical /paramedical staff using teaching material provided by MSF, applying relevant teaching methodology for adult learners
    • Responsible for practical training organisation, room, material, participant and attendance list
    • Use a variety of training methods, including classroom teaching, hands-on practice, and e-learning.
    • Provide one-on-one mentoring bed-side teaching to staff as needed to reinforce key skills and knowledge.
    • Ensure that training sessions are interactive, engaging, and supportive of the staff’s learning styles.
    • Co-facilitates trainings with trainers in the project
    • Regularly report on training progress, challenges, and outcomes.
    • Make use of current training validated materials and point out any missing ones for further development with the medical department and L&D
    • Bedside teaching and clinical mentoring for nurses and nurse assistants is the main activity of this position.
    • Deliver the facilitations & simulations sessions for the learners
    • Evaluate the effectiveness of training programs through feedback surveys, skills assessments, and observation.
    • Contributes to the development and implementation of a training schedule for both peak and non‑peak periods, ensuring that each session clearly outlines the training topic, duration, planned dates, and the number and names of participants (Cf annual Plan)
    • Adjust annual training plans based on feedback and ongoing evaluation to ensure continuous improvement

    Requirements
    Education:

    • Registered Nurse degree with significant work experience in paediatric

    Experience:

    • Previous experience with MSF or other NGOs, as well as exposure to work in humanitarian settings or low-resource countries, is highly desirable.
    • Strong mastery of current protocols, with the ability to apply them effectively in the field.
    • Previous professional experience in training or teaching is preferred, ideally in a clinical or humanitarian context.

    Knowledge:

    • Proficiency in computer tools is mandatory (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Internet). Proficiency in the Tembo MSF learning platform or digital learning is an asset.
