    Video Journalist, Hausa

    Job Introduction

    The BBC World Service has grown its multimedia operations in Africa by doubling the number of language services from six to twelve and investing in modern TV and Digital production facilities.  The BBC Hausa’s digital journalism is an expanding field and our ambition is for our content to reach underserved audiences – such as younger and female audiences and more diverse demographics across in West Africa and beyond. 
    We are looking to recruit a video journalist based in Abuja to join the digital team in Nigeria. The journalist will be responsible for gathering and producing original video for our digital platforms.
    This is a  fixed term contract for 6 months.

    Main Responsibilities

    Reporting to  the BBC Hausa Editor, the Video Journalist will be responsible for gathering and producing sharable original video for our digital platforms. You will be required to create short and medium form digital content and remote produce social and digital content produced by reporters so that the final output is of highest quality.  You will be able to build and maintain effective working relationships with a range of people for video gathering in Nigeria and other African countries

    Are you the right candidate?

    • The successful candidate will be an experienced journalist and filmmaker, with a track record in originating, creating and curating social and digital content.  
    • An understanding of African current affairs and the audience needs is important.  
    • You will be able to use FCPX or equivalent video editing software and Photoshop to a high standard.  
    • Fluency in Hausa and English (written and spoken) is essential.
    • The candidate must be a team player and should be ready to adjust to the requirements of  field news reporting if and when required.  A strong editorial and production background is also important.
    • This role is based in Abuja but may require traveling to other locations.
