    Lead / Principal Quantity Surveyor

    Job Summary

    • The Lead / Principal Quantity Surveyor is responsible for overseeing the commercial and contractual management of large-scale or complex construction and infrastructure projects. This senior-level role involves leading a team of quantity surveyors, providing strategic cost and contract advice, and ensuring value for money throughout the project lifecycle. The role requires strong leadership, commercial acumen, and deep knowledge of contract law, cost management, and procurement processes.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Lead and manage quantity surveying functions across one or more major projects or programs.
    • Provide strategic advice on procurement, cost planning, risk management, and contract administration.
    • Develop, manage, and monitor project budgets, cost forecasts, and commercial strategies.
    • Ensure the preparation of accurate cost estimates, bills of quantities (BOQ), and tender documentation.
    • Lead contract negotiations, administration, and compliance with contract terms (e.g., NEC, FIDIC, JCT).
    • Evaluate and manage variations, claims, and disputes in accordance with contractual and legal frameworks.
    • Review and approve contractor and supplier valuations, progress payments, and final accounts.
    • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior and intermediate QS staff.
    • Collaborate with stakeholders including clients, contractors, consultants, and project teams.
    • Prepare and present commercial reports and cost performance dashboards to senior management.
    • Support project audits, risk assessments, and value engineering exercises.

    Qualifications:

    Education:

    • B.Sc. / B. Eng / HND in Quantity Surveying.
    • Professional certification (e.g., CCP – Certified Cost Professional/CEP – Certified Estimating Professional)/ NIQS is preferred.

    Experience:

    • Minimum 15 years of relevant experience, with at least 3–5 years in a senior or lead QS role.
    • Proven track record in delivering commercial management on large-scale or complex projects.

    Skills:

    • Deep understanding of construction contracts (e.g., NEC, FIDIC, JCT).
    • Strong negotiation, analytical, and financial skills.
    • Excellent leadership and team management capabilities.
    • Proficient in QS software (e.g., CostX, CATO, Bluebeam) and MS Office.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
