Introduction
Johnbally Humanitarian Society (JHS) is a locally rooted non-governmental organization headquartered in Maiduguri, Borno State — one of the regions most severely affected by protracted conflict, displacement, and humanitarian crisis in Northeast Nigeria. Officially registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) in September 2019, JHS was founded on the principles of justice, dignity, and inclusive development, and has consistently delivered life-changing interventions to vulnerable populations across hard-to-reach communities.
As the humanitarian landscape evolves, JHS is actively seeking committed donors and institutional partners who recognize the indispensable value of local engagement. We invite you to explore a strategic partnership that places your investment directly into the hands of frontline actors who understand the context, speak the language, and carry the trust of the communities we serve.
This document outlines our mandate, our proven areas of service, our geographic reach, and how you — as a donor — can make a transformative difference by partnering with JHS as your trusted local implementing organization.
Legal Status & Registration
Johnbally Humanitarian Society (JHS) is a registered, non-profit, non-governmental organization under the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The organization was officially incorporated with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) in September 2019. JHS operates in full compliance with Nigerian law and upholds the highest standards of organizational governance, financial accountability, and programme integrity.
Why Partner with a Local Organization?
International donors and development agencies increasingly recognize that sustainable impact is best achieved through Local, National, and International (LNI) partnerships. Local organizations like JHS offer distinct advantages that cannot be replicated by external actors alone:
JHS is not merely a service provider — we are a community-driven institution committed to leaving a lasting, dignified impact on the people of Borno State and Northeast Nigeria.
Our Areas of Service & Intervention
JHS delivers evidence-based, community-centred programming across nine interconnected thematic areas, with a core focus on protection, humanitarian response, and resilience-building. Each area represents both a chronic need in our operating context and a domain where JHS has demonstrated measurable, documented impact.
| Thematic Area | Description of Services & Interventions | |
| 01 | Child Protection | JHS provides comprehensive child protection services targeting children affected by conflict, displacement, and exploitation. Our interventions include case management for children at risk, psychosocial support (PSS), child-friendly spaces, community awareness on child rights, prevention of child recruitment, and referral to education, health, and legal services. |
| 02 | Gender-Based Violence (GBV) | JHS delivers survivor-centred GBV case management, clinical management of rape (CMR), safe space operations for women and girls, community engagement and awareness on SGBV prevention, dignity kit distribution, and structured referral pathways to medical, psychosocial, legal, and livelihood services. |
| 03 | Protection Monitoring | JHS conducts systematic protection monitoring to identify, document, and report protection concerns, human rights violations, and access constraints affecting displaced and conflict-affected populations. Our monitoring informs advocacy, programme design, and coordination with UN agencies and cluster partners. |
| 04 | Food Security & Livelihoods | We implement emergency food distribution, nutrition screening, agricultural support, and sustainable livelihoods programming targeting IDPs, returnees, and host communities to restore dignity and self-reliance. |
| 05 | Education in Emergencies | JHS supports access to quality, safe, and inclusive education through Temporary Learning Spaces (TLS), teacher training, school supplies distribution, girls’ education initiatives, and accelerated learning programmes for out-of-school children. |
| 06 | Health & Nutrition | Our health and nutrition interventions encompass mobile health clinic outreach, maternal and child health (MCH) support, community health worker capacity building, malnutrition screening and management (CMAM/IMAM), therapeutic feeding support, and health education campaigns targeting conflict-affected and displaced populations. |
| 07 | WASH (Water, Sanitation & Hygiene) | JHS rehabilitates boreholes and water points, constructs and repairs latrines, installs handwashing facilities, distributes hygiene kits, and conducts community-led hygiene promotion campaigns — reducing waterborne disease burden and restoring dignity in displacement and crisis settings. |
| 08 | Peacebuilding & Social Cohesion | Through interfaith dialogue, community reconciliation forums, trauma healing workshops, conflict mediation, and youth-led peacebuilding initiatives, JHS actively addresses the root causes of conflict and promotes durable peace, tolerance, and coexistence across communities in our areas of operation. |
| 09 | Emergency Preparedness & Response | JHS builds community and institutional resilience through early warning systems, contingency planning, rapid needs assessments, emergency stockpiling, and first-responder deployment. We ensure timely, coordinated, and dignified humanitarian response to sudden-onset disasters and conflict-related crises. |
Geographic Areas of Operation
JHS currently operates across three geopolitical zones of Nigeria, providing humanitarian programming and protection services to conflict-affected, displaced, and vulnerable populations:
| Region | States Covered |
| North West | Sokoto State, Katsina State & Zamfara State |
| North East | Adamawa State, Borno State & Yobe State |
| North Central | Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Niger State & Benue State |
How to Engage JHS as Your Local Partner
JHS is ready and equipped to serve as a primary implementing partner, sub-grantee, or technical collaborator for donors seeking credible, accountable, and high-impact local engagement. We welcome partnerships across the following modalities:
| Partnership Modality | What This Means for Donors |
| Direct Funding / Grant Award | Donors can award grants directly to JHS for defined thematic programmes. JHS manages full implementation, reporting, and accountability with agreed financial management standards. |

| Capacity Sharing Partnership | Donors seeking to build local NGO capacity can co-invest with JHS in organisational development, staff training, systems strengthening, and MEAL frameworks. |
| Rapid Response / Emergency Relief | For time-sensitive emergency response, JHS can be pre-positioned as a first-responder partner due to our presence, context expertise, and operational readiness. |
Our Commitment to Accountability & Transparency
JHS subscribes to the highest standards of programme accountability, financial management, and results-based reporting. Our commitments to every donor include:
