Cucumber Farm Manager at Niyi Prime Farms Ltd

Location: Owode, Obafemi-Owode LGA, Ogun State

We are seeking an experienced and results-driven Cucumber Farm Manager to oversee all cucumber production activities from nursery establishment to harvest and marketing. The ideal candidate must have proven experience managing commercial cucumber farms, supervising workers, implementing irrigation and fertigation programs, pest and disease management, and achieving high yields with minimal losses.

Key Responsibilities

Production Management

• Plan and supervise cucumber production activities from planting to harvest.
• Ensure proper land preparation, bed formation, mulching, and drip irrigation setup.
• Monitor plant population and maintain accurate field records.
• Ensure recommended spacing, pruning, training, and crop management practices are followed.
• Implement strategies to maximize yield and fruit quality.

Irrigation & Fertigation

• Manage daily irrigation schedules based on crop stage and weather conditions.
• Monitor drip irrigation systems and promptly report faults.
• Apply fertilizers according to agronomist recommendations.
• Maintain fertigation records and nutrient application schedules.

Pest & Disease Management

• Scout fields at least twice daily for pests, diseases, and nutrient deficiencies.
• Monitor sticky traps and field indicators.
• Report issues immediately to management and agronomist.
• Ensure safe and correct application of pesticides and fungicides.
• Maintain pesticide application records.

Harvest & Post-Harvest Management

• Schedule harvesting at the correct maturity stage.
• Supervise harvest teams to minimize fruit damage.
• Ensure proper grading, sorting, packaging, and storage.
• Maintain harvest records and daily yield reports.

Staff Supervision

• Manage farm workers and assign daily tasks.
• Monitor worker productivity and attendance.
• Train workers on cucumber production best practices.
• Ensure compliance with farm SOPs and safety procedures.

Record Keeping & Reporting

• Maintain records of:
  • Plant population
  • Fertilizer applications
  • Chemical applications
  • Irrigation schedules
  • Harvest quantities
  • Pest and disease observations
• Submit weekly and monthly performance reports to management.

Requirements

• Minimum of 3 years experience managing commercial cucumber production.
• Strong knowledge of:
  • Drip irrigation systems
  • Fertigation
  • Integrated Pest Management (IPM)
  • Greenhouse and open-field cucumber production
• Ability to identify major cucumber pests and diseases.
• Experience supervising farm workers.
• Ability to read and follow agronomic recommendations.
• Strong record-keeping skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• HND/B.Sc. in Agriculture, Agronomy, Crop Production, or related field.
• Experience managing 1 acre or more of commercial cucumber production.
• Knowledge of cucumber varieties such as Darina, Jorad, and other hybrid varieties.

• Survival rate after transplanting above 90%.
• Pest and disease losses below 5%.
• Accurate farm records submitted weekly.
• Efficient use of fertilizers and agrochemicals.
• Achievement of targeted yield and fruit quality standards.
• Timely harvesting and delivery to market.
