Finance Officer - DIDRR Project, Kogi State at Sustainable Family Healthcare Foundation (SFHF)

Summary

• The Programme Finance Officer will support the financial planning, monitoring, and reporting of the DiDRR project in accordance with SFHF’s policies and donor regulations.
• The role requires attention to detail, timely financial documentation, and collaboration with the program, finance, and administrative teams to ensure the delivery of a high-quality, inclusive project.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Planning and Monitoring:

• Provide timely feedback on project budget implementation to senior management.
• Support regular financial monitoring of project activities, ensuring proper alignment with workplans and donor guidelines.Collaborate with the Project Manager and Donor Liaison to track budget forecasts and expenditure performance.

Review and Compliance:

• Review financial documentation, including procurement and payment checklists, for compliance and accuracy.
• Ensure that financial processes are consistent with donor standards and SFHF’s financial policies.

Reporting and Documentation:

• Prepare and submit accurate, timely financial reports including quarterly, year-end, and ad-hoc reports to management and donors.
• Document key findings in financial monitoring reports and track implementation of audit recommendations.
• Ensure timely and proper documentation of financial supporting documents, vouchers, and reconciliations.

Audits and Investigations:

• Support internal and external audits, including financial reviews and investigations.
• Recommend corrective actions to address system weaknesses or procedural gaps.

Capacity Building:

• Support orientation and training for project staff and implementing partners on financial procedures and compliance requirements.
• Follow up on action plans from financial trainings and monitor progress.

Partnership and Accountability:

• Foster transparent and accountable relationships with implementing partners through onboarding, consistent communication, and technical support.
• Work closely with SFHF’s Finance and Admin Manager to ensure program quality and alignment with donor accountability frameworks.

Other Duties:

• Comply with donor and organizational financial and operational standards.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the line manager in accordance with SFHF’s authority matrix.

• Understand and apply incident management protocols, including survivor-centered approaches.
• Maintain confidentiality and dignity when addressing safeguarding concerns.
• Know local support services and ensure appropriate referrals when safeguarding issues arise.

Person Specification

Qualifications:

• A degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.
• A recognized professional accounting qualification (e.g.,ICAN. ANAN) is desirable.

Experience:

• Minimum of 3 years' experience in a similar finance role, preferably in an NGO or international development setting.
• Experience managing institutional grants and budgets, particularly in humanitarian or disability-inclusive programs.
• Familiarity with financial management software (e.g., Peachtree, QuickBooks, Microsoft Dynamics).
• Proven experience working with local government, donors, and community-based implementing partners.
• Experience in donor compliance and project audit processes.

• Strong numerical and analytical skills with attention to detail.
• Effective communicator with ability to explain financial data to non-finance stakeholders.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and work in a fast-paced, multicultural environment.
• High integrity, professionalism, and teamwork skills.
• Fluency in English is required; knowledge of Hausa or other local languages is an added advantage.
