Our client is a key player in the agricultural production sector in Ogun State. They are looking for a motivated mechanical engineer to ensure the continuous operation of its processing line. The ideal candidate is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of all mechanical equipment in the plantain flour factory. The role ensures maximum equipment uptime, safe operations, and optimal performance of processing lines to support the company’s daily production targets.
ROLE MISSION
- Ensure continuous and reliable operation of all mechanical systems in a plantain flour processing facility by executing preventive maintenance, rapid breakdown recovery, and equipment reliability improvements.
- This role exists to protect production uptime and output continuity, not just repair equipment.
CORE OUTCOME RESPONSIBILITY
The Mechanical Maintenance Engineer is accountable for:
- ≥95% mechanical equipment uptime across production lines
- Rapid restoration of equipment after breakdowns
- Execution of preventive maintenance schedules without deviation
- Reduction in repeat failures through root cause correction
- Safe and compliant operation of all mechanical systems
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Preventive & Corrective Maintenance
- Execute preventive maintenance across all mechanical systems:
- pulverizers
- dryers
- mills
- conveyors
- packaging machines
- pumps
- boilers (mechanical interface)
- Perform corrective maintenance and emergency repairs to minimize downtime
- Ensure breakdown response is fast, structured, and permanent (not temporary fixes)
- Breakdown Diagnosis & Root Cause Resolution
- Diagnose mechanical faults under production pressure
- Identify root causes of repeated equipment failures
- Implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence
- Document failure patterns and recommend engineering improvements
Installation & Commissioning
- Supervise installation and alignment of new equipment
- Ensure proper commissioning before handover to production
- Verify mechanical integrity and operational readiness
Preventive Maintenance System Execution
- Follow structured maintenance schedules (daily, weekly, monthly)
- Ensure full compliance with maintenance plans
- Report deviations or skipped maintenance immediately
- Contribute to improvement of maintenance schedules based on field reality
- Spare Parts & Equipment Reliability Support
- Monitor spare parts usage and failure patterns
- Liaise with procurement to ensure critical parts availability
- Identify high-failure components and recommend stocking priorities
- Reduce downtime caused by spare parts delays
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Work closely with:
- Production team (machine uptime and operator issues)
- Electrical engineers (system integration issues)
- QA team (equipment hygiene and contamination risk interface)
- Ensure smooth coordination during breakdowns and maintenance shutdowns
Safety & Compliance
- Enforce safe use of tools, machinery, and workshop practices
- Ensure compliance with factory safety standards
- Prevent unsafe equipment from returning to production line
- Maintain safe working conditions during maintenance operations
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate maintenance logs:
- breakdown reports
- repair actions
- parts replaced
- downtime duration and causes
- Ensure traceability of all maintenance work
- Support audit readiness where required
- Operator Training & Basic Maintenance Support
- Train machine operators on basic equipment care:
- cleaning routines
- early fault detection
- safe operation practices
- Reduce operator-induced breakdowns
Hard Requirements
- HND or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- 3–5 years hands-on mechanical maintenance experience in:
- FMCG manufacturing OR
- agro-processing OR
- continuous production environments
