The Operations & Reconciliation Officer is responsible for executing day-to-day operational processes and ensuring accurate and timely reconciliation of financial transactions and accounts across the group and subsidiaries. The role supports the integrity of financial records, mitigates operational risk, and ensures that all transactions are properly captured, reconciled, and resolved in line with internal controls and regulatory requirements. The position plays a critical role in transaction accuracy, control assurance, and operational efficiency within the organization.
Job Details
Transaction Processing & Operations Support
- Execute and support daily operational activities, including transaction posting, settlement, and processing of financial instruments.
- Ensure all transactions are accurately captured in core systems and supporting schedules.
- Liaise with internal teams (Front Office, Treasury, Finance) to resolve transaction-related issues.
- Maintain proper documentation and audit trails for all operational activities.
Reconciliations & Control Assurance
- Perform routine reconciliations of bank accounts, settlement accounts, suspense accounts, and control accounts across the group and subsidiaries.
- Reconcile internal records against external statements (banks, custodians, counterparties, clearing houses).
- Ensure unreconciled items are tracked, aged, and resolved within approved timelines.
Exception Management & Issue Resolution
- Identify operational discrepancies, posting errors, and unusual transactions.
- Investigate root causes of anomalies and recommend corrective actions.
- Escalate unresolved or high-risk exceptions in line with escalation procedures.
- Support remediation of recurring operational or reconciliation issues.
Reporting & Documentation
- Prepare reconciliation reports, exception logs, and operational summaries for management review.
- Maintain accurate reconciliation schedules and working papers.
- Support month-end and year-end close processes by ensuring reconciliations are completed and signed off on time.
- Provide information and documentation required for internal and external audits.
Compliance, Controls & Risk Management
- Ensure strict adherence to approved operational procedures, controls, and policies.
- Support compliance with regulatory requirements and internal control standards.
- Assist in implementing control improvements to reduce operational and reconciliation risks.
- Flag control weaknesses and process gaps to management.
Process Improvement & Operational Efficiency
- Identify opportunities to improve reconciliation processes, reduce manual intervention, and enhance efficiency.
- Support automation and system improvements where applicable.
- Participate in system upgrades, process reviews, and operational projects.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Banking, Economics, or related discipline.
- Professional qualifications (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or part-qualification) is an advantage.
- 2–5 years’ experience in operations, reconciliations, back office, or finance roles within a financial services environment.
- Experience in banking, securities, asset management, or fintech operations is an advantage.
