    Gas Plant Technician

    Job Summary

    • The Gas Plant Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of gas systems within the hospital facility.
    • This position involves overseeing the maintenance, repair, and monitoring of various gas equipment and systems, including oxygen, nitrogen, and other medical gases vital for patient care and medical procedures.
    • The Gas Plant Technician must adhere to strict safety standards and regulations to ensure continuous and reliable gas supply throughout the hospital.
    • The Gas Plant Technician plays a critical role in supporting the hospital's mission to provide high-quality patient care by ensuring the availability and reliability of essential medical gases.
    • This position requires a combination of technical expertise, attention to detail, and commitment to safety and regulatory compliance.

    Responsibilities

    • Gas System Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance, inspections, and repairs on gas equipment, including compressors, storage tanks, pipelines, and distribution systems.
    • Quality Control: Monitor and maintain the quality and purity of medical gases according to regulatory standards and hospital protocols.
    • Emergency Response: Respond promptly to gas system emergencies, including leaks, pressure fluctuations, and equipment failures, to minimize disruptions and ensure the safety of patients and staff.
    • Record-Keeping: Maintain accurate records of gas usage, system inspections, maintenance activities, and equipment repairs for regulatory compliance and performance tracking.
    • Troubleshooting: Identify and troubleshoot operational issues with gas equipment and systems, implementing appropriate solutions to minimize downtime and ensure reliability.
    • Collaboration: Coordinate with other hospital departments, including maintenance, engineering, and medical staff, to address gas system requirements and support patient care activities.
    • Training: Provide training and support to hospital staff on safe handling and use of gas equipment, including emergency procedures and best practices.
    • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, codes, and standards governing the installation, operation, and maintenance of medical gas systems, such as NFPA, ASME, and FDA guidelines.
    • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvement, equipment upgrades, and efficiency enhancements within the gas plant operations to optimize performance and reduce costs.
    • Safety Protocols: Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures, including personal protective equipment (PPE) usage, lockout/tag out procedures, and hazard communication, to minimize risks and ensure a safe working environment.

    Qualifications

    • SSCE, OND, Degree or technical certification in a related field preferred.
    • Must have 2-3 years of experience in gas plant operations or a similar role, preferably in a hospital setting.
    • Strong understanding of medical gas systems, equipment, and safety standards.
    • Proficiency in troubleshooting mechanical and electrical systems.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams.
    • Attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records.
    • Flexibility to work rotating shifts, weekends, and be on-call for emergencies as needed.

    Physical Requirements:

    • Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment and supplies.
    • Capable of standing, stooping, bending, and working in confined spaces as required.
    • Must be able to wear appropriate PPE, including respirators, gloves, and safety goggles, as needed.
