    Legal Officer

    Job Description

    • Negotiate, draft, review and advise upon, all required legal documentation in relation to real estate matters, including leases (commercial, residential and retail) facilities management agreements, property management agreements, assignment agreement, settlement agreements, MOUs, Title documents and other documents.
    • Evaluating all relevant legal documents
    • Represent the company in legal proceedings
    • Assist with review of new contracts as well as service level agreements or changes to existing contracts with clients and partners.
    • Liaising with external solicitors to ensure efficient and successful closure to litigation matters.
    • Handles all real estate related legal issues, including transfers of titles and deeds, construction, mortgage concerns Handling all police affairs where applicable for the company.
    • Undertaking searches in Land Registry.
    • Representing the company in court or before government agencies.
    • Searching for and examining public and other legal records to write opinions or establish ownership.
    • Review and follow up on all ongoing cases and advise management accordingly
    • Liaising with the external solicitor and take ownership of the company's legal activities
    • Review and advise management on the legal implications of internal policies and procedures.
    • Guide management on regulatory and compliance issues to ensure compliance with legal regulations.
    • Evaluate new business partnerships with vendors and subcontractors.
    • Monitor the maintenance of the registers and other records required to be maintained by the Company under the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA).
    • Work closely with clients to ensure that their property transaction goes smoothly and that all paperwork is filed according to legal requirements.
    • Handling all files and documents related to government agencies.
    • Receiving and replying to emails on behalf of the company.
    • Compilation and service of statutory notices.
    • Attending company meetings that involve compliance and legal implications, including transactions, negotiations and Board meeting.
    • Follow up and ensure, all approvals and necessary documentation are perfected at the government level.
    • Ensure (internal & external) compliance with laid down guidelines, policies and procedures; investigate issues of non-compliance as may be required.
    • Protect the company against legal risks and violations
    • Perform other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the estate.

    Requirements:

    • Minimum academic qualification LL.B (Second Class Upper Division, 2.1)
    • Minimum 8 years post Bar qualification
    • LLM will be an added advantage
    • Minimum of 6 years experience in real estate and property law, Litigation and Corporate Law.
    • Must have an extensive legal background, as well as business acumen, financial expertise and specific real estate knowledge.
    • Thorough knowledge of property law and practice, contract documentaion and litigation.
    • An analytical thinker.
    • Effective communicator, Excellent interpersonal & negotiation skills.
    • Ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion.
    • Sound knowledge of Microsoft office applications especially Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
    • Excellent team working ability to ensure smooth operation in the Legal Unit as a whole.
