We are seeking an experienced Mines Engineer to oversee and optimize mining operations, ensuring safe, efficient, and cost-effective extraction of underground and open-pit resources.
The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing new mining sites, developing extraction plans, monitoring performance, and ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards.
This role requires strong technical expertise, analytical skills, and leadership ability to drive operational excellence while managing budgets and resources effectively.
Key Responsibilities
Ensure underground, highwall, and open-pit materials are extracted safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company standards.
Assess the feasibility and commercial viability of new mining sites, providing detailed reports and recommendations.
Identify and evaluate extraction risks, implementing preventive measures to minimize hazards.
Develop models, plans, and designs for potential mining sites using advanced engineering techniques.
Plan and implement extraction systems that maximize productivity and resource utilization.
Utilize specialist computer applications and mining software to enhance planning, monitoring, and production efficiency.
Monitor and evaluate mining performance, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions.
Ensure strict adherence to health, safety, and environmental regulations across all mining operations.
Verify that all mining equipment is safe, well-maintained, and fit for purpose.
Manage operational budgets, ensuring cost-effective delivery of mining projects.
Provide leadership and guidance to mining teams, fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Prepare technical reports and present findings to senior management and stakeholders.
Baseline Competency Requirements
Education: B.Sc. in Mining Engineering or a related discipline.
Experience: Minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience in mining operations, with proven expertise in underground and open-pit mining.
Technical Knowledge: In-depth understanding of mining principles, practices, and extraction systems.
Leadership Skills: Strong personnel management abilities, with experience supervising teams in mining environments.
