    Communications Coordinator

    Job Purpose

    • The Communications Coordinator who reports to the Director, Organisational Effectiveness will lead the Communications Hub and be responsible for the development and implementation of ActionAid Nigeria’s (AAN’s) Communication Strategy; including planning and managing public affairs/relation and publicity in order to influence and inform AAN’s stakeholders, staff, partners and donors.
    • S/he will liaise with and provide support for the different thematic functions at AAN on publications, publicity & press relations to drive the advocacy and campaigns of AAN.

    Specific Responsibilities

    • Coordinate and act as the central communications point for national media activities
    • Develop and implement innovative and effective communication and media strategies for
    • ActionAid Nigeria, including fundraising and marketing projects.
    • Manage documentation and publishing of all AAN manuals, and publications including audiovisuals, and maintain an updated repository for posterity.
    • Build the capacity of AAN staff and partners in understanding, documentation and communicating the progress made in various AAN’s thematic areas.
    • Support the development and strengthening of partnerships among stakeholders, government departments and NGOs for effective collaboration and coordination on strategic national & global concerns.
    • Coordinate the annual review of AAN communications work, including the development of annual reports in print and video formats.
    • Oversee content development for AAN policy influencing, website and other social media platforms.
    • Build and maintain contact with the media, donors and supporters including popular media, influencers, and political circles to raise AAN’s profile.
    • Oversee production of digital and multimedia communications content in line with
    • ActionAid global brand guidelines and donor marking plan.
    • Track, monitor and report AAN communications metrics and use insights for learning.

    Person Specifications
    Education/Qualifications:

    • First Degree in Communications, Social Sciences or Arts / Humanities is essential
    • Masters Degree in relevant field is desirable
    • Membership of Nigeria Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), and Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria (APCON) is desirable
    • Membership of NUJ and other relevant professional bodies is desirable

    Experience:

    • At least 7 years work experience, 4 of which should have been spent in similar role in the development sector is essential
    • Experience managing communication and advocacy projects as well as working with the media is essential
    • Website development/management and digital communications is essential
    • Capacity building experience including training, facilitating, coaching, and mentoring is essential
    • Experience as a media focal person for an organisation/department is desirable

    Impact Assessment and Shared Learning Manager

    Overall Purpose

    • The post holder will be a part of the Country Management Team.
    • S/he will lead and coordinate the operationalisation of effective and appropriate systems and processes for planning, measuring progress and impact, learning and reporting across the organisation.
    • S/he will also provide leadership in meeting Accountability, Learning and Planning System (ALPS) requirements at all levels.

    Specific Duties and Responsibilities
    Technical:
    Planning and Reporting:

    • Promote and support AAI’s Accountability, Learning and Planning (Alps) system and domestication within AAN, partner organisations and communities
    • Lead the process of development and review of strategic documents such as country and programme strategy papers and translate these into departmental/unit plans for operational delivery
    • Coordinate the overall planning processes across the organisation including analysing organisation-wide plans (three-year and operational) to ensure delivery of strategic objectives and prepare gap analysis and gap closure recommendations for review at Country Management Team meetings.
    • Lead on the development of organisation-wide report, management updates and other reports as necessary to ensure accountability across Local Rights Programme (LRP) to other donor funded projects
    • Coordinate the project steering committee meetings convened by the Director of Programmes

    Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning:

    • Work collaboratively with unit Leads to develop systems for monitoring progress against country strategy papers and other strategies
    • Develop standards and tools as well as provide technical advice – guidance, coaching, training - to local and national programme teams and implementing partners on M&E
    • Take a lead on LRP monitoring and evaluation system
    • Coordinate the annual Participatory Review and Reflection process (PRRP) with programme partners and development of Annual Progress Document
    • Responsible for quality control of evaluations, partnership appraisals and peer reviews
    • Ensure that feminist lens, power analysis and rights perspectives are fully incorporated into ActionAid’s planning, monitoring and evaluation processes
    • Ensure implementing partners’ compliance with agreed programme standards including meeting reporting requirements
    • Co-ordinate the operationalization of action research to elicit issues impacting on power, poverty, gender and vulnerability especially from the perspective of the poor and excluded people
    • Actively engage in applied research to increase capacity in the organisation to test theories of change and promote innovation leading to increase impact

    Management Information Systems

    • Provide oversight to the management of the Impact Assessment and Shared Learning unit and the Knowledge Management working group
    • Position Data Management System (DMS) as a core part of meeting the information needs of the organisation in an efficient and cost-effective way
    • Participate in the development and implementation of programme and organisation learning activities of ActionAid Nigeria (AAN)
    • Develop and support the operationalisation of management information systems (MIS) for capturing and managing data including baseline and coverage information, emanating from programme work in the communities

    Human Resources:

    • Ensure performance management and staff development of both direct reports and staff in extended matrix teams
    • Monitor the team’s performance against the agreed organisational standards and ensure that problems are identified and resolved
    • Foster the necessary consultation, communications and good relation with other departments and the entire organisation

    Others:

    • Responsible for Impact Assessment and Shared Learning budget
    • Support the various themes in the development of funding proposals for programme work, especially in definition of progress and impact assessment processes
    • Build and sustain networks with organisations and practitioners working in the areas of impact assessment and shared learning with a view to influencing and learning from approaches and practices beyond AAN
    • Assume any other responsibilities relevant to the position as assigned by line manager.

    Representation:

    Programme Coordinator, Global Organising Leadership Development programme (GOLD)

    Job Purpose and Background

    • ActionAid Nigeria (AAN) together with ActionAid Denmark (AADK) has partnered up on a Global Entity to support youth activism and social movements. The galaxy of activities includes rapid response mechanisms for human rights defenders (HRDs), movement-led action research, capacity building, digital activism, and flexible funding streams to civic formations in their various iterations.
    • AAN plays a major delivery role in the The Global Organising Leadership Development programme (GOLD) and in setting up and reaching the objectives of the Global Entity.
    • The Programme Coordinator will direct the strengthening and support of movements
    • S/he will contribute to the co-creation and implementation of a leadership program for activists, Human Rights Defenders and social movement leaders together with a global team of colleagues in India, Tanzania and Denmark.
    • The Global Organising Leadership Development programme encompasses a variety of approaches with the aim of supporting activists in achieving their goals. The capacity building initiatives are strategically designed to ensure the achievement of the overall longterm outcomes by building and sustaining the ability of movements to push for just, feminist, resilient and green societies.

    About GOLD

    • The programme acknowledges the different needs social movement activists might have and meets these needs by building the core ability of young people to organise their constituencies, setting visions and agree on principles, analyse the contexts they are operating in as well as their own organisational vulnerabilities as a movement, craft strategic plans and mobilise support around their agendas.
    • S/he will serve as an interface between social movements, ActionAid Nigeria and the
    • partners in the Global Entity and the GOLD programme.

    Specific Responsibilities
    Programme Coordinator Role:

    • Co-create the learning content for social movements and activists in close collaboration with the GOLD team in Denmark, Tanzania and India.
    • Encourage and support excluded groups and communities living in marginalization to be effective drivers of their own change
    • Assist movements and organisations in building alliances and platforms.
    • Identify, reach out to and provide support to change agents who organize, and involve the public to actively oppose anti-people policies and seek positive, just solutions.
    • Implement the planned activities under the umbrella of the GOLD programme,
    • Nurture movements of (young) people with the requisite political knowledge and capacity in line with their causes.
    • Monitor, document, and share critical debate around movement issues for Global Entity/Global Organising Leadership Development programme (GOLD) adaptation and management.
    • Facilitate linkage between Activista and other social movements, organising spaces, networks, and mass organisations platforms. Capacity Development
    • Provide continuous support through coaching, support visits, formal, and informal training to emerging and exiting movements in the region.
    • Support capacity development for Activista, other youth platforms and movements.
    • Support capacity building of movements on strategy, tactics and campaigns Documentation, Communication and Reporting
    • Document and share learning from Global Entity/Global Organising Leadership Development programme (GOLD) at national and international forum
    • Ensure Global Entity/Global Organising Leadership Development programme (GOLD) documents are uploaded in the AAN SharePoint, CMS etc.
    • Coordinate the storage, retrieval, and review of Global Entity/Global Organising Leadership Development programme (GOLD) related information
    • Collaborate with other international GOLD colleagues to submit success stories or case studies on lessons learnt for dissemination with the wider audience.
    • Ensure timely implementation of and reporting on agreed activities in the Global Entity/Global Organising Leadership Development programme (GOLD)
    • Participate in AAN programme meetings and share experiences from the field, bringing up issues of general programme nature for collective decision-making.
    • Facilitate the sharing of information among social movements, Global Entity/ Global Organising Leadership Development programme (GOLD) team, and other stakeholders.

    Financial Management:

    • Submit timely financial reports on funds released for activities in compliance with AAN financial reporting requirements.
