    History and Global Perspectives Teacher

    JOB PURPOSE

    • To deliver high-quality teaching and learning in History and Global Perspectives, developing students’ historical understanding, critical thinking, research, communication, and global awareness skills while fostering curiosity, inquiry, and engagement with local and international issues.

    OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE

    • The History and Global Perspectives Teacher is responsible for teaching History and Global Perspectives to students across various age ranges and abilities, promoting analytical thinking, cultural awareness, independent research, and responsible global citizenship, while contributing to the wider humanities curriculum.

    RELATIONSHIPS

    • The History and Global Perspectives Teacher is selected by the Director of Schools in consultation with the HOS/KSC and HR.
    • The History and Global Perspectives Teacher will report directly to the KS Coordinator. However, in the absence of the KSC, he/she will report to the HOS/DHOS who will also provide strategic leadership and day-to-day oversight. The teacher works closely with other teachers, support staff (SEN), students, and collaborates with parents/guardians, external examination boards, and educational resource providers where required.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Design and implement well-structured, engaging, and differentiated lessons in History and Global Perspectives that cater to students with diverse learning needs and abilities.
    • Regularly evaluate students’ historical understanding, research skills, critical thinking, and communication through formative and summative assessments, providing timely and constructive feedback.
    • Contribute to the development, implementation, and periodic review of the History and Global Perspectives curriculum, ensuring alignment with the school’s educational objectives and external examination requirements.
    • Encourage students to investigate local and global issues, analyse different perspectives, evaluate evidence, and develop informed opinions through discussions, projects, and debates.
    • Organise and lead activities such as debates, Model United Nations, exhibitions, cultural events, history clubs, or research projects to extend learning beyond the classroom.
    • Maintain a well-organised, inclusive classroom environment that promotes inquiry-based learning, collaboration, and respectful discussion of diverse viewpoints.
    • Work closely with colleagues, SEN staff, and school leadership to support students, develop interdisciplinary projects, and share best practices.
    • Communicate regularly with parents to provide updates on student progress, address concerns, and offer support for home learning.
    • Integrate technology and digital tools into teaching to enhance engagement, research, collaboration, presentations, and access to diverse global perspectives.
    • Engage in ongoing CPD to refine instructional strategies and remain current with developments in History and Global Perspectives education.
    • Actively contribute to whole-school initiatives, events, and culture, promoting values of inquiry, diversity, respect, and global citizenship.

    KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS

    • Deliver a minimum of 90% of planned lessons per term that are rated as engaging and well-structured based on student feedback and leadership observation.
    • Achieve at least 75% of students showing measurable progress in historical understanding, research, and critical thinking skills, with 10% exceeding expectations.
    • Contribute at least two curriculum enhancements or innovative teaching strategies per academic year that improve inquiry, research, and analytical skills.
    • Organise at least three History or Global Perspectives-related extracurricular activities per year (e.g., debates, exhibitions, Model UN, research showcases) with a minimum of 60% student participation.
    • Implement and utilise at least three digital tools or media-based strategies per term to enhance student engagement, collaboration, and research.
    • Maintain at least 90% positive parent engagement, ensuring structured communication each term (e.g., reports, newsletters, or meetings).

    QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE

    • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)/TRCN
    • Degree in History, International Relations, Political Science, Global Studies, or a related subject
    • Experience teaching History and/or Global Perspectives in a British school setting (desirable)
    • Strong subject knowledge and pedagogical skills
    • Excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills
    • Ability to inspire and motivate students of varying ages and abilities
    • Familiarity with the British curriculum and assessment frameworks (e.g., Cambridge Checkpoint, IGCSE, A-Level)
