Rope Access Technician, Industrial Rope Access Trade Association (IRATA) at Minim and Tonye Nigeria Limited

Job Description

• The Rope Access Technician is responsible for carrying out inspection, maintenance, and repair work at heights or difficult-to-reach locations using rope access techniques in accordance with IRATA International standards.
• The role ensures tasks are performed safely, efficiently, and with minimal disruption to operations.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform inspection, maintenance, construction, cleaning, painting, rigging, or welding tasks at height using rope access methods.
• Rig and operate rope access equipment in compliance with IRATA and company procedures.
• Assist in installation, inspection, and dismantling of rigging and access systems.
• Report any hazards, unsafe conditions, or equipment defects immediately.
• Carry out tasks such as NDT inspection, blasting/painting, mechanical or electrical work, as assigned.
• Work under the supervision of an IRATA Level 3 Supervisor.
• Maintain accurate records of rope access activities and inspection logs.
• Support multi-disciplinary teams (inspection, mechanical, electrical, painting, etc.).
• Ensure all work meets quality standards and client specifications.

Qualifications & Experience

• Valid IRATA Certification (Level 1, 2, or 3 as applicable).
• Minimum 3–5years’ experience in rope access operations (industrial, offshore, oil & gas, or construction).
• Additional trade certifications desirable (e.g., NDT Level II, Painting/Blasting, Welding, Mechanical, Electrical).
• Offshore survival and medical certificates (BOSIET/HUET).
• Strong knowledge of work-at-height safety regulations and rescue techniques.

Key Skills & Competencies:

• Strong technical skills in trade discipline (inspection, maintenance, construction, etc.).
• Excellent knowledge of rope access techniques and equipment handling.
• Strong focus on safety and situational awareness.
• Team player with good communication skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and in harsh environments (offshore/onshore).
• Physically fit and medically cleared for working at height.

Safety & Compliance:

• Ensure compliance with IRATA International Code of Practice (ICOP) and relevant HSE regulations.
• Conduct pre-use checks of harnesses, ropes, descenders, ascenders, and other PPE.
• Participate actively in toolbox talks, risk assessments, and permit-to-work (PTW) systems.
• Maintain constant communication with team members and supervisors during rope access operations.
• Assist in rescue operations in case of emergency, in accordance with IRATA procedures.
