    Driver

    Reports to:                              Logistics Assistant, Cross River State

    Location:                                 Okwangwo, Cross River

    Expected Start date:                August 20th, 2026

    Duration:               10 Months (Renewable depending on availability of funds)

    Major Activities/Expected Results

    • Provision of reliable and safe driving services by driving office vehicles for the transport of high-ranking officials and visitors and delivery and collection of mail, documents and other items, and meeting official personnel and visitors at the airport, including visa and customs formalities arrangements when required.
    • The office driver provides occasional driving services support to the WCS Nigeria operations and program. 
    • Keeps abreast and follows all traffic laws and regulations for road security and safety awareness to enable safe and on-time arrival for meetings.
    • Cost-savings through proper use of vehicle through accurate maintenance of daily vehicle logs,
    • Provision of inputs to preparation of the vehicle maintenance plans and reports. 
    • Proper day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle through timely minor repairs, arrangements for major repairs, timely changes of oil, check of tyres, brakes and water levels, car washing, etc., so that the vehicle is always kept clean and in good running condition. 
    • Proper use of vehicle maintenance plans and assistance in preparing vehicle history reports.
    • Ensures availability of all the required documents/supplies, including vehicle insurance, vehicle registration, vehicle logs, office directory, map of the city/country, first aid kit, and necessary spare parts in the assigned vehicle. 
    • Keeps track of insurance and other tax formalities. 
    • Ensures that the steps required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in an accident.
    • When necessary, translates into the local language for the official personnel using the car. 
    • Provide guidance and coaching to junior/new drivers when necessary. 
    • Assists office staff in events, logistical arrangements, filing, photocopying, and maintaining stores when required.
    • Performs any other assigned duties

    Work Relations:

    • Internal contacts with senior office staff and higher visiting officials to exchange basic information and sometimes provide straightforward translations.  
    • External contacts relating to arrangements for protocol purposes and exchanging basic information with national and international partners while carrying out the duties of the post. The incumbent may also be required to collaborate with other Agency Drivers for significant functions.

    Qualification

    • Valid driver's license: A valid Nigerian driver's license is a fundamental requirement for an office vehicle driver. The driver should have the appropriate license category that permits them to operate the type of vehicle assigned to them.
    • Driving experience: A minimum of 3 years of prior experience as a professional driver is usually preferred. The candidate should have a good driving record and a demonstrated history of safe and responsible driving.
    • Knowledge of traffic regulations: The driver should have a comprehensive understanding of traffic rules and regulations in Nigeria. This includes knowledge of road signs, speed limits, right-of-way rules, and other traffic laws.
    • Familiarity with local routes: A good knowledge of the local area and routes is important to efficiently navigate through traffic and reach destinations promptly. This includes being aware of alternate routes and knowing how to handle traffic congestion.
    • Defensive driving skills: The driver should possess defensive driving skills to ensure the safety of passengers, other road users, and the vehicle. This includes maintaining a safe following distance, being alert to potential hazards, and adhering to defensive driving techniques.
    • Vehicle maintenance knowledge: Basic knowledge of vehicle maintenance is valuable for an office vehicle driver. This includes performing routine checks, such as checking tire pressure, fluid levels, and ensuring the vehicle is in good working condition.
    • Professionalism and customer service: As an office vehicle driver, professionalism and good customer service skills are important. The driver should maintain a neat appearance, be courteous to passengers, and handle any requests or inquiries professionally.
    • Communication skills: Effective communication skills are necessary for the office vehicle driver. This includes being able to understand and follow instructions, communicate clearly with passengers, and report any issues or incidents promptly.
    • Reliability and punctuality: Office vehicle drivers are expected to be reliable and punctual. They should adhere to scheduled pick-up and drop-off times, be dependable in fulfilling their responsibilities, and maintain a good attendance record.
    • Safety-consciousness: A strong emphasis on safety is essential for an office vehicle driver. The driver should prioritise the safety of passengers and ensure compliance with safety regulations, such as using seat belts and securing any cargo properly.
