    Improvement Coach Instructor(Kaduna)

    Background

    • Project Aisha, a consortium with HSDF, Ingress Health Partners, mDoc Healthcare Ltd, and the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, aims to reduce maternal deaths by 15%, improve maternal health outcomes and strengthen the system to ensure care is more responsive to women’s needs, in Lagos and Kaduna, Nigeria. IHI will be providing an Improvement Coach Program as well as Leadership Training in Kaduna.

    Objectives

    • IHI seeks to find an Instructor to conduct and facilitate the Improvement Coach Program in Kaduna as well as the Leadership Training. Project Aisha is looking for someone with prior QI experience who will be leading the collaboration with the partners, providing coaching support, leading the learning sessions, Improvement coach program, and Leadership training

    Position Responsibilities
    The Instructor will be responsible for the following:

    • Attend Prep and Debrief Calls with the team as needed (Begins prior to launch of the program and continues throughout the duration of the program)
    • Attend an Internal Kick-Off Call
    • Work with IHI staff to develop training materials for both the Improvement Coach Program and the Leadership Training
      • Become familiar with IHI content and co-deliver with other partners on the ground
      • Attend meetings with UK/US-based staff as needed for material development meetings
    • Conduct and facilitate the Improvement Coach Program workshop events (these will be in person)
      • Act as the IHI point of contact for any questions from participants from these events
      • Facilitate in-person coaching sessions for teams that most need it
      • Review data from teams and provide guidance remotely and/or in person

    Deliverables

    • Monthly report of activities
    • Development and/or co-development of project materials as needed, including reports, presentations, training materials, evaluations, etc.
    • Maintenance of project documents and records on Microsoft SharePoint
    • Development and dissemination of content related to project activities within IHI and its networks

    Timing and Level of Effort:

    • The faculty is projected to commit 5 working days (40 working hours) each month to the project, beginning March 1, 2023 to August 30, 2023.
    • The faculty is expected to be able to travel to Kaduna to conduct the in-person Improvement Coach and Leadership training. Dates to be determined.

    Reporting and Communication:

    • The Instructor will report to IHI’s Project Manager.

    Qualifications
    Education & Experience:

    Expertise:

    • Strong knowledge of Quality Improvement principles and processes with demonstrated experience applying QI in past work.
    • Strong facilitation skills, with experience in teaching QI and/or leadership principles preferred.
    • Strong project management skills, including being detail-focused and managing toward aggressive timelines.
    • Ability to think strategically, understand the big picture, and proactively identify next steps.
    • Ability to optimize systems and resources to achieve results.
    • Ability to navigate difficult situations, including seeking input, escalation, and problem-solving.
    • Ability to work independently, using best judgment on when to make decisions for oneself and when to seek input from supervisors and other team members.
    • Ability to manage up and adapt approaches to meet project goals.
    • Strong knowledge of inclusion and equity principles, particularly as they apply to women, youth, and other marginalized communities.
    • Knowledge of or experience in public health and/or health care is highly desirable.
    • Knowledge of or experience in adult education activities is highly desirable.

    Other:

    • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
    • Must be willing and able to travel to Kaduna
    • Effective decision-making skills.
    • Willingness to undertake tasks at all levels when necessary.
    • Ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced, sometimes ambiguous environment.
    • Ability to learn and use new systems and technology.
    • Comfort working with a diverse range of stakeholders, including government officials, academic instructors, community members, and local and international project staff.
    • Must be willing to commit to the full project period.
