    Mechanical & Piping Consultant Engineer

    Job Objectives

    • To oversee, review, and consolidate independent field verification data and technically evaluate mechanical and piping variations, contract baselines, and final accounts. The role acts as the primary analytical bridge between raw on-site technical inspection data (60% site presence) and the generation of the sound audit reports (40% office presence) delivered directly to the Lead Auditor to protect the Employer against unjustified financial exposure or unjustified overrun costs.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Lead on-site physical auditing of rotating and plant equipment installation, static equipment alignment, and process piping networks to verify actual progress against contractor claims.
    • Supervise and sign off on the field progress quantities, welding visual inspections, and other inspection performed by the Associate Mechanical Engineers.
    • Direct field spot-checks on system hydrotests, and material laydown traceability logs to ensure contractor invoices perfectly map to physical field boundaries.
    • Audit and approve photographic and video records compiled by the Associate Mechanical Engineers to ensure auditrule compliance and tracability for the Document Control Center (DC).
    • Collaborate directly with the Quantity Surveying Team , the Contract Manager , and Quality & Audit Manager to convert technical field anomalies into formal commercial dispute defenses.
    • Conduct technical evaluations of IFC drawings, contract Bills of Quantities (BOQ), and project specifications to detect variations and unauthorized design changes.
    • Critically evaluate and technically challenge the engineering basis for variation claims submitted by contractors, verifying their validity against contract terms.
    • Review and Evaluate and precomissioning packages for contractors who have completed their mechanical and piping scopes of work.
    • Compile, analyze, and draft professional Daily Reports, Weekly Progress, and Monthly Audits Reports, detailing non-conformity impacts, and contract validation opinions for submission to the Lead Mechanical Auditor.
    • Collaborate directly with the Quantity Surveying Team , the Contract Manager , and Quality & Audit Manager to convert technical field anomalies into formal commercial dispute defenses.

    Work Conditions

    • Heavy industrial construction site within the Dangote Free Zone. Must be willing to walk across the site, including active swampy / reclaimed areas, elevated platforms, and confined spaces.
    • Basic PPE (safety shoes, helmets, gloves, goggles) are required at site.
    • Standard project hours, but must be flexible to align with contractor shift patterns for critical audit verifications (e.g., nighttime hydro-tests)

    KPI's

    • 100% of Daily, Weekly, and Monthly Technical Audit reports compiled, finalized, and pushed to the Lead Auditor within agreed contractual reporting windows.
    • Measurable financial savings achieved for the Employer by identifying and successfully throwing out unsupported or unverified contractor reported progress or variation claims.
    • 100% of consolidated audit packages containing verified field data, physical measurements, and photographic back-ups matching the standards of 3rd party scrutiny.
    • Zero-defect tolerances on baseline quantity verifications executed under supervision by reporting Associate Mechanical Engineers.

    CORE COMPETENCIES (BEHAVIORAL & TECHNICAL)

    • Advanced capability to connect technical discrepancies on the field to contract liabilities and financial exposure in the office.
    • Proven psychological resilience to withstand contractor commercial pressures, maintaining absolute impartiality and ethical reporting standards
    • Elite capability to communicate complex mechanical engineering anomalies into clear, concise, and professional executive audit reports.
