    Nurse Educator

    Job Description

     

    WBFA is seeking a highly motivated, results-oriented individual with strong analytical, professional and creative acumen to fill the Nurse Educator role. The ideal candidate will have a strong and proven track record that will help make a real difference in society in providing direct clinical, reproductive and neonatal health services.  She/He will will directly with mothers in health care facilities. Whilst, ensuring the provision of services in Infant and Young Child Nutrition (IYC), Antenatal Care (ANC) Postnatal Care, (PNC), Emergency Obstetrics and Neonatal Care (EmONC), etc. The Nurse Educator will lead in engagement with adolescents in schools and communities and lead in the education on Water Sanitation and Hygiene education.

     

    Key Responsibilities

    • Provide direct clinical reproductive and neonatal health services, forming the core of the Foundation’s flagship MamaCare360 program. The services include Provision of services in Infant and Young Child nutrition (IYC), Antenatal Care (ANC) Postnatal Care, (PNC), Emergency Obstetrics and Neonatal Care (EmONC) etc.
    • Educate the adolescents in communities and schools, on WASH, increase and establish relationship with communities and key stakeholders.
    • Development and application of community-based health strategies with focus on reproductive health services.
    • Promote Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) best practices as per international and WBFA minimum standards to women and infants.
    • Support community health workers to provide outreach services such as birth records, neonatal and maternal mortality records.
    • Promote the sexual and reproductive health rights of Adolescents, ensuring access to quality health services based on the health toolkit developed by WBFA.
    • Work with technical support and M&E teams to collect appropriate baseline data of programs.
    • Ensure adequate infection prevention and control measures are maintained in all facilities at all times.
    • Lead and advocate for quality healthcare in all facilities and communities.
    • Maintain and develop collaborative relationships with heads of governments and health facilities as well as supervise, train and coach clinical staff.
    • Prepare weekly and monthly report of activities, including data collation.
    • Supervise Community Mobilizers/ Data and Communities Assistants
    • Ensure proper documentation and writing of reports ensuring quality and timely reporting
    • Work with technical support and M&E teams to collect appropriate baseline and edline data of programs.
    • Maintain and develop collaborative relationships with heads of governments and health facilities and supervise train, and coach clinical staff.
    • Prepare weekly and monthly reports of activities, including data collation.
    • Provide audio-visual content from all activities carried out
    • Network and coordinate with the relevant sectors (communities, other INGOs, Ministry of Health, Water Resources, Environment, Community Leaders, and Schools, etc)
    • Carry out sensitizations on Key WASH Hygiene Messages and education.
    • The duties and responsibilities as set out above are not exhaustive and the role holder may be required to carry out additional duties within reasonableness of their level of skills and experience.

    Qualification and Experience

    • Registered Nurse (RN), Registered Midwife (RM), Bachelor of Nursing Science (B. NSc.)
    • Minimum of 2 year of working experience in either Nursing or Midwife capacity.

    Essential:

    •  Ability to communicate in English, and Hausa
    • Good understanding of WASH, Sexual, Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child, and Adolescent Health and Nutrition (SRMNCAH+N) and WASH.
    •  Computer knowledge is an added advantage.
    •  Strong interpersonal and communication skills with children will be an added advantage.
    •  Be able to prioritize tasks.
    • Able to work to tight deadlines and under pressure.
    • Experience with community development, working with children and schools, nursing mothers and pregnant women.
    • Very good communication and interpersonal skills.
    • The ability to think critically and to recommend good solutions to problems.
    • Strong Organizational skills.
    • Ability to conduct outreach at the community level and schools.
