To drive growth, profitability and quality of Wema Bank's Mining & Solid Minerals portfolio within their assigned regions.
They are accountable for originating and managing strategic client relationships, developing bankable financing opportunities across the mining and minerals value chain and delivering tailored financial solutions that support exploration, extraction, processing, logistics, equipment acquisition, and mineral exports.
Each Team Lead shall, under the strategic direction of the Unit Head, Mining & Solid Minerals Finance, serve as the Bank's primary sector representative within their assigned regions, providing market intelligence, supporting product development initiatives, mentoring their direct reports (Desk officers) and supporting relationship managers to drive sustainable business growth in alignment with the Bank's strategic objectives for the Mining and Solid Minerals sector.
Responsibilities
Subject Matter Expert: Be the lead subject-matter expert on all transactions, proposals, policies and sundry matters pertaining to Mining and the Solid Minerals sector in their region of coverage.
Business Development: Drive and provide specialist support for prospecting, marketing, converting and managing banking relationships and transactions across all segments of the mining and solid minerals value-chain for their region of coverage.
Product Manager: Lead the marketing and management of all mining and solid minerals value chain products and service propositions in their region of coverage.
Credit Structuring, Appraisal and Monitoring: Be the lead desk officer in the appraisal and structuring of credit facilities as well as in the post-disbursement monitoring and management of credit life-cycle for all Mining and Solid Minerals facilities in their region of coverage.
Portfolio Health and Quality Management: Ensure that the Bank’s portfolio of Mining and Solid Minerals Assets in their region of coverage remain healthy and robust by working actively with Field Loan Monitoring Officers/loan Recovery teams in their respective regions.
Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Economics, Banking, Business Administration, Geology, Mining Engineering, or a related discipline.
A master's degree (MBA, MSc, or equivalent) will be an added advantage.
Relevant professional certifications (e.g., CFA, ACCA, ACA, CIS, or risk management certifications) are desirable.
Experience:
8–10 years' relevant banking experience, with significant exposure to Corporate Banking, Commercial Banking, Structured Finance, or Project Finance.
At least 3–5 years' experience managing relationships or financing transactions within the Mining & Solid Minerals sector, Energy, Natural Resources, or related industries.
