    Nutrition Assistant

    Job Purpose

    • The objectives of the project are to improve the nutritional status of children under five through effective management of Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM), provide Tom Brown supplementation to vulnerable households and malnourished children as a preventive and supportive nutrition intervention, strengthen early detection and referral systems for malnutrition through regular community-based screening, and promote optimal MIYCF practices among caregivers to prevent malnutrition.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Support implementation of nutrition activities in line with programme standards.
    • Conduct community screening, enrolment, follow-up, and growth monitoring of beneficiaries.
    • Perform MUAC screening and ensure appropriate identification and referral of MAM and SAM cases.
    • Support OTP services, including admission, follow-up, and discharge under supervision.
    • Assist in distribution and proper management of RUTF and other nutrition supplies.
    • Support preparation and distribution of Tom Brown at community level.
    • Promote MIYCN practices through caregiver engagement and community sensitization.
    • Train and support CNMs, health workers, and Lead Mothers on key nutrition interventions.
    • Provide supportive supervision to community structures and ensure submission of weekly reports by Lead Mothers.
    • Conduct home visits for follow-up, defaulter tracing, and case monitoring.
    • Ensure accurate data collection, documentation, and reporting of activities.
    • Support coordination with health facilities and community stakeholders.
    • Report challenges and perform any other assigned duties to support programme implementation.

    Education and experience 

    • A minimum of Diploma or bachelor’s degree in nutrition, Public Health, Nursing, or a related field.
    • At least 1–2 years of experience in IMAM/CMAM programme implementation.
    • Experience working with community health workers, CNMs, or volunteers in nutrition programmes.
    • Basic understanding of national nutrition guidelines, MIYCF, Tom-Brown, SAM, and IMAM approaches. and a good communication, interpersonal, and facilitation skills.
    • Basic organizational and reporting skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office.
    • Fluency in English and at least one relevant local language.
    • Previous experience in humanitarian or development settings is an added advantage.
