The Chief Risk Officer leads the comprehensive risk management framework across all operations of a digital-first microfinance bank, ensuring effective identification,assessment, monitoring, and mitigation of all risk categories including credit, operational, market, liquidity, and compliance risks.
The role is responsible for developing and implementing robust risk management policies, maintaining regulatory compliance, and providing strategic risk oversight to support sustainable growth while protecting the institution's assets and reputation.
Responsibilities
Develop and implement comprehensive enterprise risk management framework aligned with regulatory requirements and international best practices for the bank.
Build and lead the risk management teams to identify, assess, monitor, and mitigate credit, operational, market, liquidity, and reputational risks across all business segments.
Establish risk appetite statements, tolerance limits, and key risk indicators (KRIs) to ensure risks remain within acceptable boundaries while supporting business growth objectives.
Oversee credit risk assessment processes, loan portfolio quality monitoring, and non-performing loan management strategies to maintain portfolio health.
Monitor and manage operational risks including technology, fraud, business continuity, and third-party vendor risks in the digital banking environment.
Ensure strict adherence to Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) regulations, antimoney laundering (AML) requirements, and consumer protection guidelines.
Lead stress testing, scenario analysis, and capital adequacy assessments to evaluate institutional resilience under adverse conditions.
Provide regular risk reporting to the Board Risk Committee, Managing Director, and regulatory authorities on risk exposures and mitigation strategies.
Champion risk culture development across the organization through awareness programs, and risk governance frameworks.
Oversee business continuity planning, disaster recovery protocols, and cybersecurity risk management initiatives
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Banking, Operations Management, or related field; MBA or advanced professional certification (e.g., CFA, ACCA, PMP) is an added advantage.
Minimum of 10–12 years of progressive experience in banking operations, with at least 6 years in senior leadership roles overseeing multiple business functions.
Strong understanding of banking operations and regulatory environment.
Proven track record in operational excellence, process optimization, and large-scale organizational management.
Excellent leadership, strategic planning, and cross-functional collaboration capabilities.
Experience with digital banking platforms, technology integration, and operational transformation initiatives.
Deep knowledge of risk management, compliance frameworks, and banking regulation.
