    Brewing Operator

    The Key Purpose of this role is to operate and maintain defined brewing equipment and related processes to achieve optimal effectiveness.

    Key Roles and Responsibilities:

    Operating and Process Control

    • Operating equipment in Brewing process areas according to VPO standards 
    • Constantly reviewing process performance against target, and recording short stops and correcting any out of controls using the VPO tools
    • Recording waste and movement of product on the appropriate documentation or information systems. Review trends to identify & resolve problems.

    Maintenance of Plant and Equipment

    • Carrying out autonomous operations as defined for the process areas. 
    • Identify defective plant, and report these through to the Process Artisan or Team Leader to assist with resolution.
    • Assisting the Process Artisan/Machine specialist in executing running repairs on shift.

    Quality Control and Analysis

    • Carrying out the required quality checks and analyses and recording the results on the appropriate information system.
    • The list of quality checks to be executed is contained in the work instructions.
    • React to the results using the VPO tools supplied.

    Communication

    • Actively participate in shift meetings, asking questions to test understanding and contributing suggestions. making use of the action logs to record issues, problems and improvement opportunities.
    • Fully understand the team Dream and contribute in achieving it. 
    • Make use of relevant communication media (e.g. shift logbook) to stay informed and inform others of issues.
    • Complete required hand over to incoming shift team members, ensuring the issues relating to plant performance, quality and maintenance are communicated.

    Problem Solving

    • Where problems occur, use the VPO problem solving tools to resolve and record the issues.

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Min. of OND/B.Sc./HND or equivalent in the Sciences or Engineering.

    Safety and Environment Controller

    The Key Purpose of this role is to provide support to operational and line management to ensure the functioning of a comprehensive and professional Occupational Health and Safety System. Ensuring compliance to Safety & Environment systems, standards and work practices to achieve targets set for the VPO Safety and Environment Pillars (means) in order to achieve Safety & Environment KPI’s/PI's (results).

    Key Roles and Responsibilities

    • Ensuring compliance to the applicable Occupational Health & Safety and Environmental legislation.
    • To monitor and advise on the implementation of the VPO Safety and Environment Pillars in the plant and associated wet depot / warehouse
    • Ensure work place hazards are identified and communicated to all staff
    • Track leading Safety and Environment KPI’s and support interventions to improve
    • Promote awareness of occupational safety and environmental awareness through the VPO Safety and Environment programme
    • Conduct investigations into incidents together with line managers identifying root cause and proposing both corrective and preventative actions
    • Ensure induction of both employees and contractors take place in accordance with standards
    • Ensure the safe execution of capex projects and support safe work practices where required
    • Drive closure of investigations, safety and environment gaps and legal compliance in the plant

    • Ensure the site is adequately secured and the contracted security provider complies with standards
    • Identify safety, environment and legal training needs, conduct training, arrange and co-ordinate where required

    Brewing Lab Specialist

    The Key Purpose of this role is to manage and co-ordinate brewery quality control and to ensure quality analysis is conducted in compliance with company standards and specifications.

    Key Roles and Responsibility

    Quality Management

    • Partake in the development of required quality systems for the brewery, contributing suggestions and providing expert advice
    • implement any required quality system, or changes current systems, ensuring the laboratory teams have the required competencies
    • Ensure that quality goals are incorporated into laboratory team and individual goals
    • audit compliance to the various quality systems by both the laboratory team and shift based production teams.
    • Exercise budgetary controls over the asset care requirements of brewing and utilities plant
    • liaise with Central office around quality, and take part in regional and divisional MDTs

    Quality Control and Analyses

    • Checking and verifying that team members are carrying out quality checks and analyses and recording the information on the appropriate systems
    • Verifies that the quality systems are working properly and that data integrity and information accuracy is being maintained.
    • Responsible for ensuing that laboratory equipment is operating optimally and to identify problems or opportunities timeously
    • Ensure that COT changes to analytical standards are implemented, through additional training where necessary
    • Ensures that COT standards have been adapted to take into account regional specificity, where necessary
    • interacts with COT through various MDT fora as required, ensuring that regional complexities and requirements are properly understood

    Team Leadership

    • Lead the laboratory team in a manner that engenders ownership, empowerment and team interaction
    • Ensuring that the laboratory team understands and adhered to the operational, quality and process standards, work instructions and calibration schedules and performance target
    • Mentoring, supporting and coaching team members in the context execution of their tasks
    • Develop subordinates and ensure training needs are met by carrying our training needs analysis, one-on-one's and performance reviews. Where training needs have been identified, corrective action must be initiated the QC manager must drive performance management practices (e.g. IMP), lead the development of team goals and carry out performance reviews and team goal review sessions
    • Exercise budgetary controls over the laboratory

    Safety and Housekeeping

    • Ensure that the engineering team apply proper safety and housekeeping procedures, and adhere to all legal requirements when carrying out their tasks
    • ensure implementation of the appropriate SAB and legislative policies (Such as OSH act) on safety and housekeeping. Ensure that safety and housekeeping receive appropriate focus through regular checks and safety audits. Where unsafe work practices have been identified, the QC manager is responsible for correcting this.
