    Good Governance and Human Rights Manager

    Community Health Justice and Peace Initiative (JDPH) is a programme of the Catholic Province of Jos with geographical location covering Plateau State in the North Central part of Nigeria and Bauchi, Gombe, Adamawa, Taraba, Borno and Yobe states in the North Eastern part of Nigeria.

    Brief Description

    A Human Rights Manager’s duties encompass a wide variety of tasks, such as researching and identifying human rights violations; observing trials and elections while in Good Governance he/she supports the executive team and board todesign, implement and support the highest quality governance. He will also Develop, Implement, Monitor and Evaluate assignedgovernance programmes/projects; review relevant documents and reports; identify problems and issues to be addressed and propose corrective actions; liaise with relevant stakeholders; identify and track follow-up actions.

    Roles and Responsibility

    • Liaise with other officers under the unit in planning programmes and activities
    • Create innovative programmes under your unit
    • Provide appropriate technical advice related to good governance policy development, including the review and analysis of issues and trends, preparation of evaluations or other research activities and studies.
    • Develop, Implement, Monitor and Evaluate assigned governance programmes/projects; review relevant documents and reports; identify problems and issues to be addressed and propose corrective actions; liaise with relevant stakeholders; identify and track follow-up action
    • Planning and coordinating activities related to relevant mandates on human rights
    • Researching and analysing human rights issues in the assigned area
    • Collecting and analysing human rights data
    • Making sure human rights considerations are integrated into humanitarian, political, and economic programs and systems
    • Representing the organisation at meetings related to Good Governance and Human Rights
    • Preparing reports and briefings

    Essential Skills:

    • Solid understanding of democratic development challenges from a high level, and experience in working with senior levels of national governance and with the senior civil service.
    • Excellent communication skills – spoken and written.
    • Team player, focused on mobilizing and leveraging capacities and interests towards project outcomes.
    • Demonstrated knowledge and providing effective support/reporting on the gender equality components of the project.
    • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
    • Computer skills (MS Excel, Word and Power Point).
    • Willing and able to travel to project locations.

    Educational Qualification / Experience

    • Essential: University Degree in political science, Law, International Relations or other relevant fields. Preferably, candidate should be a practicing lawyer with at least 3 years post call experience.

    Experience

    • At least 3 years of working experience in NGO work on the thematic area.
    • Experience in emergency program design and implementation will be an added advantage.
    • Experience of coordinating activities across various locations;
    • Demonstrable experience in designing and implementing gender disaggregated monitoring tools;
    • Proven experience in evidence based monitoring and report writing;
    • Strong experience with assessment tools and systems.

    LANGUAGE SKILLS: Fluency in written and spoken English and a good command of the Hausa language.
