    Disability Inclusion Assistant

    Reports to: Livelihood Officer

    Job Summary:

    The Disability Inclusion Assistant will support the team and implementing partners to provide technical support to guide and inform gender disability-inclusive programming through an “integrated approach” in project implementation. Under the guidance of the FSL Manager, the Disability Inclusion Assistant will ensure that disability issues identified in the proposal are addressed, and that activities are responsive to the needs of girls, boys and pregnant and lactating women and children/women with disabilities.

    Key Responsibilities

    Programme Implementation, Coordination & Management:

    • Lead capacity building for staff and partner organizations members on gender and disability inclusion, including ensuring gender-responsive and inclusive trainings for service providers in the project states.
    • Guided by gender analysis, support partners and community groups to promote shared caregiving responsibilities and challenge traditional gender norms 
    • Coordinate FSL project activities between thematic areas and other implementing partners.
    • Conduct regular disability audits, support community mapping and address identified gaps in specific needs of girls, boys and pregnant and lactating women and children/women with disabilities. 
    • With support from the programme team, formulate key disability messages and targets from lessons learned and assessments gained through project implementation.
    • Contribute to the development and implementation of disability objectives and initiatives, both short and long term, encompassing a wide range of issues with a gender lens.
    • Acquire information and understanding of key disability issues in the country particularly in the project states focusing on boys and girls (e.g., SGBV, nutrition etc.) and adapt strategies as necessary.
    • Ensure a focus on gender equality, gender mainstreaming and disability inclusion in all components of project implementation.
    • Develop and facilitate gender and disability inclusion components in training materials, needs assessment and other project tools and resources.
    • Ensure accessibility of gender responsive IEC materials developed on the project.
    • Support CDHI and partners to identify and address the intersectionality of gender and disability in project planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation.
    • Perform other tasks, as required, to ensure the smooth running of the organization.

    MEAL

    • Support tracking of gender and disability-inclusive project indicators.
    • Support MEAL team in disability data collection, analysis, and reporting.
    • Ensure consultation with pregnant and lactating girls, beneficiaries with disabilities in project implementation, evaluation, and learning.
    • In collaboration with the MEAL team, collate and disseminate regular project disability inclusion reports.

    Human Resources Management and Development:

    • Working together with the Team to identify learning and development needs of the project teams and develop specific plans to address the learning needs.

    Internal and external engagements

    • Develop and maintain a network of external contacts with key individuals in the state, NGO sector, civil society and the media particularly working on gender issues and participate in gender working group meetings, which may include providing oversight.
    • Engage the relevant gender and disability stakeholders at State levels in support of the project cycle management.

    Qualifications and Experience

    • BSc/ HND or equivalent in Social Science, development studies, gender & development or equivalent combination of relevant training and experience. Advanced degree will be an added advantage
    • At least 2 years-experience implementing on issues of gender and inclusion, including nutrition, adolescent sexual reproductive health across either development, humanitarian or refugee setting.
    • Proven experience in supporting the designing, implementing, and evaluating disability-inclusive and gender-transformative social and behavior change communication interventions.
    • Experience in supporting the implementation of disability-inclusive and gender-transformative approaches in any context.
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting with minimal supervision.
    • Specific knowledge of international development, disability inclusion and gender equality issues; experience engaging children and other community members on gender equality issues desirable.
    • Demonstrable understanding of applying the principles of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in project cycle management.
    • Excellent planning and organizational skills with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced work environment

    Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse 

    • Actively promote PSEA (Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse) standards within Chabash Development and Health Initiative and amongst beneficiaries served by Chabash Development and Health Initiative.
    • Any other duties that may be assigned from time by supervisors.

    • Promotes and encourages a culture of compliance and ethics throughout Chabash Development and Health Initiative. As applicable to the position, maintains a clear understanding of Chabash Development and Health Initiatives’ and donor compliance and ethics standards and adheres to those standards.      Conducts work with the highest level of integrity.
