Job Roles and Responsibilities
Community-Based Legal Assistance
- Support beneficiaries in understanding and navigating issues related to civil documentation, legal identity, and housing or land disputes.
- Assist in documenting and referring protection cases related to property loss, eviction, documentation gaps, or abuse.
- Accompany beneficiaries to legal institutions, civil registry offices, or local authorities to resolve issues.
Awareness and Legal Education
- Assist in organizing and delivering community awareness sessions on legal rights, civil documentation, and protection-related issues.
- Share relevant information in culturally appropriate and inclusive ways, using local languages where needed.
- Promote the inclusion of women, youth, and marginalized groups in awareness activities.
Documentation and Case Follow-up
- Maintain detailed and confidential records of legal cases, support actions, and outcomes.
- Follow up on referred cases and ensure that beneficiaries receive timely support.
- Contribute to the preparation of reports, case studies, and lessons learned.
Community Engagement and Coordination
- Engage regularly with traditional leaders, community focal persons, and local stakeholders.
- Act as a liaison between NRM and the community on legal protection matters.
- Identify emerging protection needs and escalate them to the Protection Legal Technical Officer or Technical Officer.
Team Support and Learning
- Participate in team meetings, trainings, and capacity-building activities.
- Support other team members and community volunteers to ensure quality service delivery.
- Share field-level feedback to help improve programming.
Requirements
- National Diploma, NCE, or Certificate in Law, Social Sciences, Community Development, or related field.
- Minimum of 2 year experience in legal, protection, or humanitarian assistance work (especially in displacement or rights-based programming).
- Basic understanding of Nigerian civil documentation systems and protection principles.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, especially in working with vulnerable populations.
- Fluency in English and local languages (e.g. Hausa, Marghi, Fulfulde) is an added advantage.
- Willingness to work in rural communities and travel between Michika and Madagali.
- Basic computer literacy (MS Word, Excel) is desirable.
