Objective of the Consultancy:
To simplify the National Disability Act (2018) into plain, easy-to-understand English, and translate the simplified version into three selected languages (Tiv, Idoma, and Pidgin English). These simplified versions will support awareness-raising, advocacy, and education efforts across Benue State.
Scope of Work:
The consultant will be responsible for:
- Simplifying the Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Act, 2018 into plain, user-friendly English, suitable for non-legal and non-technical audiences.
- Translating the simplified version into the following languages:
- Tiv
- Idoma
- Pidgin English
- Ensuring the translations are accurate, culturally sensitive, and reflect the intent of the law.
- Working with NWTF and relevant stakeholders to validate the translations.
- Delivering final versions that are ready for publication and distribution.
- Supporting the collection of stakeholder feedback on clarity and relevance during validation sessions.
Expected Deliverables:
- Simplified version of the National Disability Act in plain English.
- Translated versions of the simplified Act in Tiv, Idoma, and Pidgin English.
- Proofread, edited, and publication-ready materials in all languages.
- A brief final report highlighting feedback received during validation and how it was addressed.
Consultant Qualifications:
- Proven experience in legal writing simplification and translation.
- Fluency in English, Tiv, Idoma, and Pidgin English (or partnership with native speakers).
- Experience in working on disability rights, access to justice, or related fields is highly desirable.
- Excellent attention to detail and cultural sensitivity in translations.
Duration and Timeline:
The consultancy is expected to be completed within 6 weeks, including stakeholder validation sessions and submission of final deliverables.
