    Finance Officer

    Role Summary

    • The Finance Officer will be responsible for supporting the financial management, accounting, budgeting, reporting, and compliance functions of the organization.
    • The role will ensure accurate financial records, timely reporting, effective internal controls, and compliance with statutory and organizational requirements.
    • The Finance Officer will work closely with the Head of Support Services and support programs and management teams on transparent and accountable use of resources.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records in line with organizational policies and accepted accounting standards.
    • Prepare payment vouchers, journals, bank reconciliations, cashbooks, and other finance documentation.
    • Support preparation and monitoring of organizational, project, and donor budgets.
    • Review and process staff advances, retirements, vendor payments, and other financial transactions.
    • Ensure all payments are properly supported, authorized, coded, and filed.
    • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for management, donors, and regulatory authorities.
    • Monitor expenditure against approved budgets and provide timely variance analysis.
    • Support grant financial management, including donor reporting, compliance checks, and budget realignments.
    • Maintain effective internal controls and support implementation of finance policies and procedures.
    • Assist with statutory deductions, tax remittances, pension contributions, and other compliance obligations.
    • Coordinate with auditors during internal and external audits by providing required schedules and supporting documents.
    • Support procurement and logistics processes by ensuring financial complianceand value-for-money documentation.
    • Maintain proper filing systems for finance records, both physical andelectronic.
    • Provide financial guidance to program staff on budget utilization, documentation, and compliance requirements.
    • Perform any other finance-related duties assigned by the supervisor.

    Required Qualifications and Experience

    • Bachelor’s Degree or Higher National Diploma in Accounting, Finance,Economics, or a related field. Five years of progressively responsible finance or accounting experience.
    • Experience working with a national NGO, international NGO, donor-funded project, or development organization is highly desirable.
    • Good knowledge of accounting principles, budgeting, financial reporting, and internal control procedures.
    • Professional certification or progress toward certification such as ACA, ACCA, or equivalent is strongly desirable.
    • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel.

    Required Skills and Competencies:

    • Strong analytical, numerical, and problem-solving skills.
    • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in financial documentation.
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet reporting deadlines.
    • Strong understanding of financial accountability, transparency, and ethical conduct.
    • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work effectively with program and other support services teams.
    • High level of integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism.
    • Ability to work with minimal supervision while maintaining quality and compliance standards.
