    Chief Regulatory Economist & Compliance Officer

    Job Description

    • The Chief Regulatory Economist and Compliance Officer (CRECO) will lead the development, implementation and management of the company’s compliance and risk management framework, which will support the achievement of the Disco’s vision, goals and strategic objectives.
    • The role of the CRECO involves liaison with the Commission on all regulatory matters to ensure that obligations emanating from their regulatory oversight function are met when due.

    Key Responsibilities Under this Role:

    • Ensure compliance with Nigeria Electricity Supply Industry (NESI) Agreements and other statutory reporting obligations;
    • Represent the Company at NESI Performance Review meetings and assigned stakeholder engagements;
    • Support the Company Secretary in legal and litigation issues;
    • Ensure adherence to laid down policies and procedures on regulatory matters;
    • Review any new major contracts or internal business proposals;
    • Annually review, re-design and implement an overall risk management process for the company;
    • Identify and establish the context of various risks associated with the company’s business, deploy risk management process guidelines in managing identified risks, propose a risk mitigation plan and communicate to stakeholders involved; and
    • Develop an appropriate power procurement framework and manage power procurement activities.

    Required Experience and Education:

    • Bachelor's degree in any of the following subjects:
      • Economics,
      • Finance,
      • Law or
      • Similar Social Science subjects.
    • 15+ years of work experience with at least 6 years in a similar role in the electricity distribution business or other relevant institutions or companies in NESI.
    • Strong background in program and project management as well as turnaround and change management.
    • Fluency in English.

    Note that applicants who meet the following criteria will have an added advantage:

    • MSc or MBA from a reputable school;
    • Successfully led transformation efforts in a Nigerian electricity distribution company;
    • Extensive experience across the Nigerian power sector
    • Fluency in Hausa.

    Technical Competencies:

    • Possesses in-depth and up-to-date knowledge of power sector issues including legal, economic, and financial theories.
    • Able to provide technical analytic support and expert advice to the company on economic regulatory matters and their application/impact on its operations.
    • Adaptable and able to meet deadlines on assignments, juggle multiple demands, and work with all types of individuals.
    • Competent in corporate governance, stakeholder management and legal advisory.
    • Experienced in creating and assessing financial models for analysing large financial data and converting financial analysis to quantitative and qualitative information to aid the decision-making process.
