    Head - Manufacturing Operations (Africa)

    Description
    What you become a part of:

    • The successful candidate will have strategic and tactical responsibility to contribute to and deploy SHL’s manufacturing strategy to meet expansion and operational excellence targets for SHL’s manufacturing value-chain in sub-Saharan Africa. 
    • The incumbent will be directly responsible to our Global Head – Manufacturing and Chief Technical Officer.

    What to Expect

    • Actively participate in discussions with senior management to advance manufacturing strategy, by providing inputs on current capacities, prior performance, current and foreseeable challenges etc.
    • Lead operational excellence at the site-level to meet On-Time-In-Full (OTIF) and quality targets in a cost-effective manner.
    • Drive capacity enhancement and manufacturing productivity through continuous improvement projects and batch size optimization.
    • Ensure network optimization and capacity balancing through timely execution of site transfer projects.
    • Lead the adoption of new technologies at the site to drive operations and cost optimization.
    • Proactively work with product line management, engineering, service and other departments to incorporate best practices into the manufacturing environment.
    • Ensure all-time audit readiness of site. Review site operations periodically with Unit Heads to ensure cGMP compliance and institutionalize corrective measures to overcome gaps in knowledge or operations.
    • Partner with internal global leaders at SHL and external key stakeholders, regarding technical support for activities, striving for best in class products and business practices to deliver to the customer’s expectations, managing teams and projects across the business.
    • Work collaboratively, negotiate and engage with key stakeholders to facilitate delivery and compliance with the manufacturing strategy.
    • Communicate to the stakeholders, the impact of technology change and potential effects on supply. Recommend solutions without compromising quality or service while optimizing cost.
    • Contribute to new business initiatives and projects and review and communicate the impact on manufacturing activities.
    • Report on manufacturing activities on a regular basis to the senior management team, ensuring accurate and timely reporting of the relevant Key Performance Indicators.
    • Drive Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) across all areas of the manufacturing function to ensure that all projects are delivered on cost and on time to the highest quality standards.
    • Ensure that Environmental, Health & Safety, manufacturing and quality standards and procedures are adhered to at the plant; any related issues are prioritized and facilitated in time.
    • Own the annual manufacturing budget and forecasts, oversee adherence to all CAPEX and OPEX proposals. Manage the budget and financial performance of the plants, ensure alignment to all Ethics, Risk & Compliance policies and manage key processes.
    • Manage all people-management related processes (manpower budget, recruitment, performance management, coaching). Identify and build key capabilities, talent pipeline and ensure proper development of assigned people, thus creating an environment conducive to high performance.
    • Own the succession planning program to augment/support a talent pipeline consistent with our 3-year business plan; and a rewards program aimed at boosting employee performance.

    Essential Skills, Experience & Education

    • Proven track record in strategic manufacturing leadership, delivering effective manufacturing strategies, policies, processes and systems.
    • Experience of handling multi lines with production technologies and quality and regulatory systems.
    • Knowledge and technical understanding of dosage forms manufacturing techniques.
    • Up-to-date knowledge of regulatory and cGMP/ cGLP guidelines, knowledge of EHS requirements.
    • Knowledge of safety and quality processes/ procedures.
    • Proven ability to successfully lead and manage international regulatory audits.
    • Proven project management & technical skills to be able to lead and direct project teams for Green field/ Brown field Projects.
    • Understanding of Financial Management- budgeting, financial modeling, cost control; work closely with Finance team.
    • Ability to drive OEE and productivity across manufacturing operations.
    • Strong ability to understand the changing dynamics, evolving trends of the pharmaceutical industry in the SSA business environment.
    • Strong personal credibility and interpersonal skills with the ability to build trusted relationships with senior business leaders and staff alike.
    • Excellent consulting and communication skills, with the ability to influence senior stakeholders.
    • Experience working cross-culturally with diverse colleagues.
    • Secondary/ tertiary qualifications in Pharmacy/ Engineering/ Production or any other relevant field.
    • Over 20 years’ experience within pharmaceuticals industry in a multi-country, matrix organization.
