Special Educator / Speech Therapist for Learners with Visual Impairments at Candlelight Foundation for Children with Special Needs

Candlelight Foundation for Children with Special Needs is a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering children with special needs, particularly those diagnosed with Autism, Dyslexia, and ADHD. We are committed to providing support, resources, and opportunities for these children to thrive.

We are seeking a qualified and compassionate Teacher or Speech Therapist for Students with Visual Impairments (TVI) to join our multidisciplinary team. The ideal candidate will have experience working with learners who are blind or visually impaired and be skilled in using tactile, auditory, and technological tools to support learning and communication.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and implement individualized education or therapy plans tailored to each student’s sensory and communication needs.
• Utilize tactile symbols, auditory materials, and adaptive technology to enhance learning experiences.
• Promote multi-sensory communication and literacy for students with visual impairments.
• Collaborate closely with parents, caregivers, and other professionals to support holistic development.
• Maintain accurate documentation of student progress and contribute to team meetings and assessments.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Special Education, Speech and Language Therapy, or a related field.
• Specialization or experience in working with students with visual impairments is essential.
• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and experience supporting students who use sign language as part of their communication.
• Must have experience with the use of Braille, tactile learning methods, and adaptive/assistive technologies.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills.
• Empathy, patience, and a genuine commitment to inclusive education.
• Must reside in or be willing to commute to Ajah, Lagos State
