    Rigger [PH]

    Responsibilities:

    • Climb the full height of the tower for a visual 360-degree inspection of all tower components and tower members in detail, junction/joint plates, nuts, and bolt torque.
    • Check condition of the resting and work platforms, pole mounts, side arms, stand-offs, flush-mounts, sector frames, crow's nests, T-arms, brackets etc. and verify the functionality of the lightning (Aviation warning light, Security light) protection system.
    • Inspect the tower base and surrounding area for parts that have fallen to the ground (nuts, bolts, members, clamps, etc.) and check for any other indications that parts may have come loose or fallen from the structure.
    • Verify that the members and components on the tower are in place and retain a photographic record of the various sections of the tower covering the full tower. For clarity, IHS Engineering & Design accepts photos of each section instead of each component or member.
    • Torque all nuts and bolts using a calibrated torque wrench. Mark torqued nuts with black permanent marker during tower maintenance for purposes of verification to ensure all bolts have been torqued accordingly. Submit 8No. Photos of torqued nuts for each size and new torqued values should be included in the tower maintenance report (Torquing must be done whenever nuts, bolts or tower members are replaced with new ones).
    • During the tower maintenance visit, conduct a full tower member and load audit as part of the tower mapping exercise and issue a report in accordance with the IHS Nigeria Ltd standard reporting template. Riggers shall flag tower loading variations between previous tower mapping/loading report and current tower mapping/loading report and verify that all customer equipment (antennas) in accordance with the previous tower maintenance/inspection report are positioned at the specific position on the tower. Flag any changes in the position of customer equipment (antennas) and report any missing tower members, nuts, or bolts.
    • v Visually inspect the tower protection coating (galvanizing or paint) for any signs of deterioration or spots of local corrosion. Rectify small areas of corrosion using zinc-based paint, check for widespread deterioration as this may be indicative of a more serious problem, check for cracks in the protection around joints in the members, nuts, or bolts as these are a potential indication of tower movement and should be investigated thoroughly for further signs of any problem.
    • Check for bent or missing or defective members and report in writing to IHS Engineering & Design. If any such serious problem is identified during tower maintenance, the Contractor shall apply a temporary solution whilst liaising with IHS Engineering & Design for long-term resolution.
    • For guyed towers, the rigger shall inspect anchor bolts, wires (strands), trim trees or get rid of other obstructions and record findings of any unusual signs observed around the guyed wires, turnbuckle hooks, bolts and nuts, concrete areas/surfaces, ensure that water does not pond around the metallic guy anchor terminations and provide photographic evidence.
    • Check that the tower structure components are not oxidized, ensure that the access ladder is in good condition. Report if found defective or not installed, ensure that all safety components are present and complete, ensure that the fall arrest system is functioning properly. Report if found defective or not installed, ensure that the anti-climbing door on the site perimeter fence is functioning properly. Report if found defective or not installed.
    • Clear any birds nest or other dangerous animals, including but not limited to bees, wasps, and snakes (if found) on the tower and/or site as part of the maintenance inspection, clean spider webs and other waste in and around the tower, cable trays and cable ladder.
    • Inspect cable trays and cable ladder between equipment room and/or shelter and tower to ensure that they are in good condition, inspect antenna supports/fixtures structures to confirm stability and adequate continued serviceability, loose or hanging members shall be re-installed and properly fastened, check for signs of movements at connections including base plates, cracks in the galvanization or paint around connections are a potential indication of tower movement and shall be investigated thoroughly.
    • Inspect rooftop sites (i.e., monopoles or lattice structures supported on the roof of the building structure, wall-mounted poles, etc.) considering the antenna access, anchorage to host structure, rooftop structure, active equipment physical status, feeder lines protection/support, cable trays and covers. Loose cable tray covers shall be secured with stainless steel banding/strapping.

    Qualifications:

    • Minimum 3-5 years of experience as a Telecommunications Tower Rigger or related field.
    • Proven ability to safely climb and work at heights.
    • Possession of a valid Rigger Certification and HSE 1&2.
    • Strong understanding of tower construction, components, and safety protocols.
    • Excellent attention to detail and ability to identify potential problems.
    • Effective communication and documentation skills.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Valid driver's license
