    Protection Assistant

    LOCATION: NGALA, BORNO STATE

    ABOUT THE JOB:

    EYN, in Partnership with CARE International, is implementing a protection program featuring strengthening the community-based structures, capacity strengthening, protection monitoring, and dissemination of information for effective referral services. EYN and CARE International intend to build the capacity of government institutions and local communities around protection mainstreaming and monitoring. The protection program is currently implemented in Ngala LGA of Borno State.  

    Under the overall supervision of the GBV/Protection Coordinator, the Protection Assistant will work extensively with other sectors and sister organizations to ensure that protection guiding principles are being incorporated and implemented into the program. The Protection Assistant will, in her duties, conduct protection monitoring in the target areas and conduct case intake for individual protection cases as the need arises. The Protection Assistant will support the GBV/Protection Officer in ensuring the smooth formation and running of community-based protection structures and mechanisms capacity to strengthen community-based protection structures. The Protection Assistant will serve as the focal point for the identification, registration, and provision of individual targeted assistance to extremely vulnerable individuals in the community of implementation.

    MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The Protection Assistant will be responsible for the following, including those not listed but are extensions of those expressly stated:

    • Led the team in identifying the most vulnerable individuals in target communities and highly vulnerable individuals in need of urgent assistance by using standardized criteria.
    • Coordinate with the GBV/Protection Officer to identify the form of targeted assistance to provide to highly vulnerable individuals.
    • To provide the most immediate needs of persons or individuals with support with available resources through the provision of tailored assistance.
    • Coordinate and Support the GVB/Protection Officer in establishing and overseeing community-based protection mechanisms/structures.
    • Assist the Community Engagement Officer in community mobilization, awareness creation, and information dissemination activities.
    • Assist and support the GBV/Protection Officer in monitoring activities in target areas of implementation.
    • Assist the GBV/Protection Coordinator in planning, organizing, and implementing training at the community level.
    • Support the GBV/Officer in identifying key protection issues, concerns, and threats in target communities
    • Refer identified cases to the GBV/Protection for further specialized action and consideration.
    • Participate in data collection, screening, and assessments such as needs assessments, baseline surveys, etc.
    • Assist and support the GBV/Protection Officer in consolidating weekly, monthly, and other program reports as needed.
    • Ensure proper records of all individual targeted assistance activities and assist in keeping records of community-based protection activities.
    • Ensure good quality pictures with consent and submit them to the reporting database.
    • Attend regular Protection sector coordination meetings
    • Any other duties that may be assigned

    Qualification:

    • University degree in Law, International Development, or any other social sciences.
    • Has two (2) years of experience implementing protection programs, including managing projects during emergencies or post-conflict.
    • Demonstrated experience using international human rights standards in protection programming

    • Experience in working in remote and hard-to-reach areas with limited amenities.
    • Strong computer skills require (word and excel).
    • Excellent communication skills and a willingness to be respectful, kind, sensitive, and empathize with all beneficiaries and their career experience in GBVIMS and case management.
    • Flexible and willing to work and stay in the community of implementation
    • Excellent interpersonal skills to establish effective working relationships with all staff and internal and external stakeholders.
    • Willingness and readiness to take the initiative in their work, identify problems, and make suggestions for practical solutions.
    • Proven capacity for management and leadership
    • Demonstrable ability at report writing
    • Experience in Kanuri and Hausa languages is highly desirable
    • Computer literacy
    • Excellent presentation skills.
    • A critical thinker with outstanding interpersonal skills.
