JOB SUMMARY
The Business Development Specialist is responsible for driving sustainable revenue growth by identifying and securing profitable business opportunities while providing commercial insights that improve hotel performance. The role requires a deep understanding of hotel operations, occupancy trends, reservations, market demand, seasonal business patterns, customer behaviour, and revenue opportunities.
The Business Development Specialist serves as the commercial intelligence arm of the hotel, analysing occupancy forecasts, reservation trends, market conditions, competitor activities, and guest demand to make informed business decisions that maximise room revenue, banquet sales, food and beverage income, and overall hotel profitability.
The ideal candidate must possess exceptional business acumen, strong analytical ability, and proven experience in luxury hospitality business development, with the ability to translate market intelligence into measurable business results.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
Commercial Business Development
- Develop and implement strategic business development initiatives that increase hotel revenue and profitability.
- Identify new corporate, government, diplomatic, leisure, airline, travel trade, and long-stay business opportunities.
- Build strategic partnerships that generate sustainable business throughout the year.
- Develop initiatives that improve room occupancy, average daily rate (ADR), revenue per available room (RevPAR), banquet sales, and food and beverage revenue.
- Continuously identify untapped market segments and develop strategies to penetrate them.
Occupancy & Revenue Analysis
- Monitor daily occupancy levels and reservation patterns to identify opportunities and potential business risks.
- Analyse booking pace, pick-up reports, cancellations, no-show trends, and future reservations to support proactive business decisions.
- Interpret occupancy forecasts and recommend sales initiatives during low-demand periods.
- Develop strategies to maximise occupancy during off-peak seasons while maintaining profitable room rates.
- Support pricing and promotional decisions based on market demand and business trends.
- Work closely with Reservations and Front Office to optimise inventory utilisation.
Reservations & Market Intelligence
- Develop a thorough understanding of reservation trends and booking channels.
- Monitor booking windows, lead times, source markets, and customer behaviour.
- Evaluate historical occupancy data to predict future business opportunities.
- Analyse seasonal demand, public holidays, major events, conferences, and travel trends that influence hotel occupancy.
- Recommend commercial actions based on market intelligence and reservation data.
Strategic Sales Development
- Secure corporate accommodation agreements, conference bookings, weddings, social events, diplomatic engagements, and premium hospitality services.
- Develop customised business proposals for prospective clients.
- Negotiate commercial agreements that maximise profitability while maintaining competitive positioning.
- Increase revenue from rooms, meetings, events, restaurants, lounges, and other hotel outlets.
- Maintain a healthy pipeline of qualified business opportunities.
Business Intelligence & Decision Support
- Provide management with commercial recommendations based on occupancy trends and market analysis.
- Evaluate competitor pricing, promotions, occupancy levels, and commercial strategies.
- Recommend tactical promotions during low occupancy periods.
- Identify opportunities to improve guest spend across multiple revenue streams.
- Prepare revenue forecasts using business intelligence and historical performance data.
Relationship Management
- Build and maintain relationships with key corporate organisations, multinational companies, government agencies, embassies, travel management companies, event planners, airlines, and tourism stakeholders.
- Conduct regular client visits and networking activities.
- Maintain excellent relationships with existing clients to improve repeat business.
- Develop customer loyalty initiatives for key accounts.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with Reservations, Front Office, Sales & Marketing, Revenue Management, Food & Beverage, Banquet Operations, and Finance.
- Participate in daily business review meetings.
- Ensure operational departments are adequately informed of upcoming business opportunities.
- Support management in making commercially sound operational decisions.
Reporting & Performance Analysis
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly business development reports.
- Present occupancy forecasts and commercial performance updates.
- Monitor sales performance against targets.
- Maintain accurate records using CRM and hotel management systems.
- Prepare business intelligence reports for executive management.

Experience / Qualification
- Bachelor\'s degree or HND in Marketing, Business Administration, Hospitality Management, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 3–5 years experience in Business Development, Sales, or Corporate Marketing.
- Previous experience working in a superior luxury hotel or premium hospitality establishment is mandatory.
- Proven track record of meeting or exceeding sales and revenue targets.
- Experience in corporate sales, hotel sales, or luxury hospitality business development is highly desirable.
- Membership of relevant professional bodies is an added advantage.
